Amul announces ₹2 Per Litre milk price hike effective May 1
Amul milk prices across all the variants offered by the brand will witness a ₹ 2 per litre hike effective from Thursday, May 1, reported the news agency PTI, citing an official announcement from the Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) on Wednesday, April 30.
The Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) owns Amul, one of the most popular dairy brands in India.
According to the agency report, the milk prices will witness a ₹ 2 per litre surge, which will mark a 3 to 4 per cent increase in the maximum retail price (MRP) of the product.
The report also highlighted that the hike is much lower than the average food inflation in the nation.
According to an earlier Mint report, India's food inflation for the month of March 2025 witnessed a 2.69 per cent year-on-year rise, down from the February 2025 levels of 3.75 per cent. In March 2024, the food inflation in India was at 8.52 per cent.
According to the price hike data, the 500 millilitres pouch of Amul Gold milk will now be available for ₹ 34, while the 'Shakti' variant of the milk was at ₹ 31, for the 500 ml packet in Gujarat, as per the press release.
Earlier on January 24, 2025, media reports highlighted that the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has reduced the Amul milk prices by ₹ 1 per litre across India.
'We have reduced the prices of one-litre packs by ₹ 1 per litre across India,' Jayen Mehta, the managing director of GCMMF, told the news agency PTI.
After this deduction in January 2025, the rate of Amul Gold milk in Delhi dropped to ₹ 67 from ₹ 68 per litre, while the price of Amul Taaza cost ₹ 55 from ₹ 56 per litre.
GCMMF's turnover increased 8 per cent to ₹ 59,445 crore in the financial year ended 2023-24.

Follow for latest gold price Analysts said the sharp increase in gold prices in India was primarily driven by a weaker rupee and heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which spurred safe-haven demand for the precious metal. In terms of the Rupee value, on Friday, rupee declined 56 paise to 86.08 against the US dollar in the initial trade due to a spike in global oil prices and a firm dollar amid rising tensions in the Middle East. On the global front, gold futures rose USD 41.62 per ounce, or 1.22 per cent, to trade at USD 3,444.02 per ounce. Vice-President of Commodities at Mehta Equities, Rahul Kalantri, said that "Gold prices rallied sharply amid escalating Israel-Iran tensions, boosting safe-haven demand. In the morning session, the precious metal breached the USD 3,420 per ounce-mark and hit 6-week highs." (With PTI Inputs)
