A source told Hindustan Times, 'Yami and Emraan are leading this impactful courtroom drama and have finished the shooting schedule. A lot of research has gone into the script to ensure authenticity and the film boasts of several long and intense courtroom scenes. Yami plays Shah Bano, while Emraan's character draws from Ahmed Khan.'
What was the Shah Bano case?
In 1978, 62-year-old Shah Bano, a mother of five, approached the Supreme Court under Section 125 CrPC, seeking maintenance after being divorced via triple talaq by her lawyer husband, Mohd. Ahmad Khan, who cited Muslim Personal Law to deny support beyond the three-months for her and their children.
After a 7-year legal battle, the Court ruled in her favour in 1985, stating that Section 125 applied to all citizens, ensuring a divorced woman's right to maintenance regardless of religion — a landmark verdict in the fight for gender justice and constitutional equality.
The ruling sparked backlash from conservative groups, leading the Rajiv Gandhi government to pass the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986, diluting the verdict. The episode reignited debates on vote-bank politics, UCC, and secularism — themes that remain relevant even today.
Shah Bano's voice was once heard in the hallowed halls.

Gauri Khan rents Rs 1.35 lakh per month flat for Mannat staff, 100 metres away from family's new Pali Hill home
As renovations are underway at his monumental residence, Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan and his family, including wife Gauri Khan and their children Aryan, Suhana and AbRam, are currently living in a temporary home in the Pali Hill area of Mumbai. They moved to their interim home in April this year, and it is learnt that the family will stay there for over two years as their iconic bungalow at Bandstand is undergoing extensive renovations. Now, a new report has emerged stating that Gauri Khan has rented a flat just 100 metres away from their own home in the Puja Casa building, Pali Hill, exclusively for her staff. The 725 sq ft residential unit is located in Pankaj Society, Pali Hill. According to Zapkey, the flat has been rented from one Sanjay Kishor Ramani at Rs 1.35 lakh per month. The lease has been signed for a period of three years. In addition to a security deposit of Rs 4.05 lakh, the agreement also stipulates a five per cent annual rent escalation. According to an earlier report, Shah Rukh Khan had leased two duplex apartments in Puja Casa for a staggering Rs 2.9 crore per year, with the monthly rent amounting to Rs 24 lakh for the four floors. Although the combined carpet area of the duplex apartments was reportedly about 10,500 sq ft, it is less than half the size of Mannat, which spans approximately 27,000 sq ft. The Puja Casa building is owned by Jackky Bhagnani, his sister Deepshikha Deshmukh and their father, producer Vashu Bhagnani, Hindustan Times reported. A Grade 2-B heritage structure, Mannat is currently undergoing renovations to add two more floors, thereby increasing the built-up area by 616.02 sq m. Shah Rukh Khan purchased the property in 2001 but was not allowed to make structural alterations due to its heritage status. Grade 2 structures include buildings and precincts of local and regional importance possessing special architectural and cultural merit. As a result, he constructed a six-storey annexe behind the original villa, which he named Mannat.
