TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Rose-Hulman University's Performing Arts Series will feature a spectacular Cirque Kalabante performance this weekend.
This is one of eight shows in the Performing Arts Series featured at the university's Hatfield Hall Theater this school year.
'Kalabante Production's colorful show by Yamoussa Bangoura is inspired by daily life in Guinea and represents the strength, agility, and life's joys of young Africans. It goes beyond the country's scenery, costumes, and staging as acrobats execute gravity-defying moves and human pyramids,' Rose-Hulman University said in a press release.
The university says that tickets will range from $55 for the Gold Circle seating, $35 for Standard seating and $30 for Value seating.
The show will be on Sunday, February 2, at 7:30 p.m.
To learn more about the Performing Arts Program and to purchase tickets online you can go to the Hatfield Hall Theater's website.
Tickets can also be purchased by calling the ticket office at 812-877-8544, or by visiting the Hatfield Hall ticket desk through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Brooklyn Center to Host First-Ever Liberian Independence Day Parade in Minnesota

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn., June 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The We Are Liberian organization, in partnership with the City of Brooklyn Center, proudly announces the first-ever Liberian Independence Day Parade in Minnesota, set for Saturday, July 26, 2025. This historic event marks 35 years since Liberians first began arriving in the state following the civil war. Minnesota is home to one of the largest Liberian populations in the United States. This long-anticipated parade will celebrate the cultural pride, contributions, and resilience of Liberians, Africans in the diaspora, Caribbeans, and other ethnic groups that call Minnesota home. The parade will begin at 11:00 AM on Shingle Creek Parkway, leading into a full day of festivities at Centennial Park in Brooklyn Center. Attendees can expect: Cultural dancers and traditional attire Community organizations and local leaders Live performances and artists Over 70 vendors, food trucks, and family entertainment "For a long time, I didn't see myself represented," says Marie Dweh, founder of We Are Liberian, who grew up in Brooklyn Center. "I felt too American at home, and too Liberian at school. But over time, I watched more and more Liberians walk into my classrooms. Today, that same generation is becoming the teachers, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and politicians shaping our future. This parade is a tribute to that journey." The event is expected to draw thousands from across the Midwest, marking a milestone not only for Brooklyn Center, but for Minnesota — now a cultural hub for the Liberian and greater African diaspora communities. ‘I feel real good': Hundreds of people came together for the Prom For All Ages

From the red carpet to the photo booth, followed by a fancy dinner and some dancing, hundreds of people came together for the Prom For All Ages inside Polar Park in Worcester on Thursday. 'I'm ready to have the best time of my life this year,' said Matthew McCarthy, who attended the prom. 'This is the third time I'm coming to the prom,' said Paula. This is the fourth annual prom put together by the non-profit Thrive Support & Advocacy, which supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Central Massachusetts. 'This group of individuals thrive on socialization and connection and having fun and being carefree, COVID after we did the first year, having them come out of that into this was truly amazing,' said Sean Rose, President and CEO of Thrive. Rose says a lot of people here may have missed out on the experience of going to prom when they were younger. 'A rite of passage maybe for you and I, you know, growing up as young people is a prom hasn't always been a great experience for them in their lifetimes and them growing up, many of which didn't go at all or didn't have a good experience or would never go again,' said Rose. But that all changed with this event, with many planning their outfits for weeks. For some, this is their favorite night of the year. 'I feel real good, you know I went here last year and it was a good experience of my life,' said McCarthy. 'I have fun with my friends, I have fun with my boyfriend,' said Paula. Rose says it's all about creating carefree, memorable experiences they'll never forget. 'Even though the prom is happening in one night, the residual effects of that excitement, that enthusiasm, ring throughout all 365 days before we do the next prom,' said Rose. Rose says they're thankful for all the sponsors who help not only to put this event together, but they also raise money for all the programs that support Thrive throughout the year, serving more than 1,500 adults with IDD in Central Massachusetts and MetroWest.
