Stokes reflects on Lady Bear career

Yahoo25-03-2025

Hello everyone, I'm Dan Lucy on your Ozarks First digital desk.
It's always emotionally draining at this time of year for basketball players.
Whether you're in high school or any level of college.
When it's playoffs or tournament time, any game could be your last.
And that was the case for the Missouri State Lady Bears Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Bears lost to Minnesota 78-71 in a game that saw Missouri State battle from behind all day.
The Lady Bears got within three at one point, but could not win.
It was the last game for fifth year senior Paige Rocca, two senior transfers, Kylie Bess and Sarah Linthacum.
And guard Lacy Stokes.
Stokes is a Mt. Vernon native who grew up loving the Lady Bears.
At 5-foot-four, she elected to go to Missouri Southern out of high school.
After two years of success, including All-American status, she transferred to the Lady Bears.
It was a dream come true.
Stokes played for two years earned Newcomer of the Year after her junior season.
And after her senior season was the Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Valley.
The 5-foot-4 dynamo was the heart and soul of the Lady Bears.
She scored 852 points, collected 168 steals and had 286 assists.
After the game Stokes talked about her career and love for the Lady Bears and Missouri State.
Lacy Stokes: (on season)
One of the great things about the Lady Bears team is its chemistry, especially this season when a couple senior transfers arrived in Kiley Bess and Sarah Linthacum.
The seniors all jelled, and Stokes had this story about her relationship with veteran Paige Rocca.
Stokes: (on Rocca)
So the four seniors move on, and who knows what the roster is going to look like as the transfer portal opens up.
Players staying put seems to be a rarity these days.
But youngsters like Kyrah Daniels, Kaemyn Bekemeir and Lainie Douglas got loads of playing time.
This is what Stokes had to say about the future of this Lady Bears team.
Stokes: (on future)
Missouri State won 26 games this season, and a whole new world is opening up next year in Conference USA.
But we'll certainly miss the toughness, grit and heart that Lacy Stokes put on display for two years.
Lady Bears fans thank her and Lady Bears fans will miss her.

I'll see you then.

Myles Garrett on Aaron Rodgers joining Steelers, 'Opportunity to put him in the graveyard'

Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns are scheduled to face Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers twice during the 2025 NFL season. Garrett will have one goal in mind when the AFC North rivals square off. Advertisement "I think it's a good opportunity to put him in the graveyard," Garrett told reporters when asked about Rodgers signing with the Steelers. Garrett's comment was a reference to an annual Halloween tradition for which he has become known. It began when the star edge rusher transformed his front yard into a graveyard featuring the names of notable quarterbacks he had sacked during his career on its tombstones. Now, Garrett comes up with similar displays each year, poking fun at opposing quarterbacks. That included a "Terminator"-inspired setup last season featuring jerseys of Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and even Rodgers. While Rodgers was included in Garrett's 2024 lawn display, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year has never actually sacked the 41-year-old veteran. The two have only gone head-to-head once during Garrett's eight-year career: a Christmas matchup during the 2021 NFL season. Rodgers completed 24 of 34 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns in the contest while Cleveland failed to register a sack in a 24-22 Green Bay victory. Advertisement Garrett's next chance to add Rodgers to his career sack ledger will come in Week 6 when Cleveland travels to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. The 29-year-old has 102.5 career sacks across 117 games. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Myles Garrett hoping to sack Aaron Rodgers, 'put him in the graveyard'

Myles Garrett hints Steelers' Aaron Rodgers is next for his QB graveyard

Myles Garrett hints Steelers' Aaron Rodgers is next for his QB graveyard The AFC North is as dangerous as advertised — and new Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is finding that out the hard way, courtesy of Browns star Myles Garrett. Rodgers set the NFL world ablaze when he made his decision to sign with Pittsburgh, and Garrett is looking forward to their eventual meeting — for all the sack-related reasons. At mandatory minicamp, the Browns' 2023 Defensive Player of the Year made his intentions for Rodgers crystal clear: 'I think it's a good opportunity to put [Rodgers] in the graveyard.' Garrett is referencing his infamous quarterback graveyard, a Halloween tradition for the Browns defender, featuring tombstones of every signal-caller he's sacked throughout his career — including legendary Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. His chilling warning to Rodgers should serve as motivation for the Steelers' offensive line to keep their quarterback protected — and they'll get their first chance to stop Garrett when the Browns visit Pittsburgh in Week 6 on October 12.
