Man remanded for allegedly raping ex-wife in Matang
KUCHING (Aug 5): A 23-year-old man who allegedly raped his ex-wife during an incident in Matang has been remanded.
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that the Magistrates' Court here the suspect has been remanded to assist with the investigation.
'The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting today, ' he said when contacted by The Borneo Post.
Mohd Irwan said the suspect allegedly raped his 18-year-old ex-wife on Friday (Aug 1) at around 8am at a housing area in Matang here.
Police arrested the suspect on Sunday.

'Papa told us never miss our prayers,' says son of fallen policeman
SETIU: The body of Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, who was killed after being rammed by a vehicle driven by criminals fleeing a house burglary in Kedah, was laid to rest this morning. The father of three was buried at the Putera Jaya Islamic Cemetery in Pak Kancil, near here, at 10.30am. A funeral prayer for the late policeman was held earlier at Masjid Putera Jaya at 9.17am. The burial was conducted with full police honours, with Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin presenting the Sang Saka Biru police flag to Hafizul's father, Mazlan Umar, 64. More than 300 people, including family and friends, attended to pay their last respects. The officer leaves behind his wife, Nur Azhanis Mohd Yusoff, 36, and three sons: Muhammad Akif Naufal, 11, Muhammad Amar Nazran, 9, and Muhammad Afiq Nazim, 4. His eldest son, Akif Naufal, said his father often reminded him to perform his prayers. "Papa managed to pick me up from school and send me home at 1.15pm yesterday. After that, my brother Muhammad Amar Nazran and I went to Aman Central shopping mall with a friend's mum," he said. He said that while at the mall, a police officer came to collect him and his brother and took them to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar. "At the time, I thought it was one of Papa's friends who had passed away, because we were told that Papa had asked someone to fetch us from Aman Central. "But when we got to the hospital and I saw Mama (Nur Azhanis) crying, that's when I realised Papa had died," he said. Earlier, it was reported that a policeman was killed after being rammed by fleeing criminals at Taman Golf, in Alor Star, yesterday. Four burglary suspects have been arrested. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 457 of the same Act for housebreaking.
