Montreal police investigate after Jewish man with young children attacked, beaten
Police spokesperson Const. Caroline Chèvrefils said officers responded to a 911 call about an altercation at the corner of l'Épée and Beaumont avenues at 2:45 p.m. ET.
Chèvrefils confirmed that a video, which is circulating online, shows part of the attack. The 28-second video does not show what led up to it, but begins with the assailant straddling and striking the victim, who is on the ground, several times.
The victim, who appears to be dressed in traditional Jewish attire, gets up on his knees and one of at least two children clings to him. The attacker picks up some belongings in a grocery bag, and then tosses what appears to be a kippah, a head covering worn by Jewish men and boys, into a wet, splash pad area.
Police say the victim was struck several times and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The assailant then fled before officers arrived and has not been arrested.
The reason for the assault is not yet known, Chèvrefils said.
Jeremy Levi, the mayor of Hampstead, a municipality within Montreal, posted the video on X that afternoon, calling it "beyond deplorable" and "outrage against basic human decency."
"In the heart of Montreal, a Jewish father is savagely beaten in front of his children," Levi said.
"We will defend our people — every time, without apology," he said.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) also posted the video on Facebook, saying "authorities must hold the attacker accountable, and leaders at all levels of government must confront this dangerous escalation."

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – We are learning more about the deadly shooting on the University of New Mexico's campus that left a 14-year-old dead and a 19-year-old injured. Police have not yet disclosed why the 14-year-old, identified in a criminal complaint as Michael Lamotte, was on campus, but court documents reveal insights from someone present when the shot rang out. He then reported that Fuentes pointed the gun at him and then shot the 19-year-old. The male and the other victim managed to escape through a window and later went to the University of New Mexico Hospital. Around 2:30 a.m., UNM Hospital reported the arrival of a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound, who stated that he had been shot on campus. This led to a manhunt that lasted throughout Friday. Fuentes was arrested Friday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. in Los Lunas. State police credit the use of license plate reader technology for assisting with tracking Fuentes's movements and his eventual arrest in Valencia County. According to the criminal complaint, Fuentes fled the scene of the shooting, smashing windows at the Mesa Vista building before escaping to Los Lunas. The complaint also noted that blood stains, a pair of jeans, and a stolen handgun were found on the roof of the Mesa Vista building. It was stated that Fuentes was picked up by two people before heading back to Los Lunas. Police arrest man accused of fatal stabbing at a Gallup dollar store
GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – A Gallup man is behind bars, accused of stabbing and killing another man. According to Gallup Police, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at the Family Dollar store on Highway 491 Monday. Bernalillo County plans to revitalize over 500 acres of untouched land by East Mountains Witnesses told police the suspect, identified as 62-year-old Eddie Slim, was chasing another man with a knife. When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim and Slim lying on the ground inside the store. Police say Slim was in possession of a folding knife.
