INDIANAPOLIS — The Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 was more than a race; it was a chance for one of the six Wienermobiles to earn the title of "Top Dog."
Three rows of two Wienermobiles lined up at the iconic "Yard of Bricks" at the most famous racecourse in the world, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, during Friday's Carb Day for the 109th Indianapolis 500.
The New York Dog team was co-driven by Sarah Kraut on the outside of the front row. Chi Dog started on the pole.
"We were born ready for this day," said "Corndog Kate," who was one of the two "hot-doggers" driving the Chi Dog Wienermobile.
Slaw Dog started on the inside of Row 2 alongside Sonoran Dog on the outside. Row 3 included Chili Dog on the outside with Seattle Dog on the inside of the third row.
Each of these teams were hoping to win the "Borg-Weiner Trophy."

The race began with the traditional singing of the Oscar Mayer song, "I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Weiner," sung by "Lucky Dog."
Each Wienermobile was equipped with a six-speed transmission, making shifting important around the flat, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
Granny Smith gave the command, "Wienies, start your engines." A few moments later, the green flag waved, but the pole-winning Wienermobile had a dog of a start. That allowed New York Dog to get a great jump at the lead and the Wieners rolled into Turn 1.
New York Dog held the edge before Chicago Dog got a great run out of Turn 2. It was able to "ketchup" to the lead and take over the top dog position.
It was, frankly, a great move.
New York Dog and Seattle Dog tried to "ketchup" at the Yard of Bricks to complete the first lap and begin the final lap of this bun-to-bun contest.
Slaw Dog overcooked its engine as smoke began to come out of the grill. It dropped to the rear of the field as this cooker was out of gas.
Chi Dog continued to have the lead coming out of Turn 4 before Slaw Dog made a tremendous run down the backstretch to win by a "Wienie" at the start finish line to go down in Indy history as the "Top Dog."
Just like one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball, the Chicago White Sox, Chi Dog couldn't hold onto a lead.
Victory slipped through the buns for Chi Dog as Slaw Dog had the right topping in a battle as hot as a charcoal grill.
"People remember where they were when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon," former IndyCar Series driver and FOX Sports analyst James Hinchcliffe said. "Today, people are going to remember who won the inaugural Wienie 500.
Slaw Dog took a victory lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, cheered by fans in mustard-stained shirts.
Afterwards, the winning team was awarded with the "Borg-Wiener Trophy" and presented with a "Wienie Wreath."
This was truly a moment to relish.

12 Funny, Cute, Prizewinning Dog Photos To Celebrate Dogs Day

As August is known as 'Dog Month' – or 'Dogust' as it's frequently nicknamed and marked since 2020 by dog lovers – and as International Dog Day falls on August 26, consider these 12 great dog photos to celebrate the loyalty, companionship and positive impact canines exercise on our lives. Dogs are the most commonly owned pets on the planet and top among the Internet's favorite animals, although debate rages endlessly in social media over which are more popular: canines or felines. Data, though, seems to confirm the immense popularity of dogs. According to the World Population Review, which ranks dog population by country based on dog ownership from 2018 to 2024, the global canine population lands somewhere between 700 million and one billion. Forbes Advisor has assembled these related statistics for the U.S.: The recognition of the role dogs play in human's lives via a month and specific day in their honor was created to raise awareness of their condition and to encourage adoption. For this month's 20th anniversary of Dog Day, suggestions on how to celebrate including taking your dog for a walk, adopting a dog or donating blankets, food or funds to a local rescue center. In honor of the dogs of our planet, I offer this selection of funny, touching and adorable images by prizewinning pet photographer Belinda Richards who, through different photographic projects from her Frog Dog Studios in Melbourne, Australia, has redefined pet portraiture with a blend of humor, empathy and artistry. Winner of many prestigious photo competitions, including Siena's Creative Photo Of The Year and Nikon NZIPP International Photographer of the Year, Richards has been named the Australian Pet Photographer of the Year in every year since 2022. 'Through my art," she says, "I aim to delight and emote, inviting viewers to see the humor and joy that permeates the world of these animals and share the enchantment of our furry friends.' The dog photos in this article are a selection from several of Richards' projects, including Dogs Are The Best People (illustrating that like people, dogs have uniquely individual personalities), Be More Dog, Who Cut The Cheese? and The Grow Series. Be More Dog Photos The two photos above appear in the prizewinning, ongoing series Be More Dog, a humorous exploration and commentary on current events and social practices, using dogs as stand-ins for people 'Some images are comments on contemporary issues such as feminism, patriarchy and world politics, while others take a lighter look at social hierarchy and current trends,' explains dog-loving Richards. Dogs Are The Best People In the Dogs Are The Best People photo series, Richards and husband Tony Ladson show just how human-like dogs can be. Individual dogs have unique facial expressions, just like people. Their reactions to noises or words are unique to each one. Despite their inability to interact with language, dogs can often seem as though they're communicating by mimicking human facial expressions. The Grow Series, Dog Photos Who Cut The Cheese? 'Our pets are inherently funny creatures, so one of the traits I concentrate on is capturing humorous moments,' Richards explains 'The series Who Cut The Cheese?' was inspired by my love for capturing the unique personalities of my canine clients and my desire to bring humor to the viewer. I hope you will experience a sense of amusement as each dog's look of disgust is revealed.' Pets are constantly doing something that's photo-worthy, even when they're being naughty. Professional photographers can raise pet photography to an art form. See all the series of dog photos and information on Belinda Richards' workshops on pet photography here. MORE FROM FORBES

From the Archives: Jeffrey Steingarten on Gourmet Doggy Dining

'Give a Dog a Bone,' by Jeffrey Steingarten, was originally published in the December 1998 issue of Vogue. For more of the best from Vogue's archive, sign up for our Nostalgia newsletter here. "A fat bitch," I announced, licking the juice of a wood-grilled lamb sausage from my fingers, "is never an easy whelper." I was reading from the breeding section of a book called The Golden Retriever: 47Exciting Full-Color Photos. Sky King listened intently but said nothing, and not simply because he had not yet learned to talk. I have found that young males of all species have a limited attention span when it comes to discussions of whelping and obesity. But, as always, Sky King's gaze was eloquent—as it had been earlier that evening when I dumped a plastic cupful of upscale dry dog-food pellets into his bowl and turned away to take care of my own dinner, a half-dozen fat little sausages crackling over a smoldering fire of oak and mesquite on the grill just outside the kitchen door. "I know that you are a fair-minded human," he seemed to be saying, "and that you have only my best interests at heart. But are you absolutely sure that I should be eating this pile of dead and desiccated pellets while you experience the feral delights of sizzling flesh? Who's the carnivore here anyway?" I glanced back at Sky as if to say, "Cats are carnivores, dogs are not." But I had gotten his message. Dogs did not evolve eating dry dog food, and they do not prefer it now. Sky likes a good tomato, a hunk of raw steak, a hunk of grilled steak, pitted cherries, peaches, pizza, overcooked lamb sausages, running shoes, and Fudgsicles. He is neutral on the subject of heavily salted corn chips and has little use for Good & Plentys. Sky loves to eat in bed. Once our respective dinners were through, Sky and I watched the sun setting over San Diego, where he lives and to which I was paying one of my frequent visits. We went back inside and together began to formulate a plan for answering the critical question: What on earth is a growing dog supposed to eat? We ordered a dozen books over the Internet, settled into a comfortable chair, and began reading the relevant sections of The Golden Retriever: 47 Exciting Full-Color Photos, the only research resource immediately at hand. Apart from the caution concerning obese females, its culinary advice was sketchy: Dry dog food is the easiest, served four times a day and moistened with hot water for the youngest puppies, less of- ten and with less water as the puppy matures, and dry as a bone for adults. (The reasons: nutritional balance, total convenience, and minuscule stools.) This was the advice we had followed thus far with Sky King, whom my wife had named after a popular serial hero of radio and black-and-white TV in the forties and fifties, a fictional and fearless rancher-pilot who performed daring rescue and law-enforcement missions in his small private propeller plane. "Out of the clear blue of the Western sky comes Skyyyy Kiiiing!" each episode began. Sky's name is not yet among the top ten for North American dogs, which are currently Sam, Max, Lady, Bear, Mag- gie, Buddy, Tasha, Chelsea, Holly, and Shasta. Tasha?

Naughty Goldendoodle Sneaks Into the Bath for Playtime & It's Too Cute

Naughty Goldendoodle Sneaks Into the Bath for Playtime & It's Too Cute originally appeared on PetHelpful. No one said raising a puppy was easy! And a new video online is proof of that fact. Kate probably expected a little mischief when she got a Goldendoodle puppy. But alas, her new dog is definitely a 'menace to society' and now she has people cracking up online. There are things about puppyhood that they don't warn you about. And this was one of them! All Kate wanted to do was clean up after her kids took a bath, but boy did she get a surprise instead. You could tell the dog was up to no good even before the woman turned into the bathroom. 'This dog is an absolute menace to society,' the woman said in the footage. Poor Kate hadn't drained her kids' bathtub yet and the Goldendoodle took advantage of it. She'd made her own personal splash pad in the bathroom! Which was fun for her but was probably not exactly thrilling for Kate.'What are you doing?' the woman asked from behind the camera. 'Oh, just playing around in the tub. Do you want to join?' we can imagine the pup saying. 'Are you living your best life?' the woman teased. Yep, you could certainly say that for sure. 'Oh Stormi Jean, you're such a goober,' she kidded. The comments section absolutely loved Kate's little troublemaker Goldendoodle. What a little sneak! 'Once she realized she wasn't in trouble she went for it!' joked one person. 'I love that you're letting it enjoy the moment,' someone else praised. 'God forbid a girl wants to practice her spelling whilst getting clean,' joked a third person. 'Where did you get a self washing dog? They got that on Amazon?' kidded another commenter. Do Dogs Like Baths? You may have noticed that some dogs love their tub time (or maybe they just like making a mess!), but some dogs really don't like taking baths. Even dogs that like other bodies of water might not love baths. It really depends on the dog and the breed. Some dogs might even get totally spooked from the bath! So be gentle with your dog and take your time. Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos.
