"PM Modi's target of net zero by 2070 needs to achieved by collective efforts of all": CM Yogi Adityanath
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 22 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated the National Seminar-2025 on 'Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development'.
The CM stated that the task of achieving the country's goal of net zero by 2070 could not just be fulfilled at the government level but required the collective efforts of everyone.
'Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the world that India will achieve the target of net zero by 2070. But the task of achieving this target is not just at the government level but through the collective efforts of all of us... Today, a national seminar has also been organised here regarding this program, after which the vision is how we can create harmony with nature and ensure sustainable development...' Yogi said addressing the people.
Meanwhile, earlier today, the CM directed officials of concerned districts to carry out relief work with full promptness in view of storms, rain, and hailstorms, as per a release.
The CM has stated that officials should visit the affected areas, conduct surveys, and closely monitor the relief efforts.
In cases of loss of human or animal life due to lightning, storms, or rain-related disasters, immediate distribution of relief funds should be ensured to the affected families. Proper medical treatment should be provided to the injured.
Instructions have also been sent to officials to assess crop damage through surveys and send reports to the government so that further action can be taken. He further directed that in case of waterlogging, proper arrangements for drainage should be made on a priority basis.
Earlier on May 21, Yogi Adityanath reviewed the current status of COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh in light of the emerging global and national concerns surrounding the latest JN.1 subvariant.
The Chief Minister reassured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern in the state; however, he emphasised that, given the global context, vigilance and precaution remain essential.
According to the official release, Chief Minister Adityanath noted that the Central government has issued no new advisory regarding COVID-19. Still, considering the rising number of JN.1 cases in Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, he stressed the need for continued surveillance in Uttar Pradesh. He instructed all medical colleges, district hospitals, and health units across the state to remain on high alert and be fully prepared to handle any potential emergency. (ANI)

PM Modi announces additional aid for families hit by cross-border shelling
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced additional financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for families whose houses were severely damaged due to cross-border shelling from Pakistan. Addressing a public gathering here, the Prime Minister stated that households suffering severe damage due to cross-border firing will now receive Rs 2 lakh, while those with partially damaged homes will be granted Rs 1 lakh. This assistance is in addition to the support already provided earlier by the government, an official statement said. He emphasised the government's commitment to the well-being of those affected, noting that families who lost loved ones in the shelling have already received appointment letters for government aid. Recognising the hardship faced by over 2,000 families impacted by the shelling, PM Modi reaffirmed the government's solidarity with the victims, saying, 'Their pain is the nation's pain.' Stating that the government recognises border residents as the nation's frontline protectors, Modi said, 'Over the past decade, unprecedented efforts have been made to strengthen development and security in border districts'. Highlighting key initiatives, Modi said that approximately 10,000 new bunkers have been constructed, which played a critical role in safeguarding lives during the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. He also announced the formation of two new border battalions for the Jammu and Kashmir division, further enhancing security operations in the region. Additionally, he said two dedicated women battalions have also been successfully established, reinforcing defence capabilities and empowering women in the armed forces. Emphasising the significant infrastructure development taking place in India's international border regions, particularly in challenging terrains, the Prime Minister announced that hundreds of crores are being invested to improve connectivity and security. 'The Kathua-Jammu Highway is being upgraded into a six-lane expressway, while the Akhnoor-Poonch Highway is undergoing widening to facilitate smoother travel. Under the Vibrant Village Programme, development initiatives in border villages have been accelerated, ensuring better living conditions and opportunities for residents,' the Prime Minister said. He mentioned that 400 villages in Jammu and Kashmir, previously lacking all-weather connectivity, are now being linked with 1,800 km of newly constructed roads. He announced allocation of over Rs 4,200 crore for these infrastructure projects, reinforcing economic growth and regional development in border areas. IIT Guwahati's clay sedimentation technique to accurately detect Covid virus
New Delhi: Amid the fresh wave of Covid-19, with more than 5,000 active cases, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati developed a novel method to accurately detect and measure the amount of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid infection. The innovative approach is based on how quickly a clay-virus-electrolyte mixture settles: a process commonly known as sedimentation. The new technique offers a simple and affordable alternative to the complex and expensive methods like Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), antigen testing, and antibody testing -- currently in use for virus detection. The team used Bentonite clay -- a clay well known for its ability to absorb pollutants and heavy metals due to its unique chemical structure. Previous studies have shown that clay particles can bind with viruses and bacteriophages, making it a promising material for virus detection. In the study, researchers focused on how Bentonite clay interacts with virus particles in a salt environment. The results, published in the peer-reviewed journal Applied Clay Science, showed that a coronavirus surrogate and Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) binds to the negatively charged clay surfaces at a controlled room temperature and a neutral pH of 7. 'Imagine a world where detecting viruses is as simple as watching sand settle in water. That is the breakthrough we have achieved! Our new method uses clay to quickly identify and measure viruses, like the coronavirus,' said Prof. T.V. Bharat, Dept. of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati. 'By observing how the clay settles in a solution, we can determine if a virus is present and how much of it there is. This innovative approach offers a faster, more affordable, and accurate alternative to current methods, paving the way for better disease monitoring and treatment strategies, especially during pandemics,' he added. The new technique produced accurate results in comparison to the standard detection methods, reinforcing its reliability. Notably, the method can be extended to detect other viruses such as the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), which affects poultry and causes major losses in the farming industry, said the researchers.
