L Jagadamma Ezhaam Class B Movie Review: A watchable village drama that needed sharper writing
When political tensions rise in her workplace and realises things are not easy, Jagadamma takes the bold step of contesting the by-election as an independent. With support from her loyal foster son enacted by Kalesh and the Kudumbashree women, she rises against the odds and claims a surprising victory.
Directed by Shivas, the film feels like a spiritual sequel to Jaladhara Pumpset. It carries a similar mix of satire and social commentary, but the script here doesn't pack the same punch. While the premise is strong and the characters colourful, a tighter screenplay could've elevated the film much more.
Still, Urvashi's performance is reason enough to watch, commanding and effortlessly entertaining. She lifts even the weaker scenes with sheer presence.
A watchable village drama but it needed sharper writing to truly stand out.

WCC lauds woman actors for fighting injustices in industry
KOCHI: Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has lauded actors Urvashi and Swetha Menon and producer Sandra Thomas for 'fighting injustices' in the Malayalam film industry, even as it condemned statements by Adoor Gopalakrishnan on women and Dalit filmmakers. 'We congratulate Urvashi and Sandra Thomas for speaking up and expressing their opinions. Urvashi is protesting against the Central government for the way film awards were determined. We also condemn the stance taken against women who are coming to the forefront of film organisations, including Swetha Menon. All of them are symbols of tireless women who do not remain silent in the struggles they face in their careers and personal lives but rather move forward strongly,' stated WCC. The collective also criticised Adoor for his statements about new women and Dalit filmmakers at the film policy conclave held in Thiruvananthapuram last week. 'Through his commentsalit directors in Malayalam cinema, Adoor Gopalakrishnan has once again revealed his upper-caste, caste, and gender-based perspective to the public. WCC strongly condemns Adoor's approach and stance,' the statement said.

Kochi: Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) lauded singer Pushpavathy, actor Urvashi and producer Sandra Thomas for raising their voices to challenge the authorities on various issues. In a social media post, WCC pointed out on Friday that filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan once again exposed his upper-caste, gender-biased views through comments about the cinematic experiences of new women and Dalit directors in Malayalam cinema. "We fully support Pushpavathy, who courageously raised her voice against the dominant male power that marginalizes women and those living on the fringes," it said. WCC also commended Urvashi and Thomas for standing tall with their opinions. Urvashi is challenging central govt's film award decision, while Thomas is fighting against the organisation's anti-women stance. WCC condemns the positions held against women coming to the forefront of film organizations, including Shwetha Menon, the statement said. tnn Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Imtiaz Ali defends Shah Rukh Khan's National Award win for Jawan: 'If the country has honoured him...'
In response to the controversy surrounding Shah Rukh Khan's recent National Award win for the movie "Jawan," filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has publicly defended the actor, telling IANS that it was a proud moment while speaking on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai. 'No, no. If the country has honoured him, it's obviously a big thing. I would like to congratulate Shah Rukh Khan and all the people who got this big award. Thank you," he stated, sending his best wishes to each and every recipient. Shah Rukh Khan's performance in the movie "Jawan" earned him his first National Award for Best Actor on August 1. Urvashi, a South actress, started the controversy by quietly casting doubt on SRK's National Award victory. Urvashi pointed to the jury's unfair decisions while accepting the Best Supporting Actress award for "Ullozhukku." She allegedly questioned what made Jawan deserving of Best Actor honors, without specifically mentioning Shah Rukh, while veteran Malayalam actor Vijayaraghavan's stirring performance wasn't even taken into consideration for the lead category. Online discussion was sparked by her comments. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They were so beautiful before; look at them now; number 10 will Surprise you Undo However, some internet users were shocked to understand that Shah Rukh Khan had won the National Award for "Jawan," wondering why it had taken him 33 years to receive this honor. Many noted that he was not given credit for some of his most famous roles in movies like "Devdas," "Swades," "Veer Zaara," and "Chak De! India." The actor's victory generated discussion regarding the jury's selection criteria and timing. Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna defended Shah Rukh Khan in the face of increasing criticism over the actor's National Award victory. "People who are saying that Shah Rukh Khan should not have received the award for this film (Jawan) but for Swades—remember A. R. Rahman received the Oscar for 'Jai Ho' and not for the various beautiful songs he created in the past," he informed IANS. "Shah Rukh has been working hard for the past 40 years now—so what is wrong if he has received a National Award?"
