A Special NIA court here on Thursday said it will likely give the judgment in the 2008 Malegaon blast case on July 31, noting that the matter has voluminous documents and it needs some time to deliver the verdict. Almost 17 years after the blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court had on April 19 reserved the verdict for May 8. However, Special Judge A K Lahoti, presiding over the case, kept it for the next date.The judge told the accused persons, present in the court, that the case has voluminous documents, and it will take some time to pass the judgment. He asked all the accused in the case to be present on July 31, the next date.Six people were killed and over 100 injured when an explosive device strapped on a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon, a town about 200 km from Mumbai in north Maharashtra, on September 29, 2008.During the trial, the prosecution examined 323 witnesses, of whom 34 turned hostile. Lt Col Prasad Purohit , BJP leader Pragya Thakur , Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Sameer Kulkarni are facing trial in the case under the provisions the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, or UAPA , and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The case was initially probed by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) before being transferred to the NIA in 2011.

3 minor girls raped in Goa's Calangute; guest house owner, manager among 4 held
Police have arrested the owner and the manager of a guest house in North Goa district where three minor girls were allegedly raped by two men, taking the number of those held in the case to four, officials said on Thursday. The girls, aged 11, 13 and 15 and residents of the same building, were allegedly raped by two men at the guest house located in Calangute area on June 7 and 8. The five had checked-in at the guest house together, they said. The two older girls are sisters. The girls' parents filed complaints on June 8 that they had gone missing a day earlier. Police formed multiple teams, and rescued them on the same day from the guest house while arresting Altaf Mujawar (19) and Om Naik (21), an official earlier said. Two more persons - guest house owner Rajat Chauhan (31) and manager Mansoor Peer (35) - were arrested on Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta told PTI on Thursday. They were arrested for accommodating the minor girls at the guest house without verification and consent of their parents, thus violating laws and abetting the crime, he said. All the four accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children's Act, the police said. "We are sealing the guest house and moving for cancellation of its license. The guest house management and owners will not be spared if they give room to a child in the absence of any family or relatives accompanying him or her," the SP said, cautioning all such facilities in the state.

CB to probe fraud at Diya Krishna's store
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The case involving a financial fraud of Rs 69 lakh from a store run by BJP leader Krishnakumar's daughter Diya Krishna has been handed over to the Crime Branch. Three former women employees -- Vinitha, Divya and Radhakumari -- have been accused of siphoning off the money. The Crime Branch will also investigate a counter complaint by the employees who alleged that Krishnakumar and his team abducted them. The case, first investigated by the Museum Police, was transferred based on a report by the Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner. The report said the Museum station faces practical difficulties in handling the case due to other law and order duties. It also noted that the case is sensational and has gained public attention.

Haryana to chargesheet 80 irrigation officials after samples fail quality tests
The Haryana government has decided to chargesheet 80 officials from the irrigation department after multiple construction material samples from irrigation projects failed quality tests. Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry stated on Wednesday that 48 samples were collected from various ongoing projects, of which 18 did not meet quality standards. Official sources told The Indian Express that as many as 68 officials, ranging from junior engineers to executive engineers, will face chargesheets for major penalties under Section 7 of the Haryana Civil Services Rules. Additionally, 12 superintending engineers will be chargesheeted for minor penalties under Section 8 of the rules. Displeasure notes will also be issued to three chief engineers. The issue pertains to 23 canal rehabilitation projects spread across the state. Minister Choudhry noted that some projects were nearing completion, a phase in which the accountability of officials increases significantly. Following repeated complaints, the department's vigilance wing conducted raids and collected samples, leading to the action. She said that a significant portion of payments had already been made to contractors, adding that authorities would explore ways to recover funds where necessary. Reaffirming the state BJP government's zero-tolerance policy, she emphasised that 'there will be no compromise on the quality of construction material.' About the Kishau Dam project, Choudhry said that it is a national-level project and holds great importance for Haryana. Through this dam, Haryana will not only receive water for irrigation and drinking purposes. The state will get 709 cusecs of water from the Yamuna river through the Kishau Dam, she said.
