
Step to promote Odia under NEP: Odisha Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on IGNOU's new diploma course launch
Odisha Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Monday expressed happiness over the launch of
Indira Gandhi National Open University
's (IGNOU) Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (DECE) in Odia.
The minister said most of the enrolled students are anganwadi workers or play school teachers, adding that the move is in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) to promote learning in the mother tongue. He said the course was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on August 18.
'Most of the enrolled students are anganwadi workers or play school teachers. Under the New Education Policy, this is our step towards promoting education in the mother tongue.
We are translating as many course materials in Odia as we can. Our intention is to make higher education more accessible,' Suraj told reporters.
He informed that the state government had signed an MoU with IGNOU on June 9, under which the translation of the course material into Odia was to be completed within 100 days.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor Uma Kanjilal said the introduction of the diploma course in Odia was the first step to make study material available in the language and overcome the language barrier.
'This is our first step in making the course material available in the mother tongue. This will help us overcome the language barrier and is aligned with the NEP 2020.
Within two to three months, other major programmes will also be translated into Odia. We plan to translate all the programmes within two years. Next will be undergraduate programmes, followed by postgraduate programmes,' Kanjilal said.
The Odia course material and textbooks for the DECE were formally released on Monday by Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
As per the MoU, IGNOU will gradually offer its undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, diploma, certificate courses, Bachelor of Vocational Studies, Travel and Tourism Management, BBA, MBA, and several other programmes in Odia.
Previously, IGNOU offered the DECE in English, Hindi and Tamil. With this launch, Odia has also been added.
The DECE is a one-year diploma course, open to students after completion of +2. It focuses on early childhood education, child health and nutrition. Students will be provided with textbooks, audio cassettes, and video tutorials. Both theory and practical components are included to ensure academic as well as hands-on learning. ANI

India greenlights Rs 62,000 crore Tejas Mark 1A deal; IAF to boost indigenous fleet with 97 fighter jets
The central government on Tuesday approved the purchase of 97 LCA Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force at a cost of Rs 62,000 crore. Defence sources told ANI that the clearance came during a high-level meeting and will now allow Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to begin production. This marks the second major order for the Mark 1A jets. The first, placed a few years ago, was for 83 aircraft worth around Rs 48,000 crore. With the new order, the total number of LCA Mark 1A jets for the Air Force now stands at 180. These initiatives align with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India missions, emphasising self-reliance in defence and aerospace manufacturing. Recently, the Defence Acquisition Council approved proposals for acquiring 156 LCH Prachand helicopters and upgrading 84 Su-30MKI fighters, with these projects collectively valued at Rs 1.6 lakh crore. The first version of the Tejas aircraft was inducted in 2016. Currently, two IAF squadrons operate the aircraft, which is expected to become the largest fighter fleet in the Air Force in the coming years. Shrine constructed on PWD land demolished in Farrukhabad
Kanpur: A shrine constructed illegally on a land belonging to the Public Works Department (PWD) was demolished at Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad after lodging a case against a man and his unidentified accomplice for allegedly grabbing the govt land and disrupting communal harmony. Bhola, a resident of Sota Bahadurpur village, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly occupied a permanent platform constructed on the land belonging to PWD's warehouse on the banks of the Ganga and placed green tiles on it, transforming it into a shrine. Executive engineer of PWD, Murli Dhar, filed a report at the Kadri Gate police station stating that this act has not only damaged a govt property but also posed a threat to communal harmony and law and order. Authorities filed a case against the accused for illegally occupying govt property and disrupting communal harmony. The illegally constructed shrine was demolished by the administration using a bulldozer recently in the presence of police force. The shrine was allegedly constructed overnight.
