"Kicker": Stuttgart want to bring back former striker

Sebastian Hoeneß' VfB Stuttgart are working on a possible return of Wolfsburg's Tiago Tomás. The 23-year-old spent the second half of the 2021/22 and the full 2022/23 season on loan at Stuttgart, where he featured in 47 games and contributed 12 goals. Even though the Portugese player was able to secure himself a starting spot in Wolfsburg's lineup last season, he is facing a lot of competition, since Wolfsburg brought in two more players for his position this summer. Adding to that, new Wolfsburg headcoach Paul Simonis is reportedly not high on Tomás, which could open up the avenue for Stuttgart to swoop in and get their former striker back! Tomás has spoken fondly about his time in Stuttgart in the past: 'It was a great honor for me to play for this club and in front of these fans. I developed enormously in Stuttgart. The club and the fans deserve to be successful.' A transfer back then didn't come about, because Stuttgart couldn't afford to pay the optional clause of €15 million - believe it or not, Stuttgart were fighting against relegation back then. Wolfsburg however, were able to strike a deal with Sporting Lisbon worth 'only' €8 million in order to sign Tomás. At Stuttgart, Tomás would fight against Chris Führich and Jamie Leweling for a starting spot in the first eleven, while Stuttgart's new talent Lazar Jovanović is not seen as a starter just yet. In the case of a possible Woltemade departure, the Portugese striker could also feature in the center of attack.
