Lions trade package that would land Micah Parsons in blockbuster deal with Cowboys

Yahoo21 hours ago
The door is slightly ajar for the Detroit Lions — and 30 other teams — to trade for Dallas Cowboys superstar linebacker, Micah Parsons.
On Friday, Parsons took to social media to reveal that he has requested a trade.
Before that, a report from The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Jon Machota said that Parsons and the Cowboys are no longer talking about a contract extension and that the relationship has been badly damaged.
While it remains to be seen if the Cowboys will actually trade Parsons or if this is just another Myles Garrett-Cleveland Browns situation, analysts have already begun firing off possible trade packages for the four-time Pro Bowler.
One of those packages comes from Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, who suggested this trade for the Lions.
Lions Receive: Edge Micah Parsons, 2026 5th-round pick
Cowboys Receive: 2026 1st-round pick, 2026 2nd-round pick, 2027 1st-round pick, 2026 3rd-round pick, Edge Marcus Davenport
"The Lions will be legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season if they can experience better injury fortune than they had a year ago. However, they still need a high-end edge-rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson and build a complete roster," Knox wrote.

"To do it, Detroit might have to convince Hutchinson to take a bit less than Parsons and find a creative way to structure the two deals. With $51.1 million in cap space, though, the Lions could at least lay the groundwork for those contracts," he adds.
That is an absolutely massive package of picks and is probably more than the Lions would actually have to give up. Even still, for a generational talent like Parsons, it would be well worth it for a Lions team eyeing its first Super Bowl.
The Lions need more juice in their pass-rush. Davenport is too injury-prone to rely on as support for Aidan Hutchinson, who is coming off a season in which he suffered a significant injury.
It's true that the Lions would have to pay both Hutchinson and Parsons enormous contracts, but if there's two players on the same team you can justify paying big money to, it would be those two if they were paired in Detroit.
Having Parsons and Hutchinson in the same lineup would give Detroit the most dynamic pass-rushing duo in the NFL and would greatly increase the Lions' chances of winning the Super Bowl.
Are there financial concerns with acquiring Parsons down the road? Of course, but with the Lions in win-now mode, trade for generational defensive talent first, ask questions later.

Nepo baby or late bloomer? Former 6th rounder has front office, Cowboys coaching connect

The football world wipe a falling tear from their collective eye when Deuce Vaughn became a National Football Leaguer. Late into Day 3 of the 2023 NFL draft, the yet-to-be selected diminutive backfield threat received a call from his dad. Only this wasn't a call to tell him to keep his head up. Chris Vaughn works in the front office of the Dallas Cowboys and was calling to tell his son he was being selected and brought back to North Texas. The Cowboys are a family owned and operated franchise, so nepotism is hardly looked at as a negative experience. But following that emotional moment that was shared far and wide across the football universe, things haven't gone that well for Vaughn. He didn't mesh well with the run game that head coach Mike McCarthy was running. He appeared in just seven games as a rookie, with a woeful 1.7 yards per carry. Appearing in seven games again his second year, his average blossomed to a respectable 4.1 yards a carry, but his impact was still minimal. With Brian Schottenheimer moving up to the head coach role, he brought in changes to the staff. Klayton Adams was brought in from Arizona to be the new OC, and Vaughn's former college OC Conor Riley was hired as the new OL coach. The changes seem to have suited Vaughn, as he was the teams most impressive back through the first few days of training camp. A hamstring injury halted that though, and potentially threatens Vaughn's chances to make the 53-man roster. Rundown Position: Running Back Age: 24 Height: 5-foot-5 Weight: 179 pounds Hometown: Fayetteville, AR High School: Cedar Ridge (TX) College: Kansas State (College Highlights) Draft: 2023 Sixth Round (No. 212 Overall) Acquired: 2023 draft Contract: Four-year contract (2023), $4 million 2025 Base Salary: $1 million, no guarantees Career Earnings: $1.8 million (per Over The Cap) Profile Vaughn backed up several players last year and though Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle are no longer in town, the team signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, as well as drafted Jaydon Blue in the fifth round. Along with an apparent renewed commitment to fullback Hunter Luepke, it makes for a difficult proposition for Vaughn to remain with the team on the 53-man roster. He'd need an extraordinary training camp, and that's what he was having until the injury sidelined him. His void was filled by Blue, who began to excel as the pads came on, leaving Vaughn's role a question mark, made more murky by the staff's usage of WR Kavontae Turpin out of the backfield. Vaughn will really need to impress in the preseason to keep his dream of being a meaningful contributor to the Cowboys alive. Browns reporter takes savage shot at Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson romance in Hall of Fame speech

Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot took a brutal jab at Bill Belichick's highly publicized romance with 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson on Friday when she accepted the Bill Nunn Memorial Award during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Gold Jacket Dinner in Canton, Ohio. Cabot, who began covering the Browns in 1991, the same year Belichick, 73, took over as coach in Cleveland, first joked about going through the wringer with the future Hall of Famer. 'Bill Belichick was the first Browns coach I ever covered,' Cabot began, as covered by Awful Announcing. 'You see, if you start out with Bill Belichick, no one can rattle you after that. If Bill didn't like something I wrote, he'd call and yell at me. If you asked a dumb question, he'd call you out. Eventually, I had to learn to stand up to him. During one of those yelling matches, I told him, if you don't have the 'footballs' to say that to the guys, then don't say it to me. Bam.' Getty Images That's when Cabot's speech pivoted to the UNC coach's widely scrutinized personal life. Advertisement 'But now, I totally understand why Bill gave me such a hard time. I was 28 at the time, and he just couldn't relate to a woman that old,' Cabot said as the audience roared with laughter. Although many on social media also chuckled over Cabot's zinger, the remarks didn't appear to please everyone. 4 Mary Kay Cabot speaks at the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Gold Jacket Dinner on Aug. 1, 2025. No wonder so many have contempt for the media, especially those who want to be the story rather than [report] on the story.' Belichick's romance with Hudson was first revealed in June 2024. 4 Bill Belichick is preparing for his first season as football coach of the Tar Heels. AP Their relationship has largely been under a microscope following a disastrous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview in April, when Hudson pushed back on a question intended for Belichick about how they met. New York Giants' Jon Runyan Jr. impressed with Evan Neal, Abdul Carter

This week, two-time Super Bowl head coach Tom Coughlin addressed the current iteration of the New York Giants, telling them that stars are necessary to win, but "you need soldiers, too." One of those "soldiers" is left guard Jon Runyan Jr., who is entering his second season with the club. Runyan is finally healthy after a season with multiple physical issues. He fought through a separated shoulder all season and then succumbed to an ankle injury in Week 13. On Saturday, Runyan met with the media and discussed his health and other issues with reporters. "I hadn't missed a game my entire career," Runyan said about his first stint on IR last year. "Going down the home stretch the last month of the season last year, and sitting on IR definitely wasn't what I had planned or something that I was really happy about, but couldn't really control it. For me, I just kind of try to take that as a mental reset for me. "Trying to really dig in on what I could be doing to make myself better physically and mentally, and felt like I had a pretty strong offseason recovering from that. And same with going into OTAs and now in training camp, can kind of feel really good right now. And hopefully, our entire team comes out of this training camp healthy and we're able to keep the ball rolling from where we're starting in training camp." Runyan also addressed the transition of Evan Neal to guard. "Yeah, transitioning from tackle to guard, I did it, I mean, from a different level, I played tackle in college and moved inside to guard. The three interior positions are kind of a different world," he said. "Tackle, you're out in space, and you have the luxury of running defensive ends just kind of up the field past the quarterback. But at guard, you're in a wrestling match, like kind of in a phone booth. You have to stay in front of the guys, you have to anchor, you have to set the depth of the pocket. "And Evan, you see those flashes of him when he gets his feet under control and he's punching, he's a large human and not many people are able to bull rush him and set him back. So, Evan's doing a good job, he's progressing. It is like a world of difference moving from outside to inside, in my opinion. I think he's done a good job so far in training camp and can only see him getting better from here. So, it's been inspiring to see what he's done so far in there." Rookie linebacker Abdul Carter has also impressed Runyan. "Abdul's been awesome," said Runyan, who's seen Carter's back multiple times this camp already. "A guy as shifty as Abdul, and he can give you a really quick hesitation, left, right, and kind of stutter your feet. And next thing you know, he's already around you." The Giants finally have a sensible plan at quarterback with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart. Runyan spoke about how different it's been with a seasoned, accomplished veteran under center such as Wilson. "Russ has been great for our offense," he said. "Coming in here, he's really stepped into that leadership role. I feel like he was someone that we really needed to bring in here. He's been great, bringing this offense together, extra offensive unit meetings. Kind of really getting guys on the same page and seeing the game and seeing the field, how he sees it. "And I just can't talk enough about how good of a leader he is to the young guys, to the vets, and bringing everybody together. Just every day, he's the same person and brings that consistency. I think that's something we need around here, and he's been awesome for that. So, I have nothing but great things to say about Russ."
