Written and directed by Thaparr, Jombieland takes viewers to a vibrant Punjabi village that falls victim to the deadly Z1N1 virus, unleashing a widespread zombie outbreak. Amidst the madness, the film centers on Jeeti and Koko, two lovers already struggling against family opposition to their relationship. Their fight for love takes a dramatic turn as they are forced into a desperate battle for survival.
Produced by Neeraj Ruhil and Subhav Sharma under the banner of Next Level Productions, Jombieland also features Dhanveer Singh, Guri, and Jassa Dhillon. The film is set to release in five languages: Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, aiming for a wider reach.
Speaking about her experience, Kanika Mann described the film as a 'wild ride.' 'Jombieland is raw, emotional, and packed with edge-of-the-seat action. I've never seen a zombie apocalypse story told through the lens of Punjabi culture, and that's what makes this film so special. My character is a fighter, someone who evolves with every challenge, and portraying her was both liberating and intense," Bollywood Hungama reported.
Angira Dhar expressed her initial intrigue with the concept of 'zombies in Punjab.' She stated, 'From the moment I heard the concept — zombies in Punjab — I was hooked. This is more than just a horror-action film; it's a survival story rooted in emotion, community, and resilience. This genre is new territory for Punjabi films, and I'm thrilled we're the ones leading that charge. There's grit, there's heart, and there's a whole lot of mayhem. Audiences are in for a wild, unforgettable experience."

Hyderabad gamers hail Online Gaming Bill as boost for esports, curb on addiction
Gamers, creators and developers in Hyderabad on Wednesday welcomed the passage of the Online Gaming Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha, describing it as a long-awaited step to curb the menace of real-money gaming (RMG) while opening up space for esports and skill-based gaming to grow. For Vinay Vangala, a Panjagutta resident who lodged a police complaint in March against online betting platforms, the development felt deeply personal. 'It is a relief to see this addressed at a national level,' he said. 'Both the State and Central governments have been clear about ending this menace. I am thankful to the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police for going after offenders, whether common people or celebrities.' Vinay admitted that he too had once been tempted. 'My friends in Ameerpet had told me about quick money through online games. I almost fell for it but after doing some research, I realised it was illegal. That was when I approached the Panjagutta police and filed a complaint.' His complaint encouraged others to share their struggles. Hyderabad's esports and gaming community have welcomed the Bill for shifting the conversation away from gambling-like activities. Dhanu Dino, a Malkajgiri resident and popular gaming influencer who runs Telugu Gaming FF with over 2.45 million YouTube subscribers, called it a chance to redirect energy toward esports. 'This move will push focus back to esports. The Telugu influencer community had already distanced itself from RMG two years ago. The future is esports, not betting apps.' Dhanu explained that a successful, thriving career can be built sans the RMG method. 'If you just create good content on YouTube, Instagram or streaming apps, you can be assured of a career. I am buying a house this year with the money I earned through esports, YouTube revenue and streaming; never RMG or ads,' he added. He hoped the new law would mean 'the next generation won't even know what RMG is'. Meanwhile, developers say that the Bill is an overdue chance to separate video gaming from the taint of betting platforms. Sameer Chengappa, a game designer at Funfinity Interactive currently working on AS:RA Ashen Skies: Radiant Arena, emphasised that esports and traditional gaming should never be confused with gambling. 'The problem is that video games are being lumped together with RMG in the digital space. RMG is not gaming, it is closer to gambling which has its own regulations. Esports, video games and online gambling are all very different,' he said. He added, 'If the same rules applying to RMG are imposed on us, the industry simply cannot grow. This initiative was about drawing that line clearly.' 'Though this move cannot undo the loss we suffered, maybe others can be spared from such a fate,' said Sai Prasad, a private company employee from Musheerabad, adding that he lost his friend to online gambling addiction last year.

Anurag Kashyap slams producer Vijay Subramaniam over AI generated film 'Chiranjeevi Hanuman'
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has called out producer Vijay Subramaniam for his AI-generated movie Chiranjeevi Hanuman- The Eternal, saying it represents a dangerous future for Hindi cinema. The 52-year-old shared the film's poster on Instagram with a note to Subramaniam, who is the founder and group CEO of talent management agency Collective Artists Network. Subramaniam has produced the project in collaboration with Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment. "Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you're no match for his AI performance. "This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter," Kashyap posted. The director further said that companies are always looking out for themselves rather than the talent. "So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators. End of the day, all these agencies are only interested in making money off you and since they choose turkeys after turkeys for you and you're not making enough for them, they are going all AI," Kashyap added. In a follow-up comment on his post, Kashyap said he has no issues with artificial intelligence as nobody "can stop AI from taking over every field and the world". "My genuine grouse is with my friend Vijay Subramaniam, because he is the CEO of KWAN Collective. He represents the artists, the voice of artists and he is producing an AI FILM, when the industry needs corrections, especially from the agencies, who are very responsible for costs going up, actors career paths and writers, musician , filmmakers." ALSO READ: Anurag Kashyap calls out Tamil composers for anglicising film music Earlier, Kashyap's close friend, filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, had reacted over the film announcement in a post on his Instagram Stories. "And so it begins... Who TF needs writers and directors when it's 'Made in AI'? (sic)" the Black Warrant director wrote. Subramaniam had earlier told PTI in an interview that his aims to create films that merge modern technology with ancient stories that will cater to a younger audience with shorter attention spans.

Here's when and where you can watch Fahadh Faasil, Vadivelu's comedy drama Maareesan on OTT
A mysterious journey unfolds when two unlikely companions set off across Tamil Nadu. One is a cunning thief with ulterior motives; the other, an elderly man battling memory loss. What begins as a simple plan for deception soon transforms into an emotional odyssey neither expected. When and where to watch Maareesan? Maareesan, the latest Tamil film starring Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, is set to premiere on Netflix on August 22, 2025. Directed by Sudheesh Sankar, this road-trip thriller delves into themes of trust, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships. What is the storyline? The storyline of Maareesan follows Dhaya, a small-time thief (played by Fahadh Faasil), who targets Velayudham, an elderly man with Alzheimer's (played by Vadivelu), as part of a con. Dhaya pretends to help Velayudham in his supposed quest to find his long-lost daughter, seeing it as an easy opportunity to gain something in return. As they journey together across Tamil Nadu, what begins as manipulation slowly evolves into a genuine emotional bond. Dhaya starts to empathize with Velayudham's vulnerability and sincerity. The road trip reveals hidden truths, personal regrets, and forces both characters to confront their pasts. How were the performances? The performances were widely appreciated, with Vadivelu earning particular praise for his role as Velayudham. Known primarily for his comedic work, Vadivelu showcased his range with a restrained and emotional performance that became one of the film's strongest elements. Fahadh Faasil, as the morally grey thief Dhaya, delivered a layered portrayal, effectively capturing the character's transformation from selfish motives to empathy and redemption. How was the box office response? Despite the critical praise, the film, which was released on July 25, struggled at the box office. Maareesan opened to a modest Rs 75 lakh on its first day and eventually collected around Rs 6.55 crore domestically. With an estimated production budget of Rs 15 crore, the film failed to recover its costs theatrically. Audiences responded well to the film post-theatrical release, and it currently holds an impressive IMDb rating of 8.2. While Maareesan may not have achieved commercial success, it resonated deeply with viewers for its sincere performances and heartfelt narrative. Story Highlights Maareesan follows conman (Fahadh Faasil) who tries to exploit elderly man with Alzheimer's (Vadivelu) on road trip. The Film is all set to stream on Netflix from August 22, 2025. Vadivelu delivers a standout emotional performance, moving beyond his usual comic roles. Though it underperformed at the box office, the film received critical acclaim and holds a strong IMDb rating of 8.2/10.
