MAIWP allocates over RM59 million for asnaf welfare programmes in collaboration with NGOs, religious institutions
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said this was an effort by MAIWP to expand its role in ensuring that no asnaf is left out of receiving assistance.
He said NGOs and religious institutions such as mosques and suraus, tahfiz centres as well as shelters play an important role as field partners able to directly support the community and understand the real wants of the needy.
'My message to all NGOs; be the eyes and ears of MAIWP as you all are on the ground, always with the needy.
'Without you, MAIWP will probably be unable to reach all the hidden corners...the paces that may be difficult for us to get to,' he said when speaking at an event with NGOs and strategic partners of MAIWP 2025 here today.
Also present at the event were MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer and acting chief executive officer Mohd Fauzi Abidin.
Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im said that last year MAIWP allocated RM49.3 million to NGOs and related agencies under the Ummah Development Cluster.
He also said that until yesterday (May 21), a total of RM399.2 million in zakat funds had been distributed to MAIWP through various aid schemes mobilised under six main clusters.
These clusters are Welfare, Protection, Economy, Medicine, Education and Developmen, in addition to ongoing programmes and initiatives in the Federal Territory, Putrajaya and Labuan.

McDonald's Malaysia pays RM2 million zakat to be distributed nationwide
PUTRAJAYA: McDonald's Malaysia has announced a corporate zakat payment of RM2 million for this year, to be distributed across 14 states nationwide. Managing director and local operating partner Datuk Azmir Jaafar said the company will visit each state to present the zakat to respective state zakat centres, with ceremonies held at selected McDonald's restaurants. 'McDonald's Malaysia is very grateful to be able to fulfil this zakat obligation, which is one of the pillars of Islam,' he said. Azmir added that beyond meeting the obligatory requirement, the company is sharing its gratitude with the community by helping those in need while appreciating customer support. Since 2017, McDonald's Malaysia, a fully Muslim-owned company, has paid a total of RM14 million in zakat. Putrajaya was the fourth location for the zakat presentation ceremony, following Perak, Terengganu, and Selangor. At the event, McDonald's Malaysia presented RM300,000 to the Zakat Collection Centre of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (PPZ-MAIWP). PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Hakim Amir Osman expressed appreciation for McDonald's consistent corporate zakat contributions, calling them vital for assisting more asnaf recipients. 'We hope to expand long-term cooperation with McDonald's Malaysia, to support asnaf communities more effectively in the future,' he said. In 2019, McDonald's Malaysia became the first company to receive the Corporate Zakat Contribution Certificate from PPZ-MAIWP. The company also distributed 100 Kotak Rezeki containing daily essentials to underprivileged families in Putrajaya. Through its Komuniti@McDonald's programme, the company conducts over 10,000 welfare activities annually across its 370 restaurants nationwide. Azmir highlighted initiatives such as celebrating orphans' birthdays, providing moreh during Ramadan, and supporting senior citizens at care centres. KUALA LUMPUR: The company appointed for Lembaga Tabung Haji's (TH) branding exercise is a consortium of four local firms. The selection was based on expertise and capabilities aligned with the project's requirements. He stated that the appointment followed TH's procurement processes and governance, overseen by its Board of Directors. 'TH consistently upholds the highest standards of corporate governance and complies with all procurement policies and procedures.' 'TH has always prioritised Bumiputera companies under its procurement policy.' 'Last year, 81 per cent of TH's appointed vendors were Bumiputera firms, accounting for 70 per cent of TH's total expenditure.' For the branding project, Mohd Na'im confirmed the consultancy cost is RM5.9 million over three years. He clarified that the cost is not RM20 million as previously alleged. Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) was suspended from Dewan Rakyat for two days. The suspension followed his repeated interjections during Mohd Na'im's clarification on non-Bumiputera firms in the TH branding exercise. Deputy Speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yieng initially asked Ahmad Marzuk to leave the chamber for 30 minutes. After he continued disrupting the session, Lau ordered his removal and extended the suspension to two days.
