Royal tour reflects concern of the royal institution for the people - Mohd Na'im

PUTRAJAYA: The intention by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to embark on a 'Kembara Diraja' (Royal Tour) across the federal territories to meet the people and distribute zakat (tithe) reflects the love and concern of the Royal Institution for the people, especially the poor, needy and vulnerable. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said this was conveyed by Sultan Ibrahim in his Royal Address at an investiture ceremony in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara yesterday. He expressed his gratitude for the message and pledged his full commitment to supporting and realising His Majesty's noble wishes. 'The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) will work closely with the Prime Minister's Department and relevant agencies, including local authorities, to implement this special programme in phases,' Mohd Na'im said in a post on his official Facebook page today. He said the main objective of the Royal Tour initiative is to personally deliver zakat to the poor and needy, assess the actual needs of the people through a grassroots and people-friendly approach, enhance the effectiveness of the zakat distribution system, and strengthen the bond between the Royal Institution and the rakyat. 'Indeed, the concern and compassion shown by His Majesty serve as a meaningful source of inspiration to all leaders and agencies, for them to uphold the values of compassion, social justice and the culture of giving in our society. 'Daulat Tuanku, May Allah SWT bless His Majesty's reign, grant strength and wisdom for His Majesty to lead the nation and its people,' he said.

MAIWP: Speed up surau projects on schedule

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), together with contractors and consultants, must ensure that surau construction projects under their purview progress smoothly and are completed on schedule. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, said timely completion of these projects is a key expectation of the local community. 'There are surau projects currently under construction, and I have instructed MAIWP and the contractors to give full attention to ensuring they are completed within the stipulated period. 'The community looks forward to having their surau ready... it's disheartening when residents pass by daily, still wondering when it will be done,' he told reporters after officiating the key handover ceremony for Surau Al-Firdaus in Precinct 11F here today. Also present was Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president, Datuk Fadhlun Mak Ujud. Meanwhile, Mohd Na'im expressed hope that Surau Al-Firdaus, expected to begin operations on June 1, will serve not only as a place of worship but also as a hub for community activities. He added that construction delays were due to the COVID-19 pandemic and technical issues related to the original design. 'Due to specific requirements, the initial RM3 million allocation was increased to RM6.8 million, and the size of the surau was expanded from 710 to 1,710 square metres,' he said.

MAIWP ordered to find Muslim convert after viral plea over abuse, lack of assistance

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), particularly its Asnaf Tracking Unit, has been instructed to locate a female Muslim convert (mualaf) who recently went viral on social media after expressing her intention to leave Islam, claiming she had received no assistance and had been abused by her husband. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said this was to ensure immediate assistance could be extended to the woman. "I have watched the viral video and have contacted MAIWP to search for the woman so that we can offer help. "At the same time, I believe there is a need to meet her personally to obtain further details, as there are still many unclear matters," he told reporters after an engagement session with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and MAIWP's strategic partners for 2025, held here today. He also urged the woman or anyone who knew her to contact MAIWP so that further action and appropriate support could be given. On the woman's claim that she was beaten and abandoned by her husband while pregnant, Mohd Na'im said if the allegations were true, she has the right to dissolve the marriage under the Syariah law. "The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), before his passing, left an important message; that husbands must not oppress their wives. "When a woman embraces Islam through marriage, the husband's responsibility to guide and care for her becomes even greater," he said. Mohd Na'im also called on the Muslim community to be more compassionate towards converts who needed support and aid so that they do not feel sidelined or lose faith in the religion. "We need to show empathy and concern. I would also like to advise mosques, suraus, and all Islamic agencies, including MAIWP, to treat converts seeking help with kindness," he added. He said as of May this year, MAIWP had registered 1,098 converts in the Federal Territories compared to 968 last year. A total of RM9.3 million in aid has also been disbursed. Mohd Na'im further assured that all agencies under his purview would assist every individual in need, including converts who needed support, protection, and guidance. "I do not want a single overlooked case to lead to the religious agencies being blamed or viewed negatively. "We will continue to improve and ensure that those in need receive the help they deserve," he said. – Bernama
