A 48-year-old woman is accused of chopping off her husband's genitals, strangling him with her bare hands and decapitating him
A 48-year-old woman is alleged to have pounced on her husband after a night shift, decapitating him and feeding his genitals to their dogs after years of domestic abuse.
The shocking incident is said to have occurred when Maria, a Ukrainian woman, found her husband Oleksandr returning in the early hours after work on August 23, 2019. She is accused of strangling him with her bare hands. Maria was reportedly "covered in blood" according to eyewitnesses.
Police said the incident came after a long period of physical abuse from her husband. Officers said she told them she "was suffering domestic violence for ages and murdered her husband to put an end to it and that it was the only way out".
Maria is alleged to have first strangled her husband before decapitating him by cutting his head of with an axe. She is the alleged to have grabbed a knife from the kitchen, cut off his genitals and fed them to her pet dogs.
Maria is then accused of trying to chop the victim's body into pieces but did not succeed and ran out into the street covered in blood. Speaking to local media, Nadezhda Opanasiuk, a neighbor who spotted the accused on the street, said she could not believe what Maria was telling her until she saw the gruesome scene and she admitted to having her husband's head in a sack.
Opanasiuk said: "Her hands, feet and clothes were in blood. She said, 'I am in trouble. I've killed my husband.' I did not believe her. I thought they had a quarrel and she might have hit him. I went to see if he needed medical help. When I walked into the room, I saw his mutilated body. The bedsheets were soaked with blood. I asked her, 'Where's his head?', and she replied, 'there, in the sack.'"
Opanasiuk alerted the neighbors about it who then called the police. Officers arrived at the scene and took Maria into custody after she confessed to the crime.
Confirming the incident, police spokesman Vadim Artiukhovich said, "The suspect confessed in full at the scene. She was charged with murder and taken into custody."
He added: "The woman said that she was constantly suffering physical and emotional abuse and did not see any other option to end her misery.
"Neighbors say they, in fact, saw the husband beating her up and chasing her with an axe a lot of times. However, the woman has never reported the incidents."
However, Maria's son Viktor Fesianov cannot forgive her for what she did. "I know she is my mother. But I do not want to see her any more," he told local media. Maria faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty. The investigation was ongoing in 2019.

Cammy Day complainer says Labour should be ashamed for readmitting council chief
SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: The former council leader was welcomed back to the party last week despite complaints. A man who complained about former council leader Cammy Day has blasted the Labour party for allowing him to rejoin. The man, who is a constituent of Day's in Edinburgh, complained that he was being sexually harassed in 2022. The party said to progress his complaint he would have to go through a formal process, which he declined and argued it was placing the onus on victims to take action. Now the man has criticised the decision to allow Day back in to the party after we revealed he had sent sexual messages to Ukrainian refugees. He was also the subject of several complaints to Edinburgh City Council. The man said: 'If a senior leader in the Labour Party can act in a sexually inappropriate manner with impunity, what message does that send to victims of sexual harassment? Scottish Labour have given the green light to misconduct by re-admitting Cammy Day and have sent an unequivocal message to victims about whose side they are really on. 'I believe this will significantly undermine the whole system and processes that are meant to protect victims of sexual harassment; and decrease the likelihood of victims coming forward in future. Shame on them.' Labour Party spokesperson said: 'The Labour Party takes all complaints seriously. They are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate action is taken.'
