‘We didn't need words': AB de Villiers pens heartfelt note of RCB, Virat Kohli and fans

Bonafide Royal Challengers Bengaluru and South Africa legend AB de Villiers played for the franchise for 11 years but never lifted the Indian Premier League trophy till the day he left them. But on June 3, he got the opportunity to get his hands on the coveted trophy after Virat Kohli invited him to take part in RCB's victory celebrations after the franchise finally won their maiden title after a long wait.
The Protea icon on Thursday shared an emotional love letter to the fans and the franchise on his social media, detailing what it means for him, the team and Kohli to finally lift the elusive trophy.
'Dear RCB Family, last night was something words will never fully do justice to you. But I'll try because the heart deserves to speak when it's full. As I walked into the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the sun had already dipped below the skyline, but it felt like the red of RCB still lit up the horizon. A neutral venue, they said. But when I heard the roar, saw the jerseys, the flags, the faces painted with red and gold, I knew this was home,' he said.

'Somehow, even in the West of India, it felt like we were back at the Chinnaswamy. What I witnessed was not just a cricket match but a culmination. A culmination of belief, heart breaks, near misses, miracles and an undying loyalty that no trophy until now had been able to reward.'
'But last night, it happened. RCB, the team that became family to me, are champions of the IPL. It feels good to say that it was a moment I had dreamed of. But even in these wildest dreams, I couldn't have imagined it. This perfect. The foundation of this franchise, the leadership, the passion, the people behind the scenes should never stop working. The fans should never stop believing all came together like never before. That's what made this so much more than just a victory. And then, as if the night hadn't already stirred every emotion, there was Virat standing at long-off right in front of me. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and that was all it took. We didn't need words. In that quiet exchange, everything was understood. The years, the near misses, the weight we both carried for this dream.'
'There were tears, yes, but more than that, there was a deep, unspoken knowing. We've shared countless innings, conversations and battles together. But the words he spoke after the game, the way he acknowledged our journey, contributions and shared memories, it touched a part of me that few things in this game ever have. That moment reminded me it's not about the numbers, it's about the connections. It's about what we leave behind in each other's stories. To see players like Rajat, Devdutt and even some of the newer faces who were just youngsters when I played, now stepping up on the biggest stage, it was surreal. I've seen their raw potential, their hunger in the nets, their excitement just to share a dressing room, and now they've turned that promise into history and I couldn't be prouder.'
'To the RCB management, to the coaching staff, to the ever-loyal fans, and to every single player who's worn this jersey, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful legacy. Even though I wasn't out there batting last night, a piece of my heart always will be. This title means more because of the journey that came before it, and for me, this will always be one of the greatest joys of my life – seeing the team I love finally lift that trophy with all my love, pride and gratitude, Your Mr. 360,'

"Can't Single Out..., It's Backstabbing": Shreyas Iyer Suffers Another Final Heartbreak After IPL

When it comes to finals, Shreyas Iyer 's luck doesn't seem to be on his side. Just 10 days after his side, Punjab Kings, suffered a defeat at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, Iyer was at the center of another runners-up show in the Mumbai T20 league. Iyer's side, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, were beaten by Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, with the batter himself failing to fire in the title-decider, much like what happened in the IPL final. Batting first, the Falcons could only put 157 runs on the board, with Mayuresh Tandel (50) and Harsh Aghav (45) being the top-scoring batters for the team. Iyer could only score 12 off 17 balls while Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, also faltered, scoring 7 runs in 12 balls. Chasing the target, the Maratha Royals saw Chinmay Rajesh Sutar and Awais Khan Naushad lead the run chase, scoring 53 and 38 respectively. The Maratha Royals chased down the target with 4 balls to spare. After the game, a heartbroken Iyer said that he didn't want to single anyone out for the defeat as that's 'backstabbing'. "Don't want to pinpoint any particular incident. Overall, the boys were brilliant with their efforts. We lost just one game en route to the final. Just a one-off game where you can't single out anyone - it's basically backstabbing, and I don't enjoy that. We've learnt a lot. "It's pretty common to feel dejected after a final loss. It must hurt them. But when they come back next year, they'll have that extra motivation and confidence. They should be proud of their effort," he added. Indian cricket icon Rohit Sharma was also present at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the final, and even gave the runners-up medal to Iyer after his team endured a defeat. Harbhajan Singh backs THIS 24-year-old to bat in place of Shubman Gill in Test series vs England

Harbhajan Singh backs THIS 24-year-old to bat in place of Shubman Gill in Test series vs England Following Virat Kohli's retirement, Shubman Gill's batting position is anticipated to shift to number four. Consequently, a replacement is needed for the number three spot. Although Karun Nair is a strong contender, Harbhajan Singh has suggested an alternative candidate. By Jeet Banerjee Edited by Jeet Banerjee Advertisement Shubman Gill. New Delhi: This five-match Test series against England will be the beginning of the World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign by India. The team will be very different after the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. New Captain Shubman Gill is likely to come in at number four. Karun Nair, having scored runs in the warm-up games against the England Lions, is a possibility at number three, although Harbhajan Singh has indicated otherwise. Harbhajan Singh wants Sai Sudharsan to be promoted to bat at number three in an interview with IANS, explaining that he is a left-handed batsman and is in tremendous form recently, having won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025. Advertisement === 'In my opinion, Sai Sudharsan should play at No.3. He's a left-hander, in top form, and just came off a very impressive IPL. His technique is sound, and I believe he could be the solution at that position,' Harbhajan said. Harbhajan Singh showed great concern with the big challenge that the England tour has to offer to the newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, especially due to the lack of experienced players in the team. Advertisement === 'Gill is a new captain, and the team is quite young — there's no Rohit, Virat, Pujara, or even Ajinkya Rahane. It's going to be challenging, but I expect our youngsters to rise to the occasion and perform well,' the former India spinner added. AB de Villiers Wrote Letter To RCB Family On June 04, Has Finally Shared It

An icon in the global cricketing spectrum, AB de Villiers was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 03 as his former franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifted its maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title. As RCB beat the Gujarat Titans in the final, the 18-year-long agony finally came to an end. The next day, en route to South Africa on the flight, De Villiers wrote a letter for RCB fans that probably couldn't be shared because of the stampede in Bengaluru that saw 11 people lose their lives. However, the South African legend finally decided to share the contents of the letter on June 12. De Villiers celebrated with RCB players, especially Virat Kohli in Ahmedabad, as the franchise got its hands on the trophy. In his letter, De Villiers recalled the heartbreaks, near-misses, emotions that RCB and their fans went through over the years. "Dear RCB family, Last night was something words will never fully do justice to, but I will try, because the heart deserves to speak when it is full.
