Op Sindoor paused after Pakistan requested for ceasefire: Rajnath Singh
NEW DELHI: Operation Sindoor is the natural progression of the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes in Pakistan, and it was conducted in a manner that forced Islamabad to ask for a ceasefire, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday, articulating India's firm resolve to fight terrorism. 'It was executed in such a way that Pakistan requested for a ceasefire, and only then have we put a pause to the operation. As I have said earlier, Operation Sindoor is not over yet. India is fully prepared to take all kinds of action against terrorism,' Singh said at an International Yoga Day function organised by the army in Udhampur.
The army's Northern Command based in Udhampur is the nerve centre of counterterrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
India launched the operation in the early hours of May 7 and struck terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following the Pahalgam terror strike in which 26 people were shot dead. It triggered a four-day military confrontation with Pakistan involving fighter jets, missiles, drones, long-range weapons and heavy artillery before the two sides reached an understanding on stopping all military action on May 10.
Singh led the armed forces' yoga day celebrations, with around 2,500 soldiers taking part in the Northern Command event. Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Northern Army commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma were present.
'Yoga gives clarity to the people in chaos. It is an art, a science, a philosophy, and spirituality. Those who practise yoga in their daily lives have control over their body and mind. It makes us proactive, not reactive,' he said in his address, describing Operation Sindoor as a shining example of that 'control.'
The Indian armed forces showed restraint, balance and precision during the operation, which is a reflection of their inner strength attained by practising yoga, he said. The operation was a clear message to Pakistan that it will face the consequences for supporting terror activities against India, he said.
Pakistan wants to weaken India from within, but it should never forget that just like Major Somnath Sharma, Brigadier Mohammad Usman too sacrificed his life for the unity and integrity of the country, Singh said referring to the bravehearts who fought valiantly during the 1947-48 India-Pakistan war. Sharma and Usman were posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra and the Maha Vir Chakra, respectively --- the country's highest and second highest wartime honours.

Announcement on defence equipment factory in Salem soon, says union minister H D Kumaraswamy
Salem: Union steel and heavy industries minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday said an announcement regarding the establishment of a defence equipment manufacturing factory on the premises of Salem Steel Plant would be made soon. "The proposal is currently in the early stages of discussion. A formal announcement in this regard will be made in the next four to five months," he said after attending the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Salem Steel Plant, where he did various yoga asanas along with the plant officials, members of trade unions and employees. Addressing the media, he commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting yoga across the globe and inspiring people. He said efforts were on to revitalize the Salem Steel Plant on the technical and marketing fronts. "In the 2003-2004 financial year, the plant was profitable. However, the profitability has since declined. The primary goal is to redevelop the plant and restore its profitability by developing various new products." Referring to the one nation, one election policy, Kumaraswamy said the BJP was not fostering division, but promoting unity within the country. "The BJP's goal is to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu, and the party is actively working to achieve this goal. Hence, some regional parties are criticizing the BJP." On Friday, the Union minister had planted a sapling on the Salem Steel Plant premises and toured the entire facility. He had also met the representatives of labour unions and promised to address their concerns.

Hundreds join chief minister on Int'l Yoga Day in Jaisalmer
Jaipur/Jaisalmer: Despite bad weather, hundreds joined chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma at the state-level International Yoga Day programme on the sand dunes of Khuri, Jaisalmer, about 45 km from the city. Rain disrupted yoga programmes in many districts, including Bharatpur, Pali, Bhilwara, Udaipur, and Kota forcing venue changes in many places. In Chittorgarh, yoga practice lasted only about 15 minutes due to the downpour. At Jaipur's SMS Stadium, Governor Haribhau Bagde, Lok Sabha MP Manju Sharma, deputy CM Premchand Bairwa, BJP state president Madan Rathore, and several public representatives participated in the Yoga Day event. Deputy CM Diya Kumari performed yoga at a camp at the City Palace. Extending greetings to the people of the state on Yoga Day, CM Sharma said this year's Yoga Day theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', conveys the strong connection between individual and environmental health. As a result, Rajasthan ranks first in the country with approximately 2.25 lakh registrations for the Yoga Sangam programme. With the participation of 1.2 crore people, Rajasthan topped the country on the Yoga Connect Portal. It also achieved a milestone by conducting yoga sessions at over 1,30,000 locations. Sharma also said efforts are being made to bring Indus water to Rajasthan. "Plans are underway to stop the water going to Pakistan and bring the water of the Indus-Chenab to Rajasthan," he said. Sharma departed from the Khuri helipad in Jaisalmer for the Tanot Mata temple, where he offered prayers. He also paid tribute to martyrs at Vijay Stambh, following which, he interacted with soldiers. He then proceeded to Jaisalmer, where he participated in a public hearing programme at the Circuit House.
