Meghan Trainor seeks medical help over pain from mysterious burning tongue syndrome: 'A little concerned'
The pop star opened up on a new episode of the Workin' On It podcast that she recently sought medical help for a mysterious condition called burning tongue syndrome, after she experienced sustained pain on the tip of her tongue with no apparent cause.
"I'm sick. Yet again. But, I'm not on antibiotics, I'm going to fight it," 31-year-old said at the top of the show, indicating she was also battling a cold that passed through her home, from her husband, Daryl Sabara, to their son, Barry.
She later explained that her "tongue is still burning" for an unknown reason, and that she went to a dentist to help her.
"If anyone knows why my tip of my tongue is burning with no white patches or anything — you can barely see anything," the "All About That Bass" singer said, indicating that the dentist told her of the condition.
She added that she's been "doing the mouthwash more than four times a day" to find relief, but it's not working.
"You do it as needed it's not helping. It's not working. I'm on day three. She goes, 'My last patient said after two swishes, she was fine, so you'll heal right up,'" Trainor recalled. "I'm like, I'm on day three, so when's the healing right up gonna happen?"
She also told the audience that she's "a little concerned" and "a little worried" at her tongue's lack of progress on the matter.
While the Mayo Clinic doesn't specifically list a disorder called burning tongue syndrome, it does highlight another called burning mouth syndrome. The organization describes it as "ongoing or recurring burning in the mouth without an obvious cause" on the "tongue, gums, lips, inside of your cheeks, roof of your mouth or large areas of your whole mouth." It also notes that the pain is comparable to a feeling "as if you injured your mouth with a very hot drink."
Trainor said that she's treading carefully, as she's not sure why she's enduring difficulties with health conditions as of late.
"I'm having a great time in life other than this. My body's just mad at me and I don't know why," she said. "I'm so tired. I'm trying everything. I'm gluten free, I'm dairy free, I'm egg yolk free."
She finished by saying, "I'm like, I feel incredible, but my immune system does not feel incredible."
Trainor also previously shared details of her home life with Sabara on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast in 2024, telling the host that the couple share a peculiar two-toilet space in their bathroom, but that she planned on improving it when they moved to a new home.'We're moving into a new house, and it has a toilet facing this way, and a bidet across from it,' she said at the time. 'So I need to make this [bidet] a toilet. So it's gonna be a little different, but it's a tighter bathroom area, so we will be close. Knees to knees.'

Keller: Are Americans going dry? Why there's some benefits to responsible drinking
A new Gallup poll finds the percent of American adults who say they drink alcohol has dropped its lowest point in nearly a century. But while health issues are driving some of the decline, we spoke with two experts who say there are risks to abstaining as well. The 54% who said they drink even sparingly is down from the record highs in the 70s of 50 years ago. When drinking gets out of control, it's a given that trouble can follow. And the Gallup poll shows the decline in drinking is tied to mounting concerns over its impact on health, especially among young adults. But there's another, more positive side to responsible drinking - the social and cultural benefits of bonding with others "where everybody knows your name." "It just makes people feel part of something, and when that gets lost people feel a little isolated," said Maureen Nuccitelli of Watertown, a former bartender turned wellness coach. She said modestly-relaxed inhibitions and the company of friendly others can be a key part of a well-balanced lifestyle. "Sharing a few laughs really helps people lower their stress response and release some of those feelgood hormones and chemicals." The poll suggests at least some young adults may be eschewing alcohol in favor of marijuana. But British drinking culture expert Jane Peyton, founder of the online School of Booze, said, "If you're smoking a joint or if you're eating a gummy, you don't cheers anybody first before you do it." Peyton said it's no surprise that socializing via phone or social media and using marijuana don't provide the bonding experience that responsible alcohol use can. "We need somewhere that we can go as a community or go in a group, be with other people, and a bar or a pub is a perfect place to do that," said Peyton. In fact, said Peyton, in pub culture, the alcohol is beside the point. "If you just drink it moderately and enjoy it, you get the best out of it. So the thing to do with alcohol is get the best out of alcohol and don't let it get the best out of you." Will drinking fade away like cigarette smoking did, now practiced by less than 12% of the population? That's hard to believe, given that it's been a habit for more than 13,000 years and remains the second-most popular drug in the world, trailing only caffeine. It was telling that churches, schools, even public parks were shut down when COVID hit, but not the liquor stores. The question brings to mind a famous polka song that may offer an answer: "In heaven there is no beer/That's why we drink it here."

Genesis Creditors Accuse Nursing Home Owner of ‘Rinse and Repeat' Bankruptcies
Personal-injury claimants alleged that bankrupt nursing home chain Genesis Healthcare is trying to cleanse itself of tort liabilities in chapter 11 before its private-equity investor who controls Genesis buys the company's assets back on the cheap. In recent court filings, lawyers for tort claimants alleged that healthcare and real-estate investor Joel Landau who controls Genesis and other company insiders are attempting to use a $30 million proposed loan to control the chapter 11 process and buy its 175 skilled nursing facilities out of bankruptcy free and clear of past liabilities.
