Katherine Ryan sports £27 high street mascara shoppers praise as 'the best ever'

Daily Record16-06-2025
Comedian Katherine Ryan is currently pregnant with her second child but she's still finding time to share her favourite beauty products - and it seems she's finally found 'the one' when it comes to mascara
Katherine Ryan, known for her comedic chops on shows like Would I Lie To You?, seems to be eyeing a side gig as a beauty influencer. The television favourite has been dishing out beauty tips, and her latest endorsement of a high street mascara is turning heads.
On TikTok, the comedian, who just announced her fourth pregnancy, shared an impressive before-and-after snapshot of her eyelashes, captioning it: "Am I the only one who puts mascara on by blinking slowly?"
Katherine revealed that mascara was one of the beauty staples where she rates high street products above designer brands. The focus of her TikTok was Benefit's They're Real Mascara, which Katherine hailed as "the ONE".
She said: "I've seen a lot of mascara reviews on here, and I know I'm going to get in trouble in a minute because it is 7.56 pm and I'm on stage in four minutes, but I'm ready as soon as I get on."
She clarified her stance, saying: "I don't have an affiliate link and I'm not selling anything, but I use some designer make-up products but never mascara. For some reason, I think high street ones are better. This is Benefit They're Real."
Katherine also mentioned her preference for high street mascaras that "don't flake" and her fondness for mini versions for ease of travel, reports the Mirror.
If you're tempted by Katherine's lash transformation, the mini mascara is available for £15 at Selfridges, or take advantage of LookFantastic's current deal offering a full-size They're Real Mascara plus a travel-sized one for £27 (valued at £42).
Katherine's TikTok fans are eager to pop the mascara into their virtual baskets after witnessing her lashes adorned with a layer of the product.
One asked: "Katherine how the hell are your lashes that long??"
Another expressed her fondness for the Benefit product, commenting: "Nothing beats Benefit mascara!", while another added: "I've loved Benefit mascara for the longest time."
One more fan enthused: "This is the best mascara ever. I've used it for years. Can't beat it."
"I shall NEVER return to my old drug store mascara... Benefit has my heart," a final user declared.
The mascara itself boasts a formula designed to elongate and amplify lashes for a faux-lash effect, offering up to 36 hours of wear that resists smudging, transferring, and flaking, as Katherine attests.
Yet, some of her followers argue that a £15 mascara – even a mini – doesn't quite fit the high street bill.
For those seeking a recommendation under £10, there are plenty of alternatives being suggested.
One TikToker recommends Maybelline's Sky High Mascara, currently available on Amazon for £8. Others are vouching for L'Oreal's renowned Telescopic Mascara, which is on sale for £9.59 at present.

Liam Neeson 'madly in love' with Pamela Anderson as couple spark romance rumours

The pair star together in the new Naked Gun film. The tight connection between Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson has sparked global speculation as the duo remain tight-lipped about whether romance is blossoming between them. ‌ However, it appears the signs were there as early as last year when the Taken actor openly proclaimed his affection for the former Baywatch beauty. Speaking to People magazine, Liam, 73, openly admitted to being "madly in love" with the mother of two, reports the Mirror. ‌ During the chat, he revealed: "With Pamela, first off, I'm madly in love with her." ‌ He continued: "She's just terrific to work with. I can't compliment her enough, I'll be honest with you. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film." Responding to his praise, Pamela, who became a pin-up sensation during her iconic run on the nineties hit Baywatch, described him as "the perfect gentleman". ‌ She continued: "He brings out the best in respect, kindness, and depth of experience. It was an absolute honour to work with him." Whilst the pair have been cautious to focus solely on their professional partnership, Pamela accidentally revealed their connection extended beyond the workplace when she mentioned preparing meals for him. In May, she disclosed: "I also baked my sourdough bread for therapy and regularly shared with him [Liam], along with cookies and muffins." She revealed that she would leave her homemade treats in his dressing room. The pair also socialised beyond the film set. ‌ She went on: "We had many dinners out with the cast. I invited him and his assistant over for romantic dinners with me and my assistant so our relationship stayed 'professionally romantic' during filming." Their undeniable connection was evident when they attended The Naked Gun premiere in both London and Berlin. At the London premiere, Pamela sparked romance rumours when she gave Liam a kiss on the cheek. ‌ However, it was during their Berlin promotional tour that really got people talking when they recreated the famous Titanic scene. On social media, Pamela and Liam's tight friendship was obvious as they larked about on a boat. In the clip shared with followers, Pamela channelled Rose, portrayed by Kate Winslet, whilst Liam supported her waist in the style of Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Pamela looked stunning in a green dress paired with a coordinating neck scarf. She wrote alongside the footage: "From the London to Berlin... this tour has been full of smiles, laughter, and so much love... Thank you to everyone who came out to giggle with us (and watch on the big screen). NYC next!"

Sydney Sweeney's jeans ad sparks backlash over 'eugenics-coded' messaging

Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad has fans divided with some saying it's cheeky while others claim it echoes a darker beauty ideal rooted in eugenics. But is it just about jeans, or something deeper Sydney Sweeney's recent jeans advert has sparked furious backlash over its 'eugenics-coded' messaging. The Euphoria star recently teamed up with popular brand American Eagle for their Fall 2025 campaign and while the ad first appeared cheeky and light-hearted, fans are picking up on deeper racial and genetic undertones. ‌ In the ad, Sydney says: 'Genes are passed down from parent to offspring, often determining traits from hair colour to personality and even eye colour - my genes are blue.' ‌ A voiceover then adds: 'Sydney Sweeney has great genes." In the US, American Eagle's billboard ads show the word 'genes' crossed out and replaced with 'jeans'. The controversial ad comes amidst the release of adult content creator Bonnie Blue's Channel 4 documentary. ‌ While some think the campaign is harmless, many say it taps into the ideology of eugenics - the belief that the human race could be 'improved' by increasing the presence of traits considered desirable, traits historically linked to whiteness. Eugenics was developed in the late 19th century by Sir Francis Galton, and later used to justify discrimination against minority groups and people with disabilities. Although the ideology is now widely condemned, it helped lay the groundwork for how society continues to define beauty and value. ‌ At the time of writing, the ad appears to have been pulled following mounting backlash but it hasn't stopped the flood of reactions online. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ But TikTok users are far more divided. One influencer said: 'If you're not media illiterate, you probably think this is harmless. However, this perpetuates a long line of racism and eugenics that has been present in not just America but all over the world.' 'In the extremely conservative climate we're in today where right-wing, white nationalism and patriotism is rising, this advert is a dog whistle to the racists out there, confirming their way of thinking and way of life is correct.' Another TikTok user agreed, while comparing old eugenics ads to the American Eagle Campaign saying "Through certain types of imagery we can very much tell that this is a eugenics ad, this ad subliminally encourages the reader to reproduce with a certain type of woman." ‌ "I would even say that Sydney Sweeney's ad is more direct than these two, the highly sexualised ad to reframe the viewer's mind of what ideal genes are." On the other hand, an X user wrote: "The backlash to Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad campaign is just insane. My God, you can like the ad or not, but there's nothing racist about it.' ‌ A TikTok user agreed with the above comment saying "If Sydney Sweeney was ugly, you'd have no problem with her saying she has good genes - you'd be saying, yes girl!" The backlash has also reignited a wider conversation about beauty standards in marketing and how brands, even unintentionally, risk reinforcing outdated ideals through careless copy and campaign choices. As the fallout continues, sources close to the company told TMZ that the online backlash is "absurd." The insider said that, according to their independent polling, many actually like their ad. According to TMZ, 71% of the people who AE polled found the infamous Sydney jean ad to be "appealing." ‌ In response to the negative reaction to the ad, the source said: "This is yet another example of how social media is just not reflective of real life. The absurd response from some corners of the internet is absolutely not reflective of how American Eagle's customers feel. "The bottom line is that this was about creating a great pair of jeans and supporting a very worthy cause through some of the proceeds going to domestic violence prevention. Anything beyond that is noise that is not registering with the average person. "Regardless of how people feel about the ad, we hope they can agree we should be doing more to support and empower those who are experiencing domestic violence." The insider, according to American Eagle, is not a representative for the company. The Mirror requested further comment from American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney.
