VIENNA (WAM)Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasised the importance of the UAE's role in the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the OPEC+.He affirmed the UAE's support for all decisions made by the OPEC+ with the aim of achieving balance and stability in global oil markets. In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sideline of his participation in the 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna, Al Mazrouei underlined that the UAE's policy supports OPEC+ decisions, and commended the wise leadership of the UAE for adopting a strategy that aims to boost the country's production capacity. He noted that this increased production capacity will be introduced into the market at the appropriate time when demand arises, stressing that such an expansion will act as a stabilising factor for markets and oil prices. He expressed satisfaction with OPEC's gradual return to the markets, highlighting that this return has not negatively impacted price stability. This, he said, proves that the organisation and the OPEC+ group are fully aware of market demands. He also projected that the group's share would increase due to anticipated investments by member countries such as the UAE, which has invested significantly in expanding its production capacity. He explained that the gradual production increases have been carefully planned, and have positively contributed to reinforcing balance and stabilising prices at near-steady levels, with a slight rise that reflects an improvement in global oil demand. He commended the pivotal role played by the OPEC+ in maintaining the stability of the global oil market, stating: 'We believe this alliance plays a significant role.'
He further noted that the relevant ministers and committees meet on a monthly basis to review and assess market demands and take appropriate decisions collectively as a group rather than as individual countries.

Opec+ makes another large oil output hike in market share push

Opec+ agreed on Sunday to raise oil production by 547,000 barrels per day for September, the latest in a series of accelerated output hikes to regain market share, as concerns mount over potential supply disruptions linked to Russia. The move marks a full and early reversal of Opec+'s largest tranche of output cuts plus a separate increase in output for the UAE amounting to about 2.5 million bpd, or about 2.4 per cent of world demand. Eight Opec+ members held a brief virtual meeting, amid increasing US pressure on India to halt Russian oil purchases — part of Washington's efforts to bring Moscow to the negotiating table for a peace deal with Ukraine. President Donald Trump said he wants this by August 8. In a statement following the meeting, Opec+ cited a healthy economy and low stocks as reasons behind its decision. Oil prices have remained elevated even as Opec+ has raised output, with Brent crude closing near $70 a barrel on Friday, up from a 2025 low of near $58 in April, supported in part by rising seasonal demand. 'Given fairly strong oil prices at around $70, it does give Opec+ some confidence about market fundamentals,' said Amrita Sen, co-founder of Energy Aspects, adding that the market structure was also indicating tight stocks. The eight countries are scheduled to meet again on September 7, when they may consider reinstating another layer of output cuts totalling around 1.65 million bpd, two Opec+ sources said following Sunday's meeting. Those cuts are currently in place until the end of next year. Opec+ in full includes 10 non-Opec oil producing countries, most notably Russia and Kazakhstan. The group, which pumps about half of the world's oil, had been curtailing production for several years to support oil prices. It reversed course this year in a bid to regain market share, spurred in part by calls from Trump for Opec to ramp up production. The eight began raising output in April with a modest hike of 138,000 bpd, followed by larger-than-planned hikes of 411,000 bpd in May, June and July, 548,000 bpd in August and now 547,000 bpd for September. 'So far the market has been able to absorb very well those additional barrels also due to stockpiliing activity in China,' said Giovanni Staunovo of UBS. 'All eyes will now shift on the Trump decision on Russia this Friday.' As well as the voluntary cut of about 1.65 million bpd from the eight members, Opec+ still has a 2-million-bpd cut across all members, which also expires at the end of 2026. 'Opec+ has passed the first test,' said Jorge Leon of Rystad Energy and a former Opec official, as it has fully reversed its largest cut without crashing prices. 'But the next task will be even harder: deciding if and when to unwind the remaining 1.66 million barrels, all while navigating geopolitical tension and preserving cohesion.'

Opec+ agrees to 547,000 bpd oil output increase for September

Opec+ has agreed to increase its oil production by 547,000 barrels per day for September, as the alliance of oil producers led by Saudi Arabia and Russia continues to unwind voluntary cuts introduced during the pandemic. "The eight participating countries will implement a production adjustment of 547 thousand barrels per day in September 2025 from August 2025 required production level," the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) stated in a press release on Sunday. The decision marks the sixth month in a row the group has raised output as it gradually restores 2.2 million barrels a day of supply that was withheld from the market. The alliance previously approved monthly rises of 138,000 barrels a day in April and 411,000 barrels a day for May, June and July. Last month, Opec+ announced a larger-than-expected increase of 548,000 barrels a day for August, accelerating the pace of its phased supply return. Policy and market fundamentals Since December 2024, Opec+ has maintained that it would gradually and flexibly unwind its voluntary cuts beginning in April 2025. In past statements, the group cited a steady global economic outlook, healthy market fundamentals and low oil inventories as reasons for restoring output. Opec+ has reiterated that future increases can be paused or reversed if market conditions deteriorate, to maintain oil market stability. The return of production cuts – originally agreed by eight Opec+ members including Saudi Arabia, Russia, the UAE and Iraq in November 2023 – had been pushed back several times amid concerns about growing supply in the market. The next gathering will take place on September 7. Added pressures Oil prices dropped on Friday after a weaker-than-expected US jobs report and tariffs announcements weighed on prospects for energy demand growth. The Labour Department employment report for July put employment growth at a much lower level than expected, at 73,000 jobs. Markets had expected a gain of 100,000. Brent, the benchmark for two-thirds of the world's oil, dropped 2.83 per cent to $69.67 a barrel at the market close on Friday, while West Texas Intermediate, the gauge that tracks US crude, fell 2.79 per cent to settle at $67.33 a barrel on Friday, its biggest drop in a single day since June 24. Recent geopolitical tensions have added to oil market volatility this year. A 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran earlier this year drove oil prices up by more than 13 per cent before they retreated below pre-war levels. Opec+ is scheduled to meet again in October to decide on output levels for that month.
