Why Did Heidi Klum Leave ‘Project Runway'?

Yahoo30-07-2025
For the first time in eight years, Heidi Klum is back as a judge on Project Runway for Season 21. The supermodel previously left the show after 16 seasons, but now she's back where she belongs.
This season, she'll be judging alongside Nina Garcia and Law Roach, with Christian Siriano returning as mentor to the contestants (he joined the show in Season 17 after Tim Gunn left with Klum). Ahead of the premiere on Thursday, July 31, scroll down for a refresher on Klum's exit and why she was ready to return.
Why did Heidi Klum leave Project Runway?
Klum and Gunn decided to leave Project Runway to create their own show, Making the Cut, which ended up airing for three seasons from 2020 to 2022.
'Our imagination was bigger than what we were allowed to do,' the supermodel said in 2020, per The Hollywood Reporter. 'Everything kind of fell apart.' Klum said she asked Gunn, 'Do you want to jump ship with me?' and described the time as 'scary,' adding, 'We shopped it around and thought Amazon was the best place, not only for the show, but also for the designers.'
Klum also said that she wanted to start changing up the format at Project Runway, but wasn't given the opportunity to do so. 'We couldn't break out of it because there was a fear,' she admitted. 'Not among us, we're the ones who were thinking creatively and innovatively about what we wanted to do.'
Gunn expanded on the decision in an interview with Variety. '[We] saw the opportunity of Amazon as a brand new threshold because we were in lockstep with [Project Runway],' he explained. We were stuck with the same vocabulary. We were stuck with the same sequence of events within the show.'
They left on good terms, though. And also, full transparency about Making the Cut and where we are today, it wouldn't have happened without Project Runway,' Gunn confirmed. 'So for Heidi and me, there's a lot of love and respect we'll always have.'
Why isn't Tim Gunn returning to Project Runway?
Gunn will not be by Klum's side when she returns to the show. In February, he told People that he and Klum had been discussing returning to the show last year. 'Heidi sent me a text saying, 'There's talk about bringing Project Runway back with us, with you and me, and would you do it?' And I said, 'Would I do it? Of course, there's not a moment of hesitation in me,'' Gunn shared.
However, 'several months later,' when Klum asked him if he was happy with the contract he received, he told her, 'I haven't even seen a contract.' At that point, his agent contact the show's executive producers and was allegedly told, 'We don't want him.'
He clarified, 'So I wasn't asked back. However, several weeks after that conversation, they went back to [my agent] and said, 'Well, we've thought about it, and we'd be willing to offer Tim a small cameo in one episode.''
Amazon
For that offer, he wasn't willing to return. 'What do I do? Wave from a bus?' he wondered. 'As the designers are going into Mood? Heidi comes to see me at the retirement home and we play croquet? So no thank you. And as Heidi would say, 'You're either in, or you're out,' and I'm out. So I wasn't asked to join.'
Although Gunn said he was 'initially devastated and kind of humiliated,' he's come to terms with the decision
Are Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn friends?
Yes, the former colleagues are still friends today. Gunn said Klum has been nothing but supportive amid her return to the show without him. 'She was really upset and she kept saying, 'I'm fighting for you, I'm fighting for you,'' he shared. 'Which is lovely of her and nothing that I should expect. And I said, 'Heidi, just take good care of yourself. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine.''
Ahead of the new season, Klum also told People, 'Of course I miss him, he has been my television husband, and it all started with him. We just became this odd couple that people enjoyed watching, and 17 years later, we did so many amazing episodes together. So for me, yes, of course I'm going to miss him.'

'Devil Wears Prada 2' photos tease Anne Hathaway's possible love interest

Andy Sachs has officially left the "lumpy blue sweater" behind. Photos from the set of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" may offer some insight into the big-city life of Anne Hathaway's character two decades after the beloved original book adaptation came out on June 30, 2006. In photos captured Aug. 5 on the streets of Brooklyn, Hathaway, 42, is seen getting cozy with a new costar, "Colin from Accounts" actor/creator Patrick Brammall. Hathaway, whose character Andy is presumably out from under the thumb of "Runway" magazine overlord Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), dons a glittery blue, shin-length Rabanne dress from the designer's 2026 cruise collection. Perhaps an ode to the cerulean sweater that prompted Priestly's long-winded rant in the original film? That remains to be seen. It's unclear what character Brammall, 49, plays in the sequel. The Australian actor is married to "Colin from Accounts" costar and co-creator Harriet Dyer. In the first "Devil Wears Prada," Andy's love life is largely a casualty as her job as Priestly's second assistant takes precedence. She lives with her boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), but the two ultimately are unable to find middle ground as Andy develops an edge while working in the cutthroat fashion world. She also dabbles in a romance with journalist Christian Thompson (Simon Baker), which doesn't pan out. Details of the highly anticipated sequel are scant while it's in production, but fans have for weeks dissected the characters' fashion, as captured in paparazzi photos. "The Devil Wears Prada," based on the book of the same name, grossed more than $325 million at the worldwide box office and earned Streep an Academy Award nomination for best actress. 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' cast Among the returning stars are Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux and B.J. Novak flesh out the cast, according to Variety and People. Undoubtedly bringing comic relief, "Sex Lives of College Girls" actress Pauline Chalamet will also appear, according to the outlets. The film has also brought in Broadway talent, with "Maybe Happy Ending" star Helen J. Shen and "Oh, Mary!" actor Conrad Ricamora confirmed, per Variety. The halls of Runway won't be missing familiar faces, though. Tracie Thoms, who played Lily, Hathaway's best friend, will reprise her character, as will Tibor Feldman, who portrayed media executive Irv Ravitz. David Frankel, director of the original "Devil Wears Prada," is returning for the sequel, and the first movie's screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is writing the script. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" will give Hathaway the opportunity to revisit one of her most iconic early roles, 20 years later. The first movie hit theaters just five years after she made her film debut with 2001's "The Princess Diaries." When will 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' come out? "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is set for release on May 1, 2026. Contributing: Brendan Morrow and Anna Kaufman, USA TODAY

A 15-year old made millions from a card game he invented at age 7. He just sold it to a major toy company

PlayMonster games has bought Taco vs. Burrito for an undisclosed amount. The game was invented by a 7-year old, who, with his parents' help, has steer it to over 1.5 million sold units. Creator Alex Butler says, despite its success, 'It was never something that I've been attached to or anything.' Alex Butler was just seven years old when he made his first million dollars. A game he had invented, called Taco vs Burrito, had made it to Amazon—and by the end of 2018, it had rung up sales of about $1.1 million. Now, after overseeing the game's empire with his parents, Butler has sold the rights to the game to PlayMonster, whose other well-known products include Spirograph, Farkle, and Yeti in my Spaghetti. Terms of the deal were not announced, but Taco vs. Burrito (which retails for $20 on Amazon) has sold 1.5 million copies life to date. The game also has two expansion packs. PlayMonster says it will continue to expand the game and a version in a collector's tin is coming later this year. Butler, who is now 15, says he's not especially sad to see his creation move on. It was, he says, never really something he wanted to keep doing for the rest of his life. 'It was never something that I've been attached to or anything,' he told The Seattle Times. 'It's not super important to me. I just kind of wanted to get the most money out of it.' Alex's mother is an entrepreneur herself, so when her son came up with the idea after playing card games like Exploding Kittens, she encouraged him. The family would walk to the neighborhood coffee shop/hangout to test the prototype, which would lead to Alex coming up with a new take on the rules. To cover production costs, he mother launched an online fundraiser, which brought in $25,000. Alex's parents set up a holding company for the game (of which Alex was the majority owner), found a manufacturer, and put the game on Amazon. It quickly took off and never slowed down. While there have been buyout offers in the past, the family said they never felt right. When they began speaking with PlayMonster, things did. Don't expect another game anytime soon from Alex, though. His interests have shifted to music production, sports, and video games, he says.
