Vikings steal Packers legend away from division rival in 2006 re-draft by PFF
Pro Football Focus is the home to so many good ideas and plenty of data that allows new ideas to populate football fans' heads. Their advanced data has allowed the game of football to take a critical step, and now they are taking that data and applying it to a new exercise: re-drafting.
They want to re-draft some classic NFL drafts with the data they now have at their disposal, and the first up is the 2006 class.
The Vikings originally selected Chad Greenway 17th overall that year, and he was a fan favorite for years. In this re-draft, though, Minnesota takes a different route and takes away from their division rival the Green Bay Packers by getting Greg Jennings.
PFF writes up the steal of Jennings, saying, "As Minnesota was trying to transition at quarterback from veteran Brad Johnson to the youngster Tarvaris Jackson, they needed another weapon in the passing game. They select former Green Bay Packer Greg Jennings here before he can torture them for the next seven years. At the peak of his powers, Jennings turned in three seasons with more than 1,100 receiving yards and eight consecutive seasons with at least a 71.0 PFF receiving grade."
Chad Greenway does not end up going in round one of this hypothetical re-draft, so for the sake of Vikings fans, we can pretend he ended up in Minnesota anyway. It is fun to see, though, that the Vikings take away from Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Patriots vet issues warning to team ahead of Vikings joint practice
This week is an NFL homecoming of sorts for New England Patriots center Garrett Bradbury, who returns to Minnesota to face off against his former Vikings teammates. Flores spent 14 years with the Patriots, working his way up from a scouting assistant to linebackers coach and defensive playcaller in Super Bowl LIII. Lynx become first WNBA team to secure playoff berth ahead of showdowns with champion Liberty
The Minnesota Lynx are in the playoffs. And they didn't need a win Tuesday night to clinch their spot. In fact, they didn't even play. The Lynx became the first team to clinch a WNBA playoff spot this season thanks to the Indiana Fever's 81-80 loss to the Dallas Wings. As of Tuesday, the 27-5 Lynx hold a 6.5-game lead over both the New York Liberty and the Atlanta Dream for the best record in the league with 12 games left in the regular season. And they've won three straight games without All-Star and MVP favorite Napheesa Collier, who remains sidelined with a sprained ankle that's expected to sideline her through Saturday's game against the Liberty at a minimum. The Lynx already defeated the Liberty on Sunday without Collier. They face two more consecutive games against the Liberty on Saturday and Tuesday. After that, they face another test in a road game against the Dream on Aug 21. Those games will mark Atlanta's and New York's best long-shot chances of chipping away at Minnesota's lead in the standings. The Lynx will enter the playoffs seeking to advance to the WNBA Finals for a second consecutive season. Last season, they lost to the Liberty in tightly contested five-game series. This time, they'll look to have home-court advantage secured against whatever opponent they face if they advance to the Finals again.

Judge homers, Stanton goes 4 for 5 with a homer, as Yankees rout Twins 9-1
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his first homer in nearly three weeks, Giancarlo Stanton had his first four-hit game in nearly two years, and the New York Yankees routed the Minnesota Twins 9-1 on Tuesday night. Carlos Rodón (12-7) allowed one hit in seven innings. He allowed a leadoff single to Austin Martin and cruised after a 31-pitch first inning. He became the first Yankee to complete seven innings since the left-hander pitched eight against the Cubs on July 11. Stanton went 4 for 5 for his first four-hit game since Aug. 24, 2023 against Washington. He doubled in his first at-bat, homered in the fifth and singled in his final two at-bats before getting lifted for a pinch runner following a two-run single. Judge homered for the first time since July 23 when he hit a drive off Minnesota rookie starter Travis Adams (1-2). Anthony Volpe hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the second as the Yankees beat the Twins for the ninth straight time. Stanton added a homer in the fifth to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead. It was the second time this season Stanton and Judge connected in the same game and 54th time overall, including the playoffs. The Yankees won their third series since the All-Star break and won the first two games of a series for the first time since sweeping Seattle July 8-10. Adams allowed four runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings. Key Moment Rodón loaded the bases when he hit Ryan Jeffers and allowed a run on a ground ball by Royce Lewis in the first.
