Vikings steal Packers legend away from division rival in 2006 re-draft by PFF

Vikings steal Packers legend away from division rival in 2006 re-draft by PFF Pro Football Focus is the home to so many good ideas and plenty of data that allows new ideas to populate football fans' heads. Their advanced data has allowed the game of football to take a critical step, and now they are taking that data and applying it to a new exercise: re-drafting. They want to re-draft some classic NFL drafts with the data they now have at their disposal, and the first up is the 2006 class. The Vikings originally selected Chad Greenway 17th overall that year, and he was a fan favorite for years. In this re-draft, though, Minnesota takes a different route and takes away from their division rival the Green Bay Packers by getting Greg Jennings. PFF writes up the steal of Jennings, saying, "As Minnesota was trying to transition at quarterback from veteran Brad Johnson to the youngster Tarvaris Jackson, they needed another weapon in the passing game. They select former Green Bay Packer Greg Jennings here before he can torture them for the next seven years. At the peak of his powers, Jennings turned in three seasons with more than 1,100 receiving yards and eight consecutive seasons with at least a 71.0 PFF receiving grade." Chad Greenway does not end up going in round one of this hypothetical re-draft, so for the sake of Vikings fans, we can pretend he ended up in Minnesota anyway. It is fun to see, though, that the Vikings take away from Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Community avoids catastrophe thanks to innovative projects in the surrounding landscape: 'Can make an even greater difference'

Restoration projects in North Carolina have been providing palpable benefits to residents in flooding season, according to BlueRidgeNow. Nonprofit Conserving Carolina has been remediating areas around waterways to build healthier floodplain ecosystems. This has included raising berms, creating pond off-shoots called sloughs, and planting native species. All of this work has provided an environment that can mitigate flooding before reaching people's homes downstream. Three restoration projects along the French Broad River contained 1.25 billion gallons of water from Tropical Storm Helene, according to their designer Greg Jennings. Residents have been thankful for the work. "I feel like the hard work y'all did kept our house on Mud Creek Road from flooding worse," said local homeowner Lisa Moffit. Even outside of a crisis situation, these habitat restorations are providing value. Floodplains are another filter, catching sediment that would otherwise go downstream. This improves water quality overall. Floodplains and wetlands are able to retain water when drought conditions are present, which is good news for local crops. The added geographic complexity also brings more wildlife to the areas. Workers have noted the quick return of some rare birds. That's a bonus for biodiversity and any sightseers. We've seen small-scale wetland restoration on private property, but proper legislative protections like the BEACH Act are needed for more large-scale support. Conserving Carolina still sees plenty of work to do ahead. "As we look ahead, the cumulative effect of more restoration projects like these can make an even greater difference," said David Lee, Conserving Carolina's Natural Resources Director, per BlueRidgeNow. "And we don't always have to do a full-scale restoration. We improve resilience every time we conserve the farmland and natural areas that already exist in the river corridor. Each conservation and restoration project contributes to a more resilient network of flood control that helps to safeguard both natural ecosystems and human communities." Greg Jennings praises former Bears CB Charles Tillman's impact on NFL

Greg Jennings praises former Bears CB Charles Tillman's impact on NFL The rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers has never lost the fire or aura of the matchup, even though it has recently been dominated by the Packers. Heading into the 2024 regular season finale, the Packers had won 11 straight games against the Bears, but that came to an end with the Bears' Week 18 upset over Green Bay to close out the season. As the culture and tone around the Bears continues to change, there have been more compliments from their rivals in Wisconsin, including past players. During last Sunday's NFC Championship Game, former great Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings took to social media to pay respect to former Bears legendary cornerback Charles Tillman. After a forced fumble in the Philadelphia Eagles-Washington Commanders game, Jennings asked the question if Tillman was the most influential cornerback in the past century. There was very little argument in the replies to Jennings' post, and while Tillman's place in history is up for debate, his numbers put him in an elite class of legendary cornerbacks. In 13 seasons in the NFL, Tillman forced 44 fumbles, tallied 38 interceptions, totaled 930 tackles, 140 passes defended, and scored eight touchdowns while playing for the Bears in 12 of those seasons and playing his final year with the Carolina Panthers. Tillman's name will always come out on broadcasts when there is a forced fumble, especially if it is the "Peanut Punch" type of force out. His place among the greats at his position will forever be up for debate, but the impact Tillman had will always be discussed.
