Mini-marathon in Andhra's Guntur to raise awareness on drug abuse
The Collector said the Central and State Governments are conducting a series of awareness programmes from June 1 to 26, ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. 'Through rallies, marathons, seminars, and competitions, we aim to educate the public, especially the youth, about the risks associated with drug abuse,' he said.
He added that departments including Police, Revenue, Excise, Health, and Education are working together to tackle the issue, and de-addiction centres provide treatment to affected individuals.
The SP noted that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2020, targets drug abuse at the grassroots level. The police, along with the Eagle Task Force, are involved in enforcement and awareness activities. Students and employees were also present.

Special squad formed to curb price rise, hoarding during Onam in Ernakulam
The district administration on Wednesday formed a special squad to prevent hoarding of commodities, food adulteration, and malpractices in weighing machines during the Onam season. The squad has officials from six departments, including Revenue, Public Distribution, Legal Metrology, Food Safety, Local Self Government and the police. The squad will inspect fuel bunks, LPG agencies, wholesale and retail outlets of groceries, and hotels. Price rise during festive seasons affects the common people the most. Hence, the squad will intensify inspections in the coming days, said District Collector G. Priyanka in a release. All shops and restaurants should exhibit legible price lists and issue statutory bills. Wholesalers should keep records of stock and sales, matching market data. Purchase bills must be kept at all wholesale and retail centres, the Collector said. She added that merchants should ensure the availability of vegetables and groceries in view of the higher demand during Onam, thus preventing price rise. The decisions were taken at a special meeting of officials chaired by the Collector. The meeting noted that commercial establishments must pay attention to observing the green protocol during Onam. Steps should be taken to prevent the inflow of plastic products to the market. Banned items such as leaf, tumblers, plates, and cutlery made of plastic should be avoided. Waste must be segregated at source, the meeting noted. District Supply Officer S.O. Bindu and representatives of traders attended the meet.

6 arrested as police bust inter-state cybercrime racket in Bihar
Last Updated: Motihari, Aug 20 (PTI) Six people were arrested as an inter-state cybercrime racket was busted in Bihar's East Champaran district, police said on Wednesday. Investigations revealed that the suspects duped several people through a wide array of cybercrimes, including fake loan offers, fraudulent electricity bill updates, job offers, and digital arrest, they said. 'The gang was involved in online fraud, involving high-value transactions through different bank accounts. Police have managed to secure Rs 1 crore from their accounts," SP Swarn Prabhat told PTI. 'All six cybercriminals were arrested in Motihari on Sunday. Several cases were registered against them in different states. We have identified 12 more cybercriminals associated with them. They will soon be nabbed," he said. The SP, however, did not reveal the identities of those arrested. PoP idols, DJs banned for Vinayaka Chaviti in W. Godavari
Authorities in West Godavari district have imposed a ban on Vinayaka idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and the use of DJ sound systems during the Vinayaka Chaviti celebrations. At a joint review meeting held on Wednesday by Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi, District Collector Ch. Nagarani directed officials to ensure that only clay idols are installed at pandals. The Collector announced that a single-window clearance would be given for the pandals. She emphasised that only devotional songs will be allowed to be play at the pandals to maintain a spiritual atmosphere. Mr. Nayeem Asmi has urged pandal organisers to immerse idols only at designated sites in the Godavari river and canals. He warned of strict action against organisers violating the guidelines or playing indecent music.
