Mini-marathon in Andhra's Guntur to raise awareness on drug abuse
GUNTUR: Guntur District In-charge Collector A Bhargav Tej and Superintendent of Police (SP) Satish Kumar flagged off a mini marathon on Sunday to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The event, held as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), saw participants run through Narasampalem and Mudu Bommalu Centre, finishing at Hindu College Circle.
The Collector said the Central and State Governments are conducting a series of awareness programmes from June 1 to 26, ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. 'Through rallies, marathons, seminars, and competitions, we aim to educate the public, especially the youth, about the risks associated with drug abuse,' he said.
He added that departments including Police, Revenue, Excise, Health, and Education are working together to tackle the issue, and de-addiction centres provide treatment to affected individuals.
The SP noted that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2020, targets drug abuse at the grassroots level. The police, along with the Eagle Task Force, are involved in enforcement and awareness activities. Students and employees were also present.

Indore Couple Missing Probe: Suspected Murder Weapon Recovered In Meghalaya's Weisawdong Falls
Last Updated: The case involves Indore-based couple Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who went missing on May 23 while on their honeymoon in Meghalaya's Sohra region Meghalaya Police have recovered the suspected murder weapon — a dao (machete) — along with a mobile phone from the deepest layer of the gorge near Weisawdong Falls. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that the search operation, now reaching the third and final layer of the gorge, was carried out by joint teams of the NDRF, SDRF, and the Special Operations Team. The case involves Indore-based couple Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who went missing on May 23 while on their honeymoon in Meghalaya's Sohra region. Eight days later, the semi-decomposed body of 30-year-old Raja was discovered at the bottom of the gorge near the Weisawdong Falls parking area at Riat Arliang. He was identified by a distinctive 'Raja" tattoo on his right hand. The search for 27-year-old Sonam is still underway. Police have registered a murder case and are treating the circumstances with suspicion. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is leading the probe. 'We are investigating with an open mind, and all possibilities, including honour killing, are being explored," SP Syiem told CNN-News18. Evidence recovered from the site has raised serious concerns. Items found include a woman's white shirt, a broken mobile screen, a strip of Pentra 40 tablets (used for acidity), and Raja's smartwatch, which was still strapped to his wrist when the body was recovered. The couple had checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village — located around 20 km from where Raja's body was found — on May 23. They had arrived in Mawlakhiat the previous day, parked a rented scooter, and descended 3,000 steps to visit the living root bridges in Nongriat, where they spent the night. Raja's body has been sent to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for post-mortem examination. As the search for Sonam continues, investigators hope that the recovery of the dao and mobile phone will provide critical leads in unraveling the mystery behind the suspected double homicide. Cops bust drug peddling gang; cocaine and ephedrine worth Rs 1 crore seized
Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, Cyberabad Special Operation Teams Balanagar zone along with Kukatpally Police apprehended a gang, including a serving police constable from Andhra Pradesh while they were planning to sell the Cocaine mixed with Ephedrine at Kukatpally. Police seized drugs worth Rs 1 crore from their possession. Police arrested Gunashekar, a supplier and a constable Tirupati, Unnam Surendra alias Suri, Dothireddy Haribabu Reddy, Chegudi Mercy Margaret, Shaik Masthan Vali, Devaraju YesuBabu, all native of Andhra Pradesh and Appanna, a peddler from Bangalore. The accused were intercepted near Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, while searching for buyers. Police seized 820 grams of Cocaine mixed with ephedrine worth Rs 1 crore, a digital weighing machine, and five mobile phones from them. According to police, during the ongoing investigation, it was revealed that the main accused Gunasekhar, a serving Task Force Police constable in AP, had proposed the sale of Ephedrine for profit. Surendra, who was looking for easy money, was attracted to the proposal and along with his associates conspired to sell the drug in Hyderabad where there is high demand. N Koti Reddy, DCP, Balanagar Zone, said that on May 29, Surendra collected 820 grams of drug Cocaine mixed with Ephedrine from Gunashekar at Tirupati and proceeded to Hyderabad via Guntur. The group assembled at Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally and planned to distribute the contraband. On June 2, while they were moving towards Bhagyanagar, Kukatpally in search of consumers, the patrolling police intercepted them based on suspicious movement and behaviour. One of the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended. Upon questioning and searching, the team recovered 820 grams of Cocaine-Ephedrine, a digital weighing machine, and mobile phones used in the conspiracy. The seizure was made as per NDPS Act procedures. Cyberabad Police requested parents to keep a watch on the activities of their children and feel free to approach police or pass information if any suspicious activity is noticed.
