The reports claim that Udinese reached an agreement with the player over salary expectations but are now just awaiting his final decision.
Experienced Witsel still has a lot to offer Udinese
Witsel, 36, spent the last three years at Atletico, where head coach Diego Simeone converted the former Zenit man from a midfielder into a more defensive role. Since joining Los Colchoneros from Dortmund in 2022, the Belgian played 116 times for Simeone's side in all competitions.
With 132 appearances for the Belgium National Team, Witsel offers a range of skill and experience that could prove vital to reinforcing Udinese's squad.

Meanwhile, Atalanta clearly rejected Inter's most recent bid for Lookman. This was well over a week ago. Therefore, Inter and Atalanta are currently at a stalemate. According to Sky, however, even if Inter fail to sign Lookman, they will still sign a different forward this summer. Particularly with Cristian Chivu looking to play with a 3-4-2-1 formation, the Nerazzurri feel that they need another attacking player to ensure adequate depth next season.

Spain announce replacement for outgoing manager following Euros performance

Spain have announced that manager Montse Tome will not be continuing in charge of La Roja, after almost two years in charge. Tome was the first women to take charge of the national team. Tome took over the Spain job from predecessor Jorge Vilda, who she was assistant manager to for six years, sharing her duties with the Spain under-17 side. After Vilda was dismissed following the 2023 World Cup victory. Last year, Tome guided La Roja to the 2024 Nations League title, but could not get them over the line against England in the Euros this summer, with La Roja losing out on penalties. Out of contract at the end of the month, the RFEF announced they would not be renewing her deal. Sonia Bermudez to take over from Tome Another former Barcelona player, Sonia Bermudez, who also turned out for Spain, Rayo Vallecano, Levante, Atletico Madrid and Wester New York Flash during her career. As a coach, she began in the youth ranks at Real Madrid, before taking over the Spain under-19 job, followed by the under-20 position and then the under-23s. She will be assisted by Basque coach Iraia Iturregi, who won four league titles with Athletic in 15 seasons as a player. She has also coached at Athletic through the ranks, and spent time as an assistant to the title-winning CD Baskonia in the men's Tercera in 2024-25, another affiliate of Athletic. How will Tome's tenure be viewed? Image via EFE Despite never placing worse than in a final over her two years, Tome has been a lightning rod for criticism since taking over. Under early suspicion for her links to the previous regime with Vilda, and applauding Luis Rubiales infamous speech to the RFEF, Spain struggled to find fluidity for large parts of the biggest games. At Euro 2025, La Roja were widely believed to have the best squad, but unconvincing changes and a loss of control a goal up in the final saw the finger of blame pointed at Tome. Tome commented that she was 'proud' and 'grateful' to the team, her bosses and the staff. She also noted that she leaves the job 'happy and in peace'.

Tigers get positive update on Alex Bregman's free agent status

Tigers get positive update on Alex Bregman's free agent status originally appeared on The Sporting News The Detroit Tigers were linked to Boston Red Sox All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman at the trade deadline. While the Red Sox were hot and were far from sellers, the Tigers' interest in Bregman was enough to monitor them come the offseason. If Detroit is looking to bolster the offense and is still interested in Bregman, they will have to hope he opts out of his $40 million 2026 player option. According to R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports, Bregman could hit the open market. "Bregman will presumably take advantage after a season that has him on pace to set new career-high marks in both pulled fly ball rate and hard-hit percentage (up nearly seven percentage points from last year) -- if only to land a longer term." Anderson writes. If the Tigers can join the Bregman free agent sweepstakes, then a potential deal is well within the cards for Detroit. They need a new third baseman, and Bregman would be an incredible pickup for such a role. Bregman hitting free agency would mean he's turning down $40 million per season to look for a longer-term deal. Detroit would have to make a massive commitment to Bregman, but the Tigers, with a lot of young prospects coming up through the system, have the financial leeway to swing such a huge deal. MORE: Tigers lost out to Mets on trade for Cardinals' Ryan Helsley While the ownership group could decide not to spend big, if they do, Bregman is likely one of the options they could use their money on. As Anderson mentioned, Bregman is setting new career highs in two key statistics. Those two, while not as prominent as OPS or batting average, indicate that not only is Bregman hitting the ball as hard as he's done in his career, but he's also pulling the ball. The two combine to create an environment for more home runs from Bregman. Even though Bregman is 31 years old, the Tigers should be willing to spend a fortune on Bregman in the offseason. He'd dramatically improve the Tigers' offense, and this article from Anderson opens the door to Bregman hitting free agency. After a lackluster trade deadline, the Tigers front office, led by Scott Harris, could get back in the good graces of the Tigers fandom by signing Bregman in the offseason. It'll cost a lot, but Bregman would be a huge boost to the offense, while shoring up the third base spot for the years to come.
