10 ULBs in UP selected for updation of land records under NAKSHA scheme
Lucknow, Ten urban local bodies in the state have been shortlisted under 'NAKSHA' programme for the creation of an up-to-date database of urban land records.
According to Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Land Resources , the 10 shortlisted ULBs in the state are Tanda , Nawabganj , Anoopshahr , Chitrakootdham , Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Jhansi, Chunar , Puranpur and Tilhar .
"In the country, 152 such ULBs have been shortlisted. Of the 10 ULBs in UP, aerial mapping has been done in seven ULBs, and the work of ground verification has started. We want the maps of these 10 ULBs to be ready by September-October," Joshi said while speaking to reporters on Monday.
He added that when these new land records are created, various land-related disputes will be solved.
According to the web portal of the Department of Land Resources, NAKSHA is a one-year pilot programme launched by the department under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme.
It aims to revolutionise urban land records across 157 ULBs in 27 states and three Union Territories, covering over 4,484 sq. km and benefiting over 1.5 crore citizens.
Using cutting-edge aerial and field survey techniques, NAKSHA is building a comprehensive, GIS-integrated database of urban land parcels.
According to the portal, the initiative would play a pivotal role in addressing this demand by enabling transparent property ownership, streamlining urban planning processes, and supporting better infrastructure development.
It would also contribute to enhancing municipal revenue collection, strengthening disaster preparedness and response, and boosting public trust and private investment through reliable, legally certified land data.
Joshi stated that 90 per cent of the people's assets in our country are in the form of land and property, and two-thirds of the disputes in courts are related to them.
"If the land record system is good, then a lot of these can be resolved," he asserted.
Later, in a statement issued, the UP government said that currently, around 22.27 per cent of the state's population resides in urban areas, and it is estimated that by 2031, this percentage will increase to approximately 40 per cent.
Given this, the need for accurate and accessible urban land records is critical, it said.

Congress to hold mashal marches across Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee will organise mashal (torch) marches across the state between June 12 and 14 to protest what it calls a systematic erosion of democratic processes under the BJP regime. The party has questioned the election commission's credibility and has hit out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for 'sidestepping serious concerns' raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged electoral manipulation. Congress state vice president and former MLA Mohan Joshi announced the agitation on Tuesday, saying, 'Rahul Gandhi's recent newspaper article exposed the BJP's blueprint of vote theft in Maharashtra. It has rattled the ruling party. Instead of the Election Commission responding, Fadnavis jumped in with a reply that deflects from the core issue and misleads the people.' In his article published Saturday, Gandhi had described the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections as a 'blueprint for rigging democracy,' alleging a pattern of electoral 'match-fixing' that could soon be replicated in Bihar. The Election Commission dismissed the claims as 'absolutely absurd' and accused Gandhi of defaming the institution after an unfavourable result. Responding the next day, Fadnavis said, 'Rahul Gandhi consistently insults the democratic process. He repeatedly disrespects the public mandate. People have rejected Rahul Gandhi, and in retaliation, he is rejecting the people. This will only push the Congress party further into decline.' Joshi, however, accused Fadnavis of avoiding the real concerns raised by Gandhi. 'Instead of addressing the serious irregularities, he launched a personal attack. Why is the chief minister responding on behalf of the Election Commission? That itself raises suspicion,' Joshi said. He pointed out that Gandhi had questioned the process through which the Modi government amended the Constitution to remove the Chief Justice of India from the committee that appoints election commissioners, replacing the seat with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 'This move gave the ruling party complete control over the selection of commissioners—this is where the electoral fraud begins,' Joshi said. He added that Congress governments had always followed a transparent process in appointing election commissioners, with no political interference. 'No one questioned the integrity of the commissioners we appointed. But Fadnavis, in his article, avoided these facts and instead chose to make shallow accusations,' Joshi said. Joshi also raised concerns over the unusual spike in voter numbers during the 2024 Assembly elections and reports of polling continuing beyond official hours in certain constituencies. 'Fadnavis has deliberately ignored these issues. His silence on this reinforces doubts about the fairness of the process,' he said.

India 4th largest economy due to Modi's leadership: Joshi
Bengaluru, June 10 (UNI) Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday attributed India's emergence as the world's fourth-largest economy to the political stability and decisive leadership provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last 11 years. Speaking at a press conference here to mark the completion of 11 years of Modi-led government at the Centre, Joshi said, 'From taking nearly 60 years to reach a $2 trillion economy, India's economy today has crossed $4 trillion under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. This is a result of policy continuity, political stability, and strong governance.' Joshi said the transformation is visible across sectors — from defence reforms and digital inclusion to social welfare and internal security. He cited figures from the World Bank and Indian government agencies to assert that over 26 crore people have come out of multidimensional poverty since 2014. 'This is not a claim made by us. These are government and World Bank figures,' Joshi emphasised, adding that the Opposition cannot dispute these facts. He said the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) — pending for over three decades — was a symbol of decisive governance. 'Coordination among the three defence services is now a reality. Earlier governments only spoke of reform; we implemented it,' Joshi remarked. He also pointed to major defence exports worth ₹25,000 crore including BrahMos missiles and INS Vikrant as examples of India's growing self-reliance. On internal security, the minister said terrorism has declined sharply in recent years. 'Today, except for some pockets in border areas, the country is largely free from terrorism. The Red Corridor is shrinking, and Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that terrorism will be eliminated from India by March 2026,' he said. Joshi also credited the Modi government with transforming the digital economy through Aadhaar-linked Jan Dhan accounts, UPI payments, and Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT). 'Over ₹44 lakh crore has been directly transferred to beneficiaries, with a saving of ₹3.5 lakh crore due to the elimination of middlemen,' he stated. He added that more than 6.93 lakh km of optical fibre has been laid under the Digital India mission, bringing affordable internet access to rural India. 'In India, data costs as low as ₹1 per GB have democratised the digital economy. Compare that with $6 in the US and over $3 in Japan,' Joshi said. He also highlighted India's rise in the Ease of Doing Business rankings — from 142 to 63 in just four years — and cited the massive scale of digital transactions in 2024 alone, amounting to ₹24 lakh crore, with 83% of UPI transactions linked to bank accounts. Touching on taxation, Joshi said the Modi government has made the tax regime middle-class friendly, raising the zero-tax income limit from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹12 lakh. On space and technology, he said India's Chandrayaan missions and the privatisation of the space sector have placed the country at the forefront of global innovation. In conclusion, Joshi said, 'From self-reliance in defence and space to lifting crores out of poverty, the last 11 years under Narendra Modi have redefined governance in India. And all of it began with one thing — political stability and decisive leadership.' UNI BDN PRS
