Body found in search for missing Scot as family told of tragedy
A body has been found in the search for a missing man who vanished in Greenock four days ago. Thom Kane , 56, was last seen in the Eldon Street area of the town at around 7.30am on Thursday, April 24. Officers said there were concerns for his welfare and they appealed for information. Sadly, police have now confirmed they were made aware of a body having been found in the Atholl Road area in Pitlochry at around 1.10pm on Sunday. Formal identification has yet to take place, however Thom's heartbroken family have been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances relating to the death . A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a body having been found in the Atholl Road area of Pitlochry, around 1.10pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025. "Formal identification has still to take place however the family of Thom Kane, who was reported missing from Greenock, has been informed. "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal." Police previously said they believed Thom may have travelled to the Fort William area in a silver Volvo V60 Cross Country. Inspector Ross Wilson, of Greenock Police Station, said last week: 'It is out of character for Thom to be out of contact with his family and friends and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare. 'We are carrying out extensive enquiries and would urge anyone who has seen Thom, his vehicle, or who has any information on his whereabouts to please get in touch.'

A major incident public portal set up to collect images, footage and information from the public had received numerous submissions, police said. Police added that inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

The body of a man has been discovered in the search for teenager Cole Cooper who vanished more than four weeks ago. Police said the body was found in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Banknock, Falkirk, at around 4.15pm on Friday. Formal identification has not yet taken place but the family of Mr Cooper, 19, has been informed. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances, Police Scotland said. Mr Cooper was last seen by family on either May 2 or 3 and he appeared on CCTV around 6am on May 4 in Longcroft, where he tried but failed to access his father's home. He was last seen at about 8.45pm on May 7 on the A803 near Cumbernauld Road in Longcroft, when he asked a school friend for a lift, which he was not given. His family reported him missing on May 9, sparking a major investigation involving helicopters, divers, digital specialists and hundreds of officers. More than 400 people were spoken to during door-to-door inquiries, while over 2,000 hours of CCTV were reviewed. Police previously treated the case as a missing person investigation rather than a criminal inquiry. Earlier this week, officers said they would revisit the locations where Mr Cooper was last seen in a fresh attempt to trace potential witnesses. A major incident portal has been set up for the public to share footage, images and possible lines of inquiry, and detectives said it has received 'numerous' submissions. Detectives previously said the investigation was being treated as a missing person's inquiry rather than a criminal probe. A major search has involved helicopters, divers, digital and financial investigators. On May 28, detectives said the examination of more than 1,000 hours of CCTV had taken place along with door-to-door inquiries at more than 220 homes. Around a week later, the hours of CCTV examined had increased to more than 2,000. Chief Inspector Alex Hatrick, local area commander, had previously thanked the public for supporting the investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.

We told yesterday how the tragic teen's family said they had lived through a five weeks of "hell" and were planning to launch a fresh search for him. He went missing after visiting a pub in the Denny area before heading to a friend's party at around 3am last month. This Sunday would have marked five "long and painful" weeks since loved ones last heard from Cole. He last made contact on May, 4 and his cousin Aimee Tennie was hoping to gather the largest search for Cole yet and she launched an emotional plea for volunteers and support. Detectives investigating his disappearance say he was seen several days later on Wednesday, May 7. He had been at the intersection with Cumbernauld Road, in the Longcroft area. Police said he asked a schoolfriend for a lift around 8.45pm that evening.
