KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank is underwriting RM2.5bil, which is one-third and the largest share of the biggest syndicated Islamic financing for data centres in Asia Pacific, to support DayOne Data Centers Singapore Pte Ltd's green data centres in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
In a statement, Maybank said this onshore Ringgit Islamic tranche amounts to RM7.5bil, and an equivalent US dollar-denominated offshore conventional tranche, forming a five-year, dual-currency green financing package totalling RM15bil.
The borrower, WG Data Hub Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of DayOne, shall use the proceeds to develop Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-certified data centres. LEED is an internationally recognised and globally utilised green building certification system.
Headquartered in Singapore, DayOne is a global leader in digital infrastructure, with a growing footprint across tier-one and emerging markets, including Singapore, Johor (Malaysia), Batam (Indonesia), Greater Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and beyond.
'This landmark transaction represents Maybank's largest Islamic financing commitment to the data centre sector. It highlights our unique position and global leadership in structuring and promoting Islamic and green finance,' president and group CEO Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said.
'As the only homegrown ASEAN bank with a presence in all 10 key markets, Maybank's regional footprint and insights give us a distinct edge in supporting clients entering the JS-SEZ. This is backed by establishing a dedicated JS-SEZ Desk, and commitment to position the zone as a vibrant regional hub.'

Woodlands Checkpoint Upgrade To Maximise JS-SEZ Potential

By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The redevelopment of Woodlands Checkpoint, to be expanded to five times its current size, will improve cross-border connectivity and maximise the potential of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in his National Day Rally (NDR) speech said that the redevelopment will ensure more efficient and secure clearances, as well as shorter wait times and smoother traffic. bootstrap slideshow 'The SEZ has great potential for both sides to tap on complementary strengths and grow together. To maximise this potential, we must improve cross-border connectivity,' he said on Sunday. He said that today, the Causeway is the busiest land crossing in the world, which gets even more congested during weekends and holidays. To provide a long-term solution to this chronic congestion, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) had previously announced it was redeveloping and extending the Woodlands Checkpoint (WCP) in phases over the next 10 to 15 years. Under Phase 1, ICA will build an extension of WCP at the Old Woodlands Town Centre, with construction work for this phase scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. This extension, among others, will include new automated clearance facilities for cargo vehicles, arriving cars, and arriving motorcycles. Wong also informed that the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, which will connect directly to Woodlands North MRT Station in Singapore, is set to ease cross-border travel.

Mosque in Batu Kawah receives brand-new funeral van, thanks to foundation

Dr Sim (centre) joins others in a photo-call, taken during the symbolic handing-over of the funeral van to the mosque committee. KUCHING (Aug 17): Masjid Darus Sakinah of Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawah here has received its first-ever 'van jenazah' (funeral van), donated by Yayasan OBYU. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian performed the official handing-over ceremony at the mosque today. 'This is a very historic moment for Masjid Darus Sakinah, as this is the first 'van jenazah' ever received by the mosque. 'The contribution of a unit of Foton View C2 2.8L (Manual) Diesel Year 2024 worth RM140,949.10, is indeed most timely and meaningful,' said the Batu Kawah assemblyman in his speech. He added that the van, along with the mosque's fully-equipped 'bilik jenazah' (funeral room) would greatly ease the burden off the bereaved Muslim families. 'With complete and proper facilities, funeral arrangements can now be carried out in a more efficient manner, in accordance with the syariah (Islamic requirements). 'I therefore sincerely hope that Masjid Darus Sakinah will make the best use of this contribution with great care and responsibility, so that it may serve the community for many years to come,' he added. Dr Sim also commended Yayasan OBYU, a non-profit organisation under OBYU Holdings Sdn Bhd, for its continuous contributions. 'Today marks the third donation from Yayasan OBYU, and it is indeed a testament to their dedication in uplifting the welfare of society,' he said. The Deputy Premier further highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative. 'We really want not only 'Sarawak Maju dan Makmur' (Progressive And Prosperous Sarawak), but also 'Batu KawaH Maju dan Makmur'. 'The mosque expansion is one part of it, but we're very lucky to have OBYU coming in with the car component. 'That is the best example of how, when we come together, we can achieve wonders. 'This 'van jenazah', even though it looks simple, is very important for the village because the whole Batu Kawah had none before. 'That's why this facility, together with the bilik jenazah', are such a complete package,' he added. Also present were OBYU Holdings founder and advisor Tan Sri Bustari Yusuf, Yayasan OBYU chairman Datu Dr Hatta Solihi, Yayasan OBYU trustee Dato Ahmadi Yusoff, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru headmanWain Sulaiman, and Masjid Darus Sakinah Kampung Sinar Budi Baru committee chairman Sarum Putit. donation Dr Sim Kui Hian funeral van Kampung Sinar Budi Baru

HLIB sees Sunway as prime domestic growth proxy, retains 'Buy' with RM5.90 target

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) is doubling down on Sunway Bhd's growth prospects, reiterating its BUY call with a sum-of-parts (SOP) target price of RM5.90, underpinned by rising exposure to Malaysia's accelerating economic upcycle. The investment bank's bullish stance cements Sunway as a key proxy for Malaysia's growth story heading into 2026. HLIB said Sunway is well-positioned to capitalise on domestic momentum, with multiple catalysts on the horizon – from stronger-than-expected construction order book wins and a potential conversion of its Medini land to freehold status to the planned healthcare arm listing in early 2026, which could unlock substantial shareholder value. Over the longer term, HLIB expects Sunway's property segment to stay resilient, supported by healthy take-up from phased launches, strategic landbank expansion, and leverage to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), alongside steady progress in its Singapore-based projects. HLIB said the technical outlook for Sunway remains bullish. It noted that Sunway's share price has rebounded sharply from a double-bottom at RM4.00 (January 17) and RM3.93 (April 7), breaking above its 200-day moving average (RM4.65) to hit an all-time high of RM5.16 on July 18, before closing at RM4.74 on Monday. The investment bank sees the stockholding firm above the RM4.64 support level, with upside potential towards RM4.84, RM5.00, RM5.15, and RM5.32.
