An Incensed Charli XCX Categorically Refuses to Play Her Biggest Hit in Hilarious ‘Overcompensating' Trailer: ‘Are You Joking!'
Charli XCX has been slowly building up her acting resumé over the past decade with a series of voice roles in the Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls and spots on TV shows including Gossip Girl and I'm With the Band: Nasty Cherry. But as she prepares to really dive into her actress era with a series of as-yet-unscheduled big screen projects, the Brat singer is warming up with a very funny cameo as herself in the first trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime comedy series Overcompensating.
In the teaser that dropped on Tuesday (March 25) for the show that debuts on May 15, Charli is booked to play a campus gig and she's absolutely livid about a beloved song the promoters want her to perform. 'Do you think I want to play f–king 'Boom Clap' in a f–king college,' she rages at a stricken-looking, headset-wearing stage manager trying to maintain her smile as she gets berated for asking the singer to play the pop jam that was featured on both the soundtrack to the weeper drama The Fault in Our Stars and on Charli's second studio album, 2014's Sucker.

'Are you joking?' Charli adds as the woman's face subtly transforms from patient to terrified.
The semi-autobiographical Overcompensating follows closeted former high school football player Benny (Skinner), who becomes friends with an outsider, Carmen (Wally Baram), who is trying his hardest to fit in. In addition to those two, the show also features regulars Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror), Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus) and Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel), as well as Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaia Gerber, and Owen Thiele.
After setting the world on fire with her brat summer last year, Charlie is reportedly in talks for a role in Greta Gerwig's upcoming Narnia film as Jadis, the White Witch. She is also slated to appear alongside Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman in The Gallerist, Gregg Araki's upcoming thriller I Want Your Sex, Daniel Goldhaber's Faces of Death remake and Julia Jackman's 100 Nights of Hero graphic novel adaptation, as well as producing the movie The Moment based on her original idea.

Lil Wayne Brings ‘Tha Carter' Album Series Full-Circle With ‘A Milli' Performance at 2025 BET Awards
Lil Wayne was in the house at Monday night's (June 9) 2025 BET Awards, with the rap icon taking the stage to perform both a new song and a classic track on the heels of the release of his new album Tha Carter VI. Weezy's performance came a little over an hour into the show, with the star making a dramatic entrance as a gospel choir in red robes sang and fog clouded the Peacock Theater stage in Los Angeles. As the audience greeted him with raucous applause, Wayne fittingly opened with 'Welcome to Tha Carter,' which is the second track from his latest LP. 'Respect, I don't demand, I deserve, my standards superb/ Family first, family second, family third.' Tunechi then rolled seamlessly into his next selection for the night, giving fans a blast from the past by dusting off his 2008 hit 'A Milli.' As he recited the iconic bars with a big smile on his face, fans in the crowd rapped along to the lines 'A million here, a million there.' Peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, 'A Milli' was one of several hits on Wayne's critically acclaimed Billboard 200-topper Tha Carter III, aka the third installment in his yearslong Tha Carter album series. The rapper recently added to the series with the long-awaited June 6 release of Tha Carter VI, a sprawling 19-track effort featuring collaborations with Wyclef Jean, BigXthaPlug, Jelly Roll, MGK and more co-stars. The same day he dropped Tha Carter VI, Wayne kicked off his tour in support of the album with a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Weezy is up for a few prizes at the 25th-anniversary BET Awards — hosted this year by Kevin Hart — including best male hip hop artist against BigXthaPlug, Bossman DLow, Burna Boy, Drake, Future, Kendrick Lamar, Key Glock and Tyler, The Creator. Wayne is also nominated twice in the best collaboration category, with both his work on Bless with Wheezy and Young Thug and 'Sticky' with Tyler, GloRilla and Sexyy Red picking up nods. Jamie Foxx Honored by Stevie Wonder & Reflects on Health Scare at BET Awards: ‘You Can't Go Through Something Like That & Not Testify'
Stevie Wonder surprised everyone at the 2025 BET Awards when he stepped out to honor his longtime friend Jamie Foxx. During the 2025 BET Awards on Monday (June 9), Jamie Foxx was set to be honored with the Ultimate Icon Award. Throughout the night, it was teased that a 'special guest' would appear onstage to give Foxx his award. That guest was none other than Stevie Wonder. Foxx famously portrayed Charles in the 2004 film Ray, for which he won the best actor Oscar. Jennifer Hudson then took the helm and bodied a soulful cover of 'Gold Digger,' a 10-week Hot 100 No. 1 for Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Foxx back in 2005. T-Pain and Doug E. Fresh then popped out to close out the celebration with a rockin' cover of the 2009 No. 2 Hot 100 hit 'Blame It.' Through it all, Foxx could be seen laughing, nodding along and having a great time. 'Jamie, look at me!' Stevie joked at the end of the show before inviting Jamie to speak. 'I remember seeing you the first time at a club, playing piano and singing, but I knew from the moment I heard you sing that you had so much more. I admire and celebrate your talent and your love — for blind people. I'm very happy to be here tonight to see you honored as you so very well deserve.' During his acceptance speech, Foxx thanked all his friends and loved ones for showing up for him while he went through life-threatening medical complications back in 2023. He added that when he saw the 'In Memorium' segment, it made him reflect on his own health scare. 'You can't go through something like that and not testify,' Foxx concluded to a roar of applause. 'A career that I could only thank God for.'
