UAE Launches Advertiser Permit for Social Media Users
In a landmark move, the UAE Media Council announced the launch of a mandatory Advertiser Permit for anyone posting promotional content on social media—whether paid or unpaid. This new regulation takes effect three months from its announcement on July 30, 2025, giving content creators a grace period to register and comply. The new regulation applies to individuals, including influencers, freelancers, or anyone promoting products or services via their social media accounts in the UAE. The permit covers both paid and unpaid content, such as sponsorships, product mentions, or shout-outs. Two groups of people are exempt from this are users promoting their own products or business via personal accounts and m inors (under 18) sharing educational, cultural, athletic, or awareness content aligned with age-specific classification rules. Non-resident creators must secure a Visitor Advertiser Permit through a licensed advertising or talent agency. The permit for visitors will be valid for three months, renewable once for an additional term. Visitor permits will be activated within three months of launch. The permit will be issued free of charge for the first three years. Content creators must display their permit number clearly on their social media accounts. These accounts cannot be used by anyone else for advertising purposes. Businesses and institutions are encouraged to engage only with licensed permits to ensure professional standards and compliance. Failure to comply may trigger fines, potential license revocations, or account suspension under existing UAE media laws.

The Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa) is calling on innovators from around the world to help shape the future of learning through its 7th edition Access Sharjah Challenge (ASC). The competition will award two winning startups an equity-free grant of Dh250,000 each with the invaluable opportunity to pilot their solutions in four leading educational institutions in Sharjah. With the UAE's EdTech sector projected to grow at six per cent annually through 2030, fuelled by the nation's drive to build a knowledge-focused society and to advance skills in the age of AI and technological progress, strategic and purpose-driven support for innovators within this important industry is essential for the future. Two key challenges identified The first, the 'Future-Ready Skills Challenge', seeks innovative solutions to equip students with essential digital literacy, computational thinking, critical analysis, and foundational soft skills. This addresses the pressing need highlighted by the World Economic Forum, which predicts that 85 per cent of the jobs in 2030 haven't been invented yet, demanding adaptability far beyond rote learning. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. The second, the 'Arabic in Early Childhood Challenge', focuses on instilling a deep, meaningful connection with the Arabic language during the critical nursery and early primary years. It calls for engaging, age-appropriate solutions that foster fluency, cultural appreciation, and a genuine love for the language. The challenge offers a compelling proposition for serious education innovators with a total equity-free grant pool of Dh500,000. Two winning startups will each receive Dh250,000, coupled with the invaluable opportunity to pilot their proven solutions across four leading institutions — Alsedra Private School, Khalifah Al Hamzah American School, Pakistan Islamia Higher Secondary School, and Al Badee Nursery. At its core, ASC 2025 is a powerful engine for multi-directional knowledge exchange and skill development, and as global entrepreneurs prepare to present their cutting-edge technology and fresh perspectives to be implemented within Sharjah's diverse educational landscape, Sheraa will be there to guide them on every step of the journey. Strategic investment in education technology ASC 2025 represents a strategic investment in knowledge exchange, skill development, and the co-creation of future-ready learning environments, and invites both local and global innovators to partner with Sharjah's educational ecosystem and propel this legacy further. Sheraa, established to empower entrepreneurs and position Sharjah as a hub for meaningful innovation, has strategically designated Education Technology (EdTech) as one of its core Centres of Excellence. This focus directly addresses the emirate's commitment to enhancing learning outcomes, equipping students for an uncertain future shaped by rapid technological change, and nurturing cultural identity and pride. Building on Sharjah's strong educational foundation which encompasses some of the leading universities and institutions in the region, and also evidenced by its private schools achieving an average score of 519 in the 2021 'Progress in International Reading Literacy Study' (PIRLS), exceeding international benchmarks, ASC 2025 zeroes in on two critical and co-defined priorities in collaboration with the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) and Sharjah Education Academy (SEA).

MTN Group and Agility Arabia transform procurement with groundbreaking agile operating model
Dubai, UAE – MTN Group, Africa's largest mobile network operator, has successfully partnered with UAE-based consultancy Agility Arabia to deliver one of the telecom industry's most ambitious Agile transformations in procurement to date. The initiative, rolled out across MTN's Global Sourcing and Supply Chain (GSSC) division, has set a new benchmark in procurement agility, transparency, and operational effectiveness. A Region-Spanning Transformation Rooted in Agile Principles Operating across 16 African markets and serving over 291 million customers, MTN sought to address growing business complexity, reduce time to market, and unlock higher value from its procurement operations. Its GSSC division—responsible for sourcing, supply chain and vendor management across 17 operating companies—was identified as a critical lever for strategic transformation. Agility Arabia was selected as the partner for this journey due to its pioneering work in Agile procurement, regional presence, and status as the UAE's first Professional Training Network™ member. The collaboration focused on introducing a Lean Agile Procurement (LAP) framework that moved MTN away from traditional waterfall processes towards adaptive, iterative delivery. Key Results in Less Than 6 Months The phased rollout, beginning in Q1 2023, delivered remarkable outcomes within six months: Strategic RFP timelines reduced by up to 55%, resulting in significant annual savings 84% of GSSC staff were actively participating in Agile projects Agile Net Promoter Score (NPS) doubled within three months 13 high-performing Agile teams became self-managing and mature in LAP delivery 80%+ of employees reported strong confidence in the new framework Anonymous surveys showed 74% felt it helped them do their jobs better The transformation included deep capability-building, live coaching, and restructuring of roles around Agile squads. Maturity was tracked using Agility Arabia's proprietary 23-point Agile performance assessment. Leadership Perspective Speaking about the transformation's impact, Andrew Savage, Global Lead for Procurement Excellence at MTN, stated: 'Agility Arabia's team played a pivotal role in setting up and aligning all teams with the prescribed methodologies and guidelines. Their responsibility extended to coaching, guiding, and mentoring each team member, fostering active participation from over 80% of our organisation in agile initiatives. We saw an improvement of up to 55% in strategic RFP cycle times, illustrating the tangible benefits of the transformation. Within three months, our Agile Net Promoter Score doubled, reflecting the success of our collaboration.' Overcoming Complex Challenges with Embedded Coaching The journey was not without challenges—from change resistance and cross-timezone collaboration, to introducing Agile in a non-software environment. Agility Arabia embedded experienced coaches within MTN's teams to provide continuous, in-person support. This helped overcome adoption hurdles, align stakeholders, and ensure consistent use of Scrum events, backlogs, and customer-centric planning techniques like proto-personas and relative estimation. The initiative also included ongoing training for new joiners, weekly "Breakfast & Learn" sessions, and upskilling of the Scrum Master cohort. A Scalable Model for Enterprise-Wide Change MTN's transformation is now seen as a template for Agile adoption across other functions. The next phase will include enterprise-level Agile coaching, deeper integration of Lean Agile Procurement practices, and continuous reinforcement of MTN's "Digital DNA" strategy. Agility Arabia and MTN were jointly shortlisted for the 2024 Excellence in Procurement and Supply Consultancy Project of the Year, with MTN earning further recognition through three additional award nominations.
