Efforts on to ensure hassle-free Charminar heritage walk: GHMC
Hyderabad: Ahead of Miss World 2025 beauty pageant competitions and the scheduled heritage walk at the historic Charminar and Lad Bazar market for delegates, GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan along with various department officers visited the Charminar and its surroundings. The Commissioner directed the officers to expedite all related works.
He instructed the officials to take steps to ensure that there was no scope for any inconvenience during the heritage walk. Officials were instructed to oversee the department-wise works and the arrangements for the conduct of the heritage tour. Steps should be taken to complete the pending beautification works near Charminar, Lad Bazar, Chowmahalla Palace, he added.
As per schedule, the Miss World contestants will go on a heritage walk at Charminar and Lad Bazar, followed by dinner at Chowmahalla Palace on May 13.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Commissioner inspected various developmental works on Wednesday in the Old City. Karnan ordered the officials to complete the land acquisition process required for the construction of Aramgarh flyover up and down ramps as early as possible. He inspected the flyover from Aramgarh to Zoo Park and Shastripuram ROB works.

HYDERABAD: Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday criticised BRS leaders for claiming that the government had spent Rs 200 crore on Miss World 2025. Speaking to reporters, along with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Secretariat, he said: 'BRS leaders are spreading misinformation. The total expenditure for the event was Rs 30 crore, of which Rs 21 crore was borne by sponsors. The government spent only Rs 9 crore.' Asking BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao to substantiate their claims, the minister dared them to an open debate on the issue. 'If they fail to prove their allegations, they should rub their noses on the ground,' he said and alleged that Rs 115 crore was spent for tourism promotion during the BRS regime. 'Opposition parties are spreading false information through social media that the government has given 300 grams (30 tolas) of gold to each Miss World contestant. We did not give even three grams of gold. They are also spreading false propaganda that the government had spent Rs 1 lakh per meal at the dinner hosted in Chowmahalla Palace. The truth is that the government spent only Rs 8,200 per plate,' he said. He asserted that with lower expenditure, the government has successfully promoted Telangana tourism, traditions and culture throughout the world. Meanwhile, the minister described the allegations made by Miss England Milla Magee as false. 'If anybody misbehaved with her, the other contestants would not have stayed here until the finals of the Miss World contest,' he said.

It is a State that represents beauty, progress and world-class healthcare, which is close to my heart.' Continental winner from Africa Miss Ethiopia Hasset Dereje, the first runner-up, echoed the sentiment, describing Telangana as her home for the past month. Magee, 24, left India on May 16, accusing the Miss World organisers of exploiting contestants. She told The Sun that she was being made to feel 'like a prostitute' at the beauty pageant, which concluded in Hyderabad on May 31 with the crowning of Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri. Two days after the grand finale of the Miss World beauty pageant in Hyderabad, Milla Magee seems to have reached Ibiza. The Spanish island is known for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife. Magee took to Instagram to share a series of photographs from Ibiza a few hours ago. Her Instagram Stories show a beach crowded with hundreds of tourists, a picture of calm waters captioned 'Elixir', and a photograph of the friend who seems to be accompanying her on the holiday. Milla Magee grew up in London, initially being schooled at More House. She later moved to Cornwall. She is currently based in Newquay in Cornwall, where she also works as a lifeguard. In a no-holds-barred interview with The Sun, Magee said that her experience at the Miss World pageant in Hyderabad left her emotionally shaken.
