The Latin Grammys get closer to cinema with the new best music for visual media category
The new category announced Wednesday will recognize original music for movies, TV shows, video games and other visual media. For a project to participate in this category, it must feature Latin rhythms or be composed by someone of Ibero American descent.
'It is a category that we had been analyzing for almost three years,' Luis Dousdebes, the Latin Recording Academy's chief awards, membership & preservation officer, told The Associated Press. 'We were told 'there is a lot of production here that is being orphaned a little in the process.''
After analyzing statistical information, meeting the Latin creators of music for visual media and finding the necessary experts for the committee that will vote in the category, the academy decided to create the category.
'We know that in the near future it will mutate into other categories and, logically, it will be differentiated between soundtracks, music for video games, best song, all sort of things,' Dousdebes said.
The Latin Grammys will also add a best roots song category. This award will go to the songwriters of new, unpublished recordings that reflect the traditions and roots of various communities, cultures, or social groups, especially those of Hispanic American origin, whether in Spanish, Portuguese or Indigenous languages or dialects.
The changes are immediate and will be effective for the 26th edition of the Latin Grammys to be handed out in November in Miami.
Among other changes announced by the Latin Recording Academy, the best pop vocal album category will be renamed best contemporary pop album and the best Latin children's album will now become best children's album.
The best urban/urban fusion performance category has a new name, and its criteria has also changed. Now, remixes are eligible only if the original version of the song was released within the same eligibility year. The required percentage of urban elements has increased from 51% to 60% to qualify in this category.
The songwriter of the year category reduced its minimum song threshold from six songs to four, and the best long form music video category now has a minimum duration of 12 minutes (not including the credits, unless they contribute to the creative process).
The screening and voting process for the producer of the year category was also modified to be recognized as a craft, and thus, will now be screened and voted on by a specialized committee in addition to the membership screening and voting process.

Inside Ocaso, Rosebank's new Mexican-inspired hotspot
If Rosebank had its own golden hour, it would live inside Ocaso. Just a month old, this airy new restaurant has already become the kind of place where friends gather for lazy lunches, cocktails flow like conversation, and the décor begs for a spot on your Instagram feed. Inspired by the warmth and colour of a sunset (ocaso means exactly that in Spanish), the space nails that carefree, summery energy. On the menu, you'll find Mexican-inspired plates and cocktails that are as easy to love as the laid-back atmosphere. I went for lunch and left plotting my return before I'd even finished my spicy margarita. Stepping through the doors at Ocaso, the urge to abandon my midyear responsibilities and embrace the South African spirit of ' Ke Dezemba' was seriously overwhelming. Ocaso is designed to move with you. By day, it's the perfect spot for long lunches and after-work drinks. As the sun dips, the mood shifts: DJs ease the room into lounge territory, with a soundtrack of R'n'B, Hip-Hop, Afrohouse and Amapiano. It's also Corona's first dedicated flagship in South Africa, and through the thoughtful design, vibrant food, crafted cocktails, and atmospheric rituals (every day at sunset, a special gong ritual signals the start of the evening), it brings the brand to life. We started our tasting with Ocaso's most talked-about ritual: table-side guacamole, prepared with flair by Thabo Ferguson. If you've been to Ocaso, you'll know him; he's become something of a star on TikTok for the performance he brings to this simple dish. Watching him mash ripe avocados with generous lime and chilli, all while keeping the table entertained, turned a starter into a full-on experience. Served with warm, house-made Momma's chips, it set the tone for what was to come. From there, the starters rolled in: crisp pico de gallo and tortilla chips, the indulgent sweet corn ribs slathered in creamy, zesty toppings, a mini taco tasting board (with the seared tuna dressed in vibrant citrus notes stealing the spotlight), and a fresh, tangy salmon ceviche that cut through with just the right burst of acidity. The mains kept the pace. The beef birria tacos, slow-cooked until fall-apart tender and served with a rich consommé, were an instant favourite. The Carne Asada Platter was made for sharing, a generous feast of flame-grilled sirloin, chicken thighs, wings, lamb chops, beef bangers, birria tacos, rustic fries, salsa, elote corn and three house sauces, served with salad. Comfort came in the form of nachos, stacked with guacamole, gooey cheese sauce, cream cheese, chives and extra mozzarella, while the flame-grilled half chicken roast feast rounded things out – juicy, flavourful roast chicken paired with fresh tortillas, guacamole, salsa, chilli, pan-fried rice, hot sauce and crispy chips. Cocktails here are as much of a draw as the food. The Sol Bravio – El Jimador Blanco with hot honey and lime, was fiery yet refreshing, while the Henny Pot (Hennessy VS, Appletiser, elderflower and lemon) leaned smooth and strong, the kind of drink you want to sip long into the evening. Dessert sealed the deal: the pillowy tres leches cake, a rich Mexican chocolate lava cake with hints of cinnamon spice, and the decadent bananas foster, caramelised and served with rum and raisin ice cream, cocoa crumbs and walnuts. The interiors, by Johannesburg-based Bourne Kreative, deserve as much mention as the food. From the woven wicker-fronted bar glowing like a lantern, to the oversized beaded light fittings, macramé details and ocean-blue floor, the space feels transportive, a little urban escape that shifts with the time of day. Nearly everything was custom-made, with local artisans at the heart of the design. Ocaso isn't just adding another restaurant to Rosebank's lineup; it's bringing a whole new rhythm to the neighbourhood. Whether you're there for Thabo's famous guac, a round of cocktails with friends, or to dance your way from sunset into the small hours, this is a space that delivers on both flavour and atmosphere. With summer stretching ahead, consider this your go-to golden-hour destination and don't be surprised if it quickly becomes your new favourite hangout.

Major Zoe drama confirmed in EastEnders as Kat is left reeling by Slater shocks
Another member of the Slater-Moon clan discovers Alfie's (Shane Richie) secrets in EastEnders next week. As viewers of the BBC One soap have seen, Alf' has been concealing his search for step-daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) for the last few months. He's went to extreme lengths to conceal his plight from wife Kat (Jessie Wallace), who hasn't been in touch with her eldest child in a number of years. Kat has so far uncovered a series of lies he's told – but each time he's managed to evade being caught out. Next week, however, he isn't as lucky. Honestly, we're not sure. She showed up on Stacey Slater's (Lacey Turner) doorstep during her brief period away from Walford, and the two hadn't seen one another in decades. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Clearly in a bad way, Stace' rented a flat and invited her to stay, even lending her money in the hope it would get her back on her feet. Of course, Zoe hasn't returned any of the cash. Alfie was then summoned to try and resolve the situation in confidence, with Zoe then creating an fabricated story so that her family would believe that Spanish loansharks were hunting her down. Zoe then fled to Barcelona, asserting that she'd done something 'so bad' that her family would disown her. Fearing the worst, Alfie decided to follow – telling his suspicious wife that he was actually going to stay with brother Spencer (Christopher Parker) in Australia. Kat became infuriated when the lies began to unravel, and Stacey was forced to create yet another lie. She said that Alfie was in a bad headspace after another cancer scare. Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) later assumed that he was actually helping out his estranged daughter Cherry, something which Kat then believed. Alfie, believing his game was up, recorded a tell-all voicemail message after one too many beers and sent it to Kat. She'd just bought The Queen Vic, and was far too distracted to listen. Stepping away of the chaos, she finally pressed play when a mugger (one of Okie's (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu) pals) stole the device and drove off. Next week, the phone is found by a member of the . Cue the doof doofs! It all kicks off when Joel Marshall (Max Murray) is on a mission to get some quick cash to pay for tickets to see his favourite influencer. Dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) – who knows the sort of misogynistic rubbish this influencer spouts – is firmly against it, and so he has to try and seek money from elsewhere. Meanwhile, Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) notices that cousin Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) has been interacting with malicious posts about her mum Stacey using a fake profile. After telling his parents, they decide to confront him about Joel's concerning influence on his behaviour. At the cafe, Joel asks Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) for work, and an intrigued Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) listens in. He's been instructed by Okie to wipe the stolen phones before selling them on, and Joel could be just the man for the job. As he sets to work, he encourages Tommy to get involved. The lads are stunned to find Kat's device, especially when they discover that Alfie's voicemail still hasn't been listened to. Pressing play, Tommy hears everything about Zoe.
