Bundee Aki reveals wife gave birth in car on same day as first Lions Test win
Aki was a second-half replacement in the first Test, coming off the bench after 57 minutes and all the while coping with the drama unfolding in Auckland. Aine is Aki's fifth child – all five have names beginning with A – and Aki's remarkable revelation details the sacrifices made by the touring side, who first got together for a training camp in Portugal in early June.
'I want to enjoy my break, my family time,' Aki said. 'I haven't seen my family for eight weeks. I have a newborn child who I haven't met yet. She was born when we were playing in Brisbane, so I haven't met her. Her name is Aine, so I'm looking forward to going and meeting my newborn child and we'll go from there.
'Credit to my wife [Kayla]. She's a powerful woman, a strong woman. I have to say it to her. If you only knew the story of what happened, it's a funny story in itself. It was a good day. I was in the hotel. I knew we were overdue. The missus calls me and she's like: 'Water hasn't broke but I'm going to the hospital, I'm feeling contractions.' I go: 'Yeah, fair enough.' She goes to the hospital, we're getting ready for the team meeting pre-match, and then she calls me and says she's on the way to the hospital, so I said: 'Fine, be safe.'
'Five minutes later, she sends a photo, her water broke. I was like: 'Cool, OK, are you almost there?' This is like 30 or 40 minutes away from the hospital, so I said: 'You'll be all right, Mum is there.' Ten minutes later, she video-calls me and I was like: 'Shit, what's going on?' I saw a baby on the video call, so she had it in the car on the way to the hospital. They're both strong and healthy, so happy days. I knew it was good juju so I knew we were going to have a good day.'
Aki went on to start the second and third Tests, struggling in appalling conditions on Saturday night in Sydney. After being part of the side that lost against South Africa four years ago, however, the 35-year-old was happy to settle for series success even if the targeted whitewash slipped by. 'We'll take the positive out of it,' he said.

'We won the series and that's all we got here for. We would have loved a clean sweep but it didn't happen. Only so many people can say they've been on two tours or have won a series.'

August 6 - Dominic Smith's go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning propelled the San Francisco Giants to a 4-2 victory over the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. Martin's changes pay off as Gassama double eases Rangers past Viktoria Plzen
Russell Martin's bold team selection paid off as Rangers defeated Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie at Ibrox. Martin hit out at some of his squad following their deflating 1-1 draw at Motherwell on Saturday, questioning mentality, egos and application and the captain, James Tavernier, and the midfielder Nicolas Raskin were the biggest names among the expected changes. Martin got the required reaction as the winger Djeidi Gassama scored after 15 minutes before the returning striker Cyriel Dessers added a second from the spot just before the interval. Gassama, signed this summer from Sheffield Wednesday, scored his side's third in the 51st minute to put the Govan side into a commanding lead and eventually a comfortable win. Martin said: 'I really enjoyed it. I'm proud of the guys. We had a really difficult evening on Saturday, just because there was not enough running in behind, aggression, intensity with the ball. We were not just ranting and raving, we showed a lot of clips and we tried to do a lot of learning in the meeting room and on the pitch in the last couple of days and they took it on brilliantly. 'The guys that came in the team were fantastic. We're going to need everyone. You don't get dropped from this team, people come in and out quite a lot because we need to be fresh.' Orioles ride 4th-inning surge en route to win over Phillies
August 6 - Trevor Rogers logged six solid innings and Coby Mayo hit a three-run homer to guide the visiting Baltimore Orioles to a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Rogers (5-2) struck out six while working around eight hits and a pair of walks for Baltimore, which had dropped the first two games of the series by a combined margin of 18-3. Mayo finished with two hits for the visitors in this one, as did Adley Rutschman. Ranger Suarez (8-5) allowed five runs and nine hits over 6 1/3 innings for Philadelphia, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. Trea Turner went 3-for-4 with an RBI in a losing effort. The Phillies failed to inflict much damage against Rogers despite recording at least one hit in every inning he pitched. Perhaps the most pivotal sequence for the Baltimore left-hander came in the third inning, when he struck out Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper after Turner tripled with one out. Riding the momentum from that escape, the Orioles scored four runs against Suarez in the top of the fourth. After Gunnar Henderson and Rutschman reached on singles to open the inning, Jeremiah Jackson laced a double into the left-field corner for his first-career RBI. One pitch later, Mayo launched a changeup from Suarez deep into the left-field seats for his fourth home run of the season. Philadelphia got on the board in the fifth, but Rogers limited the damage. After surrendering a walk and two hits to begin the frame -- including Turner's RBI single -- the southpaw retired Schwarber, Harper and Nick Castellanos to keep the score at 4-1. The hosts threatened again in the sixth, putting two runners on with two outs. But Rogers induced Rafael Marchan into an inning-ending grounder. Suarez allowed a one-out double to Alex Jackson in the seventh, followed by Jackson Holliday's run-scoring single that ended Suarez's night with the scoreboard reading 5-1. Philadelphia again had a scoring opportunity in the seventh, as Turner led off with a double. However, he never moved from second base as Dietrich Enns struck out Schwarber, Harper and Castellanos in succession.
