Dillon Thieneman, Makai Hughes and Matayo Uiagalelei named 2025 preseason All-Americans
Thieneman, a transfer from Purdue, amassed 104 total tackles (70 solo) and six passes defensed a season ago for the Boilermakers. Now headlining a talented Ducks secondary, he's expected to have an impactful 2025 campaign.
This season will also be Hughes' first in Eugene, as he spent the first two seasons of his career at Tulane where he totaled 2,779 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. He's immediately considered amongst the top running backs in the Big Ten and could have an explosive junior season behind Oregon's talented offensive line.
It's no surprise to see Uiagalelei on this list, as he was an absolute game-wrecker for the Ducks a season ago. His 38 total tackles (24 solo), 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles landed him on the Big Ten first-team. With another offseason under his belt, he has a chance to cement his name alongside the great pass rushers in program history.
Oregon doesn't lack for star power in 2025, a key reason for their No. 7 ranking in the preseason AP Poll and why they're expected to be a contender for a Big Ten and national title.

Wisconsin football transfer edge named to Comeback Player of the Year watch list
Wisconsin football transfer edge rusher Mason Reiger was named to the Comeback Player of the Year watch list on Tuesday. Reiger, who missed the entire 2024 slate with a knee injury, was one of 75 players across 51 programs to earn a spot on the preseason list. Including Reiger, a total of 13 players from the Big Ten appeared on the lengthy list. The 6-foot-5 outside linebacker joined Luke Fickell's program in December following four seasons with the Louisville Cardinals. In 32 total games from 2021-23, the Illinois native logged 49 total tackles (32 solo), 17 for loss, 8.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and three pass deflections. As a redshirt junior in 2023, Reiger tallied a career-best 22 tackles and 5.0 sacks. In a top-10 win over Notre Dame, he showed out with a season-high four tackles, two sacks for 12 yards and one forced fumble. As a transfer this winter, Reiger was considered 247Sports' No. 18 overall edge and a four-star prospect. His addition to the Badgers' defense, which accounted for 17 total sacks and 42 tackles for loss in 2024, will provide a much-needed boost in scenarios where Mike Tressel elects to hunt the opposing quarterback. Reiger projects to line up at right outside linebacker ahead of veteran Aaron Witt. Darryl Peterson, Tackett Curtis and Christian Alliegro are slated to accompany the first-year Badger as starters in the linebacker room -- a group that has traditionally performed at a high level at the center of the Wisconsin defense. Auburn claims 1958 national title despite LSU football finishing No. 1 in the AP Poll
LSU football won the national championship in 1958. Under head coach Paul Dietzel, the Tigers went 11-0 and finished No. 1 in the AP Poll. Now, Auburn is also claiming the 1958 championship. On Monday, Auburn announced its claim to seven more national championships: 1910, 1913, 1914, 1958, 1983, and 2004. Before the introduction of a national title game, national champions were debated. Usually, the team to finish atop the polls was crowned the champ, but with no official way to determine, there was room for debate, with multiple schools often claiming national titles. In 1958, Auburn finished No. 4 in the AP Poll, three spots behind LSU. Despite Auburn's claim, LSU is the 1958 national champion. According to Sports Reference Ratings, LSU's 1958 power rating was 21.50, over a touchdown better than Auburn at 14.05. LSU and Auburn had four common opponents in 1958: Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi State, and Alabama. LSU wins the battle there, too, with a better scoring margin vs. that group. Auburn's claim to a few of the newly minted national titles is fair, but 1958 belongs to Paul Dietzel and LSU.
