The first-year Patriots coach — never one to mince words when calling out the media — had a tense exchange Thursday with a reporter who inquired about comments made by star receiver Stefon Diggs over his Week 1 availability. 'I'm excited of where he's at and we'll see when Week 1 comes, but he's going to practice today. Hopefully, he helps us in the red zone, but we can't predict the future about Week 1. I just know he's going to be out there today, and he works hard and he cares, which are two important things,' Vrabel said. Vrabel, a Super Bowl-winning linebacker with the franchise, has put his own flair on the club since being named head coach in January. Beyond breaking up training camp skirmishes, Vrabel is making sure reporters are staying alert with questions. As the Patriots entered training camp in July, Vrabel scolded a Boston reporter for framing a question similarly to one that had already been asked. Michigan receives massive fine from NCAA for Connor Stalions violations
The NCAA has announced the penalties for the Michigan football program due to the Connor Stalions sign-stealing case. And while at first glance they might seem relatively light, the actual fines are going to be massive. First, let's mention the show-cause orders. Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stalions will be kept away from the football program for ten and eight years, respectively. That might not seem like a big deal--neither is currently affiliated with the program--but there are downsides to not being able to bring back a recent National Championship-winning coach for recruiting or alumni services. Also, Denard Robinson will not be allowed back with the program for at least three years. The NCAA determined that it would not suffice for Sherrone Moore, who deleted text messages that could have been relevant to the investigation, to only be suspended for the two games Michigan self-disciplined him for. He will also be suspended for a third game. However, the NCAA is not making him take that suspension in the 2025 season, and he can use it to sit out a cupcake game in 2026. There are also relatively minor recruiting penalties. The big one, though, are the fines. The NCAA didn't simply levy a basic number for the fines. So when people see the top line amount of just $50,000, this might seem like a slap on the wrist. However, the other financial penalties are staggering. Let's break them down: First, the scholarships. Looking at Michigan's data for athletic scholarships and doing some rough math, 85 football scholarships (though now up to 105 are allowed) should average to about $6 million. So 10% of that is another $600,000 in fines. And the other two fines are even bigger. 10% of Michigan's football budget is absolutely massive. The numbers aren't public yet, but coaching salaries alone are well over $20 million. The total athletic budget is about $250 million (last year), and football is probably somewhere in the $65-85 million range. 10% of that is looking at around $6.5-8.5 million. Lastly, the postseason revenue. This number isn't fixed, and it depends on several factors. The Big Ten splits up all of its bowl revenue evenly between conference members (some newer members don't get a full share yet). Last year, between College Football Playoff bonuses and base contracts, the total number was over $160 million, or about $10 million per full-share school. In the Playoff era (before expansion), the yearly number could vary anywhere from $5-10 million. So Michigan losing two years of postseason revenue could by itself cost $20 million. All in all, the Wolverines are probably looking at well over $30 million in total fines. No wins were vacated, but this will be the largest fine in college athletics history--by a significant margin.

Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday as both sides look to begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaigns with a win. In the afternoon headline slot on Sky Sports, this blockbuster clash between two of England's biggest clubs should provide plenty of entertainment as well as showcasing several new signings for both the home team and their visitors, from Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi. Date, kick-off time and venue Manchester United vs Arsenal is scheduled for a 4:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The match will take place at Old Trafford. Man Utd vs Arsenal team news Viktor Gyokeres is in line to make his Premier League debut this weekend, with Mikel Arteta facing a big call over whether to throw the Swedish striker straight into the action from the start against his old Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim. Last season's No9 Kai Havertz is another option up top and the Arsenal manager has not ruled out the possibility of Havertz and Gyokeres lining up together, with both men scoring in the team's final pre-season outing last weekend. Gabriel Jesus, however, is still side-lined as he recovers from a knee injury sustained midway through last season. Elsewhere in attack, Bukayo Saka picks himself on the right wing and Gabriel Martinelli - fresh from a strong performance against Athletic Club - is perhaps the likeliest option on the left. Noni Madueke is still settling in after his summer switch from London rivals Chelsea, and Leandro Trossard is seemingly nearing an exit while he recovers from a groin injury. In midfield, Martin Zubimendi looks to be gelling nicely with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. David Raya will start in goal behind William Saliba and Gabriel, with competition at full-back between Ben White and Jurrien Timber on the right and Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly on the left. White has featured more heavily in pre-season as Timber dealt with an injury that kept the Dutch defender sidelined until Arsenal's last two outings, and therefore could get the nod from Arteta to begin the campaign. Calafiori caught the eye against Athletic Cub last weekend and may be given a chance to cause damage down United's right flank in the spaces left open by Amorim's wing-back of choice on that side - which, based on pre-season, looks increasingly likely to be converted winger Amad Diallo. Patrick Dorgu has seemingly emerged as United's first-choice left wing-back, meanwhile. Amorim's back three on Sunday is likely to be comprised of Leny Yoro on the right and Matthijs de Ligt or Harry Maguire centrally, plus either the other one of that latter duo, Luke Shaw or youngster Ayden Heaven on the left in the continued injury-enforced absence of Lisandro Martinez. Fellow defender Noussair Mazraoui is also expected to remain out, but returns here are possible for first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana - who missed all of pre-season due to a hamstring issue, with Altay Bayindir deputising - and Joshua Zirkzee. Rasmus Hojlund looks to be nearing a loan move away from Old Trafford in light of Sesko's arrival, with the former RB Leipzig man potentially set for his Premier League debut against the Gunners. Behind him, new No10 options Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo could also feature for the first time in a competitive match for the Red Devils, with Bruno Fernandes likely occupying a playmaking central midfield role alongside one of the more defence-minded Manuel Ugarte or Casemiro. Kobbie Mainoo is another option there, though United are looking to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window closes. Mason Mount put in some stand-out performances during pre-season, but may still struggle to dislodge the new arrivals from their attacking midfield slots. On paper that could spell a goal-fest, particularly with the Red Devils still defensively suspect. The Gunners did have the Premier League's best defensive record last year, though, and haven't lost any of their backline personnel. But Amorim will be encouraged by his side eking out a result last time around, and his squad could give Arteta's men a run for their money. Arsenal to win, 3-2. Head to head (h2h) history and results United have a slight edge in the illustrious history of this rivalry, and indeed have an unbeaten record in their last two meetings with Arsenal in all competitions - combining a penalty shoot-out victory in the FA Cup last season with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in May. The Gunners won four straight against them before that, though, with a combined score-line of 9-3. Prior to that, the two sides traded 3-1 victories at home in 2022. All in all, United have won, drawn and lost two each of their last six matches against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
