Sharing a video on X on Tuesday, Rahul questioned the use of "Not Found Suitable" category to disqualify applicants.
"Not Found Suitable is the new Manuism now. Qualified SC/ST/OBC candidates are being deliberately 'disqualified' - to keep them away from education and leadership. Babasaheb had said: Education is the biggest weapon for equality. But the Modi government is busy blunting that weapon. In Delhi University, more than 60% of the reserved posts of professors and more than 30% of the reserved posts of associate professors have been kept vacant by calling them NFS," he said.
"This is no exception - IITs, Central Universities, the same conspiracy is going on everywhere. NFS is an attack on the Constitution. NFS is a betrayal of social justice. This is not just a fight for education and employment – it is a fight for rights, respect and participation. I spoke to DUSU students - now together we will respond to every anti-reservation move of BJP/RSS with the power of the Constitution," he added.

1 2 Lucknow: Union home minister Amit Shah Sunday said here on Sunday that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath , Uttar Pradesh has shed its legacy of lawlessness and UP has seen a remarkable turnaround. Speaking at an event at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow to hand over appointment letters to 60,244 police constables selected in the country's largest-ever police recruitment drive, Shah said: "Goons no longer dictate terms in the state. The rule of law has been established. It is now our mission that within the next five years, we will create a system where an FIR is followed by a verdict from the Supreme Court within three years. " Shah termed the event a "historic ceremony" for Uttar Pradesh Police. Shah praised UP's transparent police recruitment process, and emphasized that no bribes, recommendations, or caste-based bias were involved unlike the previous govts in the state. "Each of you was selected purely on merit from over 48 lakh applications," he told the recruits. Over 12,000 women have joined the force, with Shah commending their confidence and readiness. He also personally handed over appointment letters to 15 constables. He lauded the state's decision to reserve 20% of posts for women, noting that over 12,000 of the recruits were women. "When I met some of the young women today, their confidence and determination were written all over their faces," he said. "Uttar Pradesh now has the largest police force in the country, equipped with command centres, AI-based tools, PCR vans, and on-wheel forensic labs. He urged the new officers to uphold the modern policing ethos of security, service, and sensitivity," he said. Shah credited CM Yogi Adityanath for restoring law and order in UP. "Before 2017, the state's law and order was in decline but since Yogi ji took charge, UP Police has touched new heights," he said. He pointed out that police modernisation in UP was stagnant from 2014 to 2017 but transformed post-2017 with Modi-Yogi governance synergy. Highlighting three new criminal laws, Shah said these reforms would ensure that citizens receive justice from FIR to the Supreme Court within three years. "You are not just joining a force — you're becoming the face of justice, security, and empathy in 'Amrit Kaal'. Be strict with criminals, but a protector to the poor, backward, and tribal communities," he said. A total of 60,244 constables, including 12,048 women, were recruited by the UP Police recruitment and promotion board (UPPRPB), which received more than 48 lakh applications. The recruitment process was completed under the then director of UPPRPB Rajeev Krishna, who is currently the director general of police. With the Sunday's inductions, the total strength of the force now reached nearly four lakh personnel, which includes around 36,000 women personnel. This strength covers all non-gazetted ranks across various wings of the police, excluding home guards, and marks a significant push toward modernising the police force, a senior police officer added.

Murugan meet organisers must ensure communal harmony: HC
Madurai: Modifying certain conditions imposed by Madurai city police while granting permission to Hindu Munnani (HM) to conduct the Lord Murugan devotees conference in Madurai on June 22, Madras high court has observed that the organisers must ensure that communal harmony is maintained. The court was hearing a petition filed by HM seeking a direction to the authorities to permit them to set up temporary miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan and perform pujas from June 10 to 22 ahead of the conference. Another petition challenged certain conditions imposed by police in its June 12 order while granting permission for the conference. The conditions required participants to obtain passes from their respective district police, not to conduct a bike rally, obtain permission from HR & CE department and Madurai corporation, and not to use drone cameras. Ramalingam of Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam filed an impleading application saying the event is creating unnecessary problems for the common man in the name of religion. Another impleading application filed by Aranganathan, president of Archakar Payirchipetra Manavargal Sangam, said installing temporary miniatures of these temples is against agamic rules for temple rituals and idol consecration. "The exercise of religious freedom must be harmonised with a broader objective of maintaining public order, morality, and communal harmony," he said. The judge observed that the Religious Institution (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988, is available to prevent the misuse of religious institutions for political and other parties. In this case, the state as well as the impleading petitioners apprehend that in the guise of a religious event, the organisers may antagonise other communities and there is a possibility of communal clash. "The petitioner is organising this event as a religious conference for the devotees of Lord Murugan and for the well-being of the universe. With that being the object, the organisers of the event must strictly comply with the observations of the Supreme Court and ensure that communal harmony is maintained," the judge observed. If any participant applies for vehicle pass, the police officer concerned shall issue it in 24 hours. If rejected, it has to be with valid reasons. The court said the condition mandating permission from HR & CE department before installing the miniatures was imposed by police in a mechanical manner. The condition for permission from corporation authorities is also not relevant, it said. The court modified the condition on use of drones by permitting use of two of them for covering the events. Since the event is to be conducted near a highway, necessary police personnel may be deployed to ensure free flow of traffic, the judge directed, and disposed of the petition challenging the conditions imposed for the conference. The judge also allowed the other petition and set aside the order passed by the police rejecting permission for setting up miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan.

PM Modi reaches Cyprus, Turkey's rival & EU chair next year, to deepen ties
Becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Cyprus in 23 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Mediterranean island country Sunday where he was greeted at the airport by President Nikos Christodoulides. Touched by this 'special gesture' of welcoming him at the airport, Modi said, 'This visit will add significant momentum to India-Cyprus relations, especially in areas like trade, investment and more.' The two sides are expected to sign multi-level cooperation agreements when the two leaders meet Monday for talks. Cyprus is the Prime Minister's first stop on a three-nation tour that will also take him to Canada for the G7 meeting and Croatia in the Balkans. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the last Prime Minister to visit Cyprus in 2002. Modi's choice of Cyprus for his first foreign visit after Operation Sindoor is a signal to neighbouring Turkey which openly supported Pakistan during the recent hostilities. Cyprus, which has been engaged in territorial disputes with Turkey which invaded the island in 1974 and occupied its north, has consistently supported India's position on Kashmir, cross-border terrorism and UN Security Council reforms. Besides countering the Islamabad-Ankara alignment, the visit to the Mediterranean nation also comes at a time when Delhi is looking to build bridges with Europe – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar just concluded a six-day visit to France and Belgium. Cyprus is set to hold the rotating presidency of the EU Council in 2026, and this visit by the Prime Minister will work to deepen India-EU collaboration. 'Cyprus is a close friend and an important partner in the Mediterranean region and the EU. The visit provides an opportunity to build upon the historical bonds and expand our ties in the areas of trade, investment, security, technology and promote people-to-people exchanges,' Modi said in a departure statement Sunday morning. He will be received at the Presidential Palace Monday and, according to Euronews, might even be given a tour of the ceasefire line in Nicosia by the President himself. The visit to the Green Line, the UN-controlled buffer zone, if it happens, will be a strong message to Turkey on the North Cyprus issue. It will be a response to Turkey's support to Pakistan on the Kashmir issue – Pakistan also backs Turkey on North Cyprus. The official talks Monday between the two leaders will also touch upon the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Cyprus's maritime connectivity and strategic location makes it a potential hub in the IMEC project, which was mooted by India during its G20 Presidency in 2023. As India seeks to diversify its energy sources, Cyprus being a key player in eastern Mediterranean natural gas exploration becomes crucial. In fact, strong India-Cyprus ties may help India get broad-based EU support for its various global initiatives, besides the IMEC. Locked in territorial disputes with Turkey and facing security challenges, Cyprus is looking to expand defence cooperation and will welcome any assistance from India. Delhi is also aiming to consolidate international support following Operation Sindoor, and the fact that Modi's stopover at Cyprus precedes his departure for Canada and attendance at the G7 Summit is also telling. 'This three-nation tour is also an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in our fight against cross-border terrorism, and to galvanise global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,' Modi said ahead of his departure Sunday morning. From Cyprus, he departs Monday for Kananaskis to attend the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. While the agenda for the G7 huddle is focussed on building supply chains for critical minerals, energy security and countering transnational crime, discussions could be on the raging Israel-Iran conflict and containing escalation. Modi is likely to have discussions with various stakeholders on the issue and express India's oft-repeated stance on dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. The last leg of the Prime Minister's three-nation trip will take him to Croatia, where he will meet President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. 'Both our countries enjoy centuries-old close cultural links.
