Coincidence or not, 'Grow a Garden' soared to popularity around the same time that Take-Two Interactive announced it would delay the launch of its wildly anticipated 'Grand Theft Auto 6″ until next year. In late June, the gardening game logged 21.6 million concurrent players, surpassing 'Fortnite''s previous record of 15.2 million according to Roblox. Analysts who follow Roblox's stock say 'Grow a Garden' is helping boost the company's revenue and will push the company's quarterly earnings numbers above Wall Street's expectations.
While it's not clear if the 'GTA' audience flocked to this simple gardening game to pass the time until then, the timing reignited the age-old debate about who gamers are and what titles are taken seriously by the video game establishment. It happened with 'Candy Crush,' with puzzle games, with 'Animal Crossing.' Are people who play cozy games true gamers? Or is the title reserved for the folks who shoot enemies in 'Call of Duty' or drive around creating mayhem in 'GTA'?
'There's a huge percentage of gamers that play Roblox and the actual industry just views it as like this esoterically immature platform of weird gameplay habits,' said Janzen Madsen, the New Zealand-based CEO and founder of Splitting Point studios, which acquired the game from its teenage creator. 'Well, I actually think in five years this is what player expectation is gonna be. And because you guys haven't embraced it, like you're not going to know how to make games.'

To start growing your garden, you'll need a Roblox account. The game will start you out with an empty plot and some money — sheckles — and a starter seed. From there, you can plant seeds, harvest and sell your crops and buy more seeds, animals or tools for your garden. While it is possible to play the game without spending real-world money, it will take longer. Once you sell enough crops, you earn money to buy more expensive seeds beyond basic carrots and blueberries.
'For me, I just, I really want to get all the rarest stuff. I'm a completionist, so I want everything and that's what's fun for me,' said

Bozdech said that 'if you have the right supervision and guidance,' Roblox can be a positive experience for kids, allowing them to create their own designs or practice coding, for instance.
'Something like 'Grow a Garden,' particularly, is a nice opportunity maybe for parents and kids to play together,' she said.
And perhaps the slow cultivating of a magical garden can benefit parents, too.
'It's hitting a nerve, you know?' Bozdech said. 'People need an escape from the world, I think we all do.'

The First New Live-Action ‘Power Rangers' Material In Years Is… a Fortnite Ad

When celebrations for Power Rangers' 30th anniversary wrapped up a few years ago with the release of Once and Always and the conclusion of Cosmic Fury, the franchise's future was left in doubt. Rumored reboots stalled, Hasbro picked apart the series' legacy at auction and through AI-enhanced MMPR rereleases—even with the news that Disney would once again become the home of a new era of Power Rangers earlier this year, right now the series' live-action form has felt dormant. That is, until today, in a very peculiar way. This morning Epic Games unveiled the next season of Fortnite, 'Shock 'N Awesome', which is set to come to the battle royale shooter at the end of this week. Bringing a Starship Troopers-esque insectoid invasion to the game's island setting, it seems like players are going to have to contend with more than just each other whenever they drop from the battle bus… but they won't be alone. Well, for a price. The first major collaboration confirmed for the new season today is with Power Rangers, which will bring the Mighty Morphin' team (who else would it be?) to the game. And do so in style, as Epic confirmed the crossover in the only way it could: a '90s-nostalgia-bomb live-action trailer that sees the Red, Yellow, and Blue Rangers team up with some familiar Fortnite faces to battle some bugs. The trailer itself is great, but it is kind of ludicrous that the first official live-action Power Rangers material we've seen since 2023 at this point is for a Fortnite ad. A small price to pay to watch Jason (or Rocky!) spin a minigun around blasting giant bugs with pyrotechnic effects while a remix of the Mighty Morphin' theme blares in the background, I suppose. A presumably less-small price is what you'll be paying to play as the Power Rangers in Fortnite. They won't immediately drop in-game when 'Shock N' Awesome' releases this week (although it appears that Tommy Oliver as the Green Ranger will be part of the season's battle pass, at least), but they will be available in the Fortnite store from mid-August, according to Epic, as a skin bundle of all five primary Rangers, as well as extra accessories, including a music track for the new theme remix that can be used in Fortnite Festival and other areas of the game. They're not the only Power Rangers additions to the new season, however. Owners of the new seasonal battle pass will be able to do quests to unlock a Dino Megazord skin from September 16, tying into a midseason event that will let players 'power up' as the Megazord—presumably similar to how the game's recent collaboration with Godzilla played out, letting players stomp around the island. Fortnite's new season will launch August 7. Want more io9 news? ‘Fortnite' Chapter 6, Season 4 Trailer Reveals Power Rangers, Megazord

In Fortnite's eternal quest to continue smacking action figures together, we're starting to get official previews of the upcoming Chapter 6, Season 4, which we now know is called 'Shock and Awesome' and features a map-wide bug invasion. After a recent reveal that female Halo Spartans are coming to the game, a first since Master Chief showed up in 2020, new promos, including a new trailer, have started that feature another franchise, Power Rangers. Because why not? The new key art, seen above, shows off Tommy Oliver's Green Ranger, along with what appears to be a giant Megazord looming behind everything. That's supposed to be something that launches later in the season on September 16. In mid-August, there will be a 'Mighty Morphin'' bundle featuring the Red, Black, Pink, Yellow and Blue rangers. Curious how much that will be, or if those are being treated like alt styles for one skin. I think I probably know the answer to that. Here's a new trailer for all this: FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder So far as we know, the Halo Spartan will be the Tier 1 battle pass skin, and then Green Ranger will be in the battle pass as well, likely near or at the top, as tends to happen with crossovers. You have absolutely no idea how many Power Rangers movies and shows there have been over the years. I'm old enough to have watched the original, but this series never, ever went away. We are at thirty different Power Rangers projects since 1994 which include the likes of: Zeo, Turbo, Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Jungle Fury, RPM, Super Samurai, Megaforce, Super Megaforce, Dino Charge, Dino Super Charge, Ninja Steel, Super Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers, Dino Fury, and finally, 2023's Cosmic Fury. Are they done? Almost certainly not. Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury are both on Netflix, which has taken over the Power Rangers mantle, so no doubt things will continue from here. But for Fortnite, these are the unsurpassed OGs. Of course, Halo and Power Rangers are not the only things in this season. There are a number of original Fortnite skins and new additions to the game like a triple barrel gatling gun that looks ridiculous. Ridiculously fun, I suppose. PEAK Developers Say They'd Rather You Pirate It Than Play 'Roblox Slop Ripoff'

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors PEAK is one of the biggest games on the planet right now, after the goofy mountain climbing game shot to mass popularity following its release. The multiplayer climbing game was released on Steam on June 16, 2025, but its popularity spiked a week later when it started appearing in Twitch streams and YouTube videos from popular creators. Since then, it's endured massive popularity with an all-time peak of 114,492 concurrent players on Steam, bigger than even some triple-A games. A screenshot of three players climbing to the top of a cliff in PEAK. A screenshot of three players climbing to the top of a cliff in PEAK. Team PEAK As often happens with popular viral games, imitators weren't far behind, and one such imitator caught the attention of co-developer Aggro Crab Games. The game in question is a Roblox game called CLIFF, which looks to have been developed by PewStudio. CLIFF, which seems to use artwork and imagery very similar to PEAK, and has over 4.8 million "visits" on Roblox. PewStudio also directly admits to being inspired by PEAKin its description, offering a "special thanks to those amazing creators." Aggro Crab Games didn't appreciate the special thanks, calling out the game on X (formerly Twitter) and encouraging players to pirate PEAK instead of playing the Roblox game. "tbh would rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled @Roblox slop ripoff," the post reads, alongside screenshots of the game's lobby and store page. Fellow co-developer Landfall Games agreed, quoting the post with a simple "Cosigned." As with many Roblox games, CLIFF offers a number of microtransactions, which are the primary way that Roblox developers make money from their creations. CLIFF has microtransactions for five items, ranging from 49 Robux (roughly $0.60 USD) for a "parrot friend" to 200 Robux (roughly $2.50 USD) for a "climbing pickaxe." To buy all of the microtransactions in the game once would cost roughly $8 — which is how much PEAK costs on Steam up-front. At the time of writing, PEAK is only available on Steam, but both developers for the game have said they want to bring the game to consoles in the future.
