Cops seize over RM13mil in drugs, five arrested
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that five suspects were arrested following additional investigations into the syndicate.
'This is a follow-up from a case we cracked in March,' he told a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 20) at the Selangor police headquarters.
'On Monday, the police conducted four raids in the Klang Valley, leading to the five arrested aged 33 to 64 years old.
Raids were carried out in Puchong and Sri Petaling, which included two residences.
'The last raid at a car park near the Sri Petaling LRT station led to the arrest of the coordinator of the syndicate,' he said.
All of the suspects had criminal records, with one having 13 prior offences.
'We believe there are more members linked to this group, and we will trace them down. The coordinator, we believe, also reports to someone higher,' he said.
The police found a total of RM425.25kg of drugs worth RM13.6mil.
The drugs were believed to be meant for distribution in the Klang Valley as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
'So far, we have detected their drugs being sent over there via air transport,' he said.
All suspects have been remanded until next Monday.

Initial investigations indicate the first and second suspects acted as drug transporters. The third and fourth suspects served as storekeepers for the narcotics operation. Their modus operandi involved using terraced houses as storage facilities before local distribution. Police suspect the drugs were also intended for distribution to Sabah and Sarawak. Authorities did not rule out possible smuggling operations into Kalimantan, Indonesia. 'Urine tests showed three of the suspects tested positive for ketamine.' Hussein confirmed that all suspects have prior criminal records involving crime and drugs. He identified them as remnants of a major syndicate previously dismantled in Bagan Datuk, Perak last March. All suspects have been remanded for seven days starting from yesterday until August 25. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
