Yahoo09-03-2025

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Saturday morning, hundreds of job seekers connected with employers across the panhandle at the 38th Annual Bay County job fair.
Over 30 employers set up at Gulf Coast State College, looking to fill over 500 positions. The event featured openings in healthcare, education, law enforcement, hospitality, manufacturing, and more.
'This is our premier hiring event of the year, and we host Target with all throughout the year at our job center. But this is the big one, that there's something for everyone. And again, we represent all the major industries here. So you'll probably find something that you are qualified for here,' CareerSource Gulf Coast Communications Manager Becky Samarripa said.

The open jobs ranged from part-time, full-time, and seasonal work with openings for those with all types of work experience. With the variety, many job seekers found success at the job fair.
'I love how these are all local, so these are all people that are here right now maybe have the opportunity elsewhere, but they're kind of hiring immediately in the area and in the community, which I'm really looking forward to. I am going to send my resume to a few people that I talked to, got some good cards, some good information, and I just made those connections. That, hopefully, will help me down the line,' job seeker Brooke Gasser said.
Event organizers also reserved an hour before the official start time for veterans and the military community.
'We gave the veterans an opportunity to come in and meet with us first, which was amazing. That turnout was great. And the event that they put here together; it's first class all the way. I've had an opportunity to meet with so many great people, so many talented individuals that fit our needs here. So, we're proud to be here,' Peaden Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electrical Human Resources Director Mark Schneider said.

Major Food Supplier That Supports Whole Foods, Walmart and Target Hit by Cyberattack—Here's What to Know

Major Food Supplier That Supports Whole Foods, Walmart and Target Hit by Cyberattack—Here's What to Know originally appeared on Parade. In our increasingly digital world, it's becoming harder and harder to distinguish between what's real and what's been generated by some all-powerful computer that feeds off of the data we give it to inform us of things we could probably find out by doing our own independent research. Sure, it's incredibly fast and in some cases democratizing, but is it really better to rely on software and programming to tell us everything we need to know in less time than it takes to warm up a slice of pizza? What about, I don't know, just picking up a book? We don't even know ourselves anymore. Am I AI? Am I dancer? The answer remains inconclusive. 😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔 Regardless, it's been said that once a fuse is lit, it can no longer be put out, and it appears my friends that we're only seeing the beginnings of the flame. With most systems being digitized entirely, or at least backed up to some version of the cloud, without the right security and protocols in place, the information stored in these seemingly invisible data centers is ripe for cyber criminals to have a field day. Add in an ease to the rules in place that protect us from such attacks, and it's only a matter of time before catastrophe strikes. In the case of national food supplier United Natural Foods, that's exactly what Rhode Island-based food distributor shared in a June 9 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that they had discovered unauthorized activity on internal networks, causing major disruptions to their supply chain and ability to fulfill orders. As one of the largest U.S. grocery distributors of organic goods and healthier food options, United Natural supplies chains such as Whole Foods, Walmart, and Target, all of which are considered major retailers by consumers. To stop the attack, the company has taken certain systems offline and is investigating the source of the threat; however, it does anticipate that the incident will continue to affect its ability to fulfill orders. While we can't say for certain that we'll see any empty shelves, attacks like these are becoming increasingly more common, and there is the potential for it to disrupt our supply chain long-term. Not saying the solution is to go back to paper ledgers and filing cabinets, but maybe it would be a good idea to stop worrying about people exercising their right to peacefully organize, and more time actually protecting each other. Egg prices fall to lowest level in months: WREG Price Tracker

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Eggs are at their lowest price in months, and some of the items you need for your summer picnic may be pricey. That's what we learned in our latest edition of the WREG Price early February, WREG has been tracking the prices of more than 20 items at the grocery store, plus the cost of gas. Students are now out of school for summer break, which means families are likely spending a bit more to keep the pantry and fridge stocked for hungry teens and kiddos. With that said, we decided to focus the May edition on just how much more it may cost to feed the kids. Plus, we looked at picnic staples just in time for the Prices Fall to Lowest in Months Let's start with some good news about a grocery staple and the one item that's been a hot topic since last we first started tracking prices in early February, the average price (across the three stores reviewed) for a dozen eggs was $4.22. That climbed to $5.75 in mid-March. Two months later, in mid-May, the average price was down to $3.82. By the end of May, the average price had fallen to $3.25, and for the first time in months, we saw prices below $3 a dozen. While we are still tracking data for early June, those lower prices have continued. For example, for the last two weeks, a dozen eggs were $2.96 at Walmart and $2.99 at Target. Prices for Summer Staples With kids out for summer break, we reviewed prices for all the staples families might buy to keep the fridge and pantry stocked as everyone spends more time at home, as well as items people might use for their weekend barbecues. Milk-$3.69 — Ten percent higher than when we first started tracking prices. Cheerios-$4.74-Family Size — Much lower than the prices in previous weeks. Turkey Sandwich Meat-$3.91 — Was $.10 higher than it had been running. Doritos-$4.89 — Eleven percent higher than when we first started tracking prices and about a quarter higher than late April. Ground beef (1lb)-$6.74 — Up $.80 compared to when we first started tracking prices, and the item that had the biggest price difference. Bud Light (12-pack)-$14.87 — A little lower than the price ran in March and April, but higher than early February. Diet Coke-$9.05 — Price was $.50 more than it was three months ago. (*Prices listed above are averages across all three stores from which data is collected. Based on prices listed online, the week of May 12th.*) Items where price remained unchanged or saw a minor difference compared to previous weeks: Bananas Bread Jelly Tomato Folgers Coffee Gas Prices Fall in Time for Summer Travel There is also good news for the summer travel season. Gas prices across Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee have hovered below $3 per gallon of regular unleaded. Since we began gathering data for the WREG Price Tracker, we have always found the lowest gas prices in DeSoto County and the highest in Crittenden County, Arkansas, with Shelby County right in the middle. Current gas prices: (as of June 10, 2025 – Source: AAA) National Average – $3.12 Mississippi – $2.63 DeSoto County – $2.59 Tennessee – $2.69 Shelby County – $2.72 Arkansas – $2.74 Crittenden County – $2.75 Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
