Sultan of Perak's office lodges police report over false TikTok claim of royal wedding at palace
Comptroller of the Perak Royal Household Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, in a statement, said that the police report was lodged on July 31.
Meor Hezbullah clarified that neither a royal wedding nor a live broadcast will take place on Aug 7.
'The Office of His Royal Highness neither recognises nor is connected to the TikTok account owner and has not appointed anyone as an official spokesperson for palace events, including royal weddings.
'The Office stresses that the content shared by the TikTok account is completely false and may cause public confusion,' he added.
Previously, a TikTok user under the name 'The King' had uploaded a 58-second video on the social media platform, claiming that a royal wedding would be held at Istana Iskandariah Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, from August 7 to 17.
The footage also alleged that the solemnisation ceremony would be broadcast live on a local television station on Aug 7 at 11.30 am.
It also claimed the royal couple will be in Tamparuli, Sabah, for a week starting Aug 17 as part of the alleged wedding. — Bernama

Penang Welfare Dept still unable to trace families of 18 kids rescued from warehouse
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 8 — The Penang Welfare Department is still trying to trace the parents or guardians of 18 children rescued from a warehouse in Bukit Mertajam last month, with the lack of documentation for most of them proving to be a major obstacle. State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said today that 12 of the children lack any personal documents, leaving their citizenship status unknown. 'Out of the 20 children rescued from the warehouse, only seven had proper documentation. The guardians for two of the children have since come forward to take them home,' Lim said on the sidelines of the AI Horizon 2025 conference. Among the 18 children remaining in state care is a newborn baby, who also does not have a birth certificate. The children, all under the age of 16, were rescued by the welfare department from two premises, including a warehouse that was allegedly used as an illegal childcare centre, on July 21. 'We've been trying to trace their guardians or family members, but the lack of documentation has made it difficult,' Lim said, adding that the department may need to make public appeals through the media for relatives to come forward. Initial investigations suggest that some of the children could have been placed at the premises for at least two years. The rescued children have been interviewed by psychologists, and most of them can only speak Mandarin. 'We are still investigating their citizenship status with the help of several other agencies,' Lim said. The children are currently placed in a safe facility under the care of the state welfare department after the department obtained a temporary custody order from the Bukit Mertajam court. 'All the children are receiving proper care, and the welfare department is also providing activities that support their physical and emotional well-being,' she said.

Peaceful Assembly Act ruling clears ex-Muda sec-gen of protest charge
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — The Magistrate's Court here today acquitted and discharged former Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) Amir Hariri Abd Hadi on a charge of failing to duly inform the police police before holding a protest gathering on the littoral combat ship (LCS) issue in August 2022. Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan ordered Amir Hariri to be freed following an application by the prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Anis Wahidah Mohamad. The prosecution had previously requested that the case against Amir Hariri be withdrawn, following the Federal Court's ruling that Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 was unconstitutional. "After hearing the submissions from both parties and the Federal Court's ruling, as well as the fact that the cas has been remitted to this court for decision by the High Court, besides the prosecution having not yet received an order to re-prosecute the accused, the court ordered that the accused be acquitted and discharged," said the Magistrate. The court also ordered that the RM4,000 bail be returned. In today's proceedings, Amir Hariri was represented by lawyer Rajsurian Pillai. On July 1 this year, the Federal Court ruled that Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act, which provides punishment for an organiser who fails to give five days' notice to the police before holding an assembly, is unconstitutional. The court then ordered that Amir Hariri's case be returned to the High Court for a fair and prompt resolution. Amir Hariri is charged, as the organiser, with failing to notify the police five days before holding the protest rally that was held in front of the Sogo Complex, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, here at 2 pm on Aug 14, 2022. The charge was brought under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, which provides a maximum fine of RM10,000 upon conviction. — Bernama
