Did Rajnath Singh officially confirm women pilots' role in Operation Sindoor on terror infra in Pakistan?
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday praised the exceptional role of women in the Indian Armed Forces, offering what appears to be the first official confirmation of women pilots and soldiers playing a significant part in Operation Sindoor — India's recent counter-terrorism campaign against Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
"During Operation Sindoor, women pilots and other women soldiers have played an important role in the action against terrorism in Pakistan and PoK," Rajnath Singh said on Thursday.
Addressing the flag-in ceremony of the Indian Navy Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini, which completed its nearly eight-month-long circumnavigation of the globe under the voyage 'Navika Sagar Parikrama II', Rajnath Singh highlighted the bravery and dedication of the female crew members Lieutenant Commander Roopa A and Lieutenant Commander Dilna K.
The vessel reached Goa's coast earlier on Thursday, having set sail from the Naval Ocean Sailing Node in Goa on 2 October 2024.
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh commended the crew's extraordinary feat of navigating approximately 25,000 nautical miles (around 45,000 kilometres) across the vast oceans.
'To travel such a distance while facing the loneliness of the sea is a remarkable act of courage,' he remarked.
Rajnath Singh empathised with the isolation endured by the sailors, noting the absence of human contact and even wildlife during their prolonged voyage.
The Defence Minister emphasised the growing and vital role of women across the Indian Armed Forces.
'Today, the daughters of our country are fulfilling their responsibilities with distinction, from the heights of Siachen to the depths of the sea,' he said.
He noted that military institutions have progressively opened their doors to women, citing the recent passing out of 17 women cadets from the National Defence Academy (NDA) this month.
Most notably, Singh confirmed the active participation of women in Operation Sindoor, stating, 'During Operation Sindoor, women pilots and other women soldiers have played an important role in the action against terrorism in Pakistan and PoK.'
On 21 May, Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi interacted with the INSV Tarini crew as they crossed into the Northern Hemisphere, marking the final leg of their circumnavigation. The Indian Navy praised their exemplary skills, team spirit, and the pride they brought to the nation.
The vessel's return journey was ceremonially flagged off from the Royal Cape Yacht Club in Cape Town, South Africa, on 15 April, with dignitaries and members of the Indian diaspora in attendance.

Kichan, Menar in Rajasthan get Ramsar tags
The Union environment ministry announced on Wednesday that two new wetlands — Kichan in Phalodi and Menar in Udaipur — from Rajasthan have been designated as Ramsar sites, taking up the list of such wetlands in India to 91. Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention, headquartered in Gland, Switzerland. Commenting on the development, PM Modi said on X, 'Great news! HT had reported on May 19 that in Rajasthan, a small village, less than 50 km off Udaipur, has emerged as a biodiversity hotspot with sightings of several threatened and near-threatened bird species over the last few years. These sightings and community-driven conservation efforts have bestowed Menar with the moniker of 'bird village'. Recent sightings include species such as cinereous vulture, long-billed vulture, Himalayan griffon vulture and Egyptian vulture in the grasslands, besides Asian wooly-necked stork, ferruginous pochard, Dalmatian pelican, and black-tailed godwit in the Menar wetlands. India has the largest number of Ramsar wetlands in Asia, according to the ministry. Under the Convention on Wetlands, an intergovernmental treaty for conservation of wetlands, contracting parties are expected to identify and place suitable wetlands onto the List of Wetlands of International Importance, or the Ramsar List.

Infra projects worth Rs 24,000 crore on the anvil to decongest Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a Rs 24,000-crore infrastructure overhaul for the Capital. Addressing a press conference Wednesday, Gupta said major arterial roads — Rohtak Road (Punjabi Bagh to Nangloi), Ashram to Badarpur, and MG Road — have now been handed over to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). These roads will be upgraded into signal-free corridors with complete supporting infrastructure, including drainage, side lanes, and real-time monitoring systems. 'Earlier, multiple agencies led to fragmented execution and chronic waterlogging. Now, NHAI will be the single-point authority, with support from the Delhi Public Works Department,' she said. The press conference was held following a high-level meeting chaired by Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Union MoS Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Cabinet Ministers, MPs, and senior officials from key departments. Gupta underlined several critical initiatives aimed at easing congestion and reducing pollution. These include: -A 7-km underground tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road -An elevated road from INA to the airport (eventually connecting Faridabad and Gurgaon) -Extensions of Urban Extension Road-II linking Alipur to Tronica City and the Delhi–Dehradun route. -A feasibility study is also underway for a tunnel from Sarai Kale Khan to IGI Airport. – A 20-km link road from Inderlok Metro Station along the Munak Canal to Sonipat has been proposed. Gupta said this new route would relieve traffic from Mukarba Chowk and benefit thousands of daily commuters travelling between Delhi and Haryana. The CM said the NHAI is currently executing road and transport projects worth Rs 35,000 crore across the Capital. This comes in addition to Rs 64,000-crore worth of completed works, covering 1,578 km of roads. Furthermore, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for upcoming projects worth Rs 24,000 crore — spanning 128 km — have been prepared and await rollout. The NHAI has also sanctioned Rs 150 crore for the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Under Bridges (RUBs) to remove bottlenecks near railway crossings. Gupta expressed her gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Minister Gadkari, stating, 'With Rs 1.25 lakh crore worth of decongestion projects in Delhi, the Centre has shown unparalleled commitment to transforming Delhi into a clean, green, and world-class city.' The Chief Minister also highlighted NHAI's eco-friendly practices, such as using inert solid waste and construction debris from Delhi's landfills in road construction.
