Springfield celebrates 417 Day
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Today is 417 Day, a day in southwest Missouri where everything in the 417 area code is celebrated. It lands on this day every year because the abbreviation for April 17th is 4/17.
City organizations like Springfield Public Schools, and the History Museum on the Square are posting online recognizing the day.
Wonders of Wildlife are posting to Facebook saying that tickets for the aquarium have been dropped off at seven different locations around Springfield. These include:
417 Magazine
Route 66 Visitor Center
Springfield Conservation Nature Center
Gillioz Theatre
Mama Jean's Natural Market (Campus Location)
Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park
Fassnight Park
Restaurant and bar Georgia Mac's on East Republic Road are letting customers know happy hour will go from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. Blue Room Comedy Club is getting in the 417 Day spirit by pricing all tickets for shows tonight and this weekend at $4.17.

Springfield-Branson National Airport unveils new history exhibit
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF) and History Museum on the Square teamed up to create a new exhibit that is now on display at the airport. The exhibit, titled 'History of Aviation in the Ozarks,' is now open to the public and can be viewed in the terminal lobby, near the airline ticket counters. Steel, aluminum tariffs expected to impact Springfield consumers SGF says the three-panel display showcases the many stories of the Ozarks' aviation and cultural history. The exhibit features thousands of photos and artifacts reviewed by the History Museum team, such as photos of Harry Truman, pilots in Phelps Grove Park in 1916 and numerous Ozark Airlines milestones. 'Since its opening in 2009, the Springfield-Branson National Airport has served as a destination in itself for the Ozarks,' said Brian Weiler, director of aviation at SGF. 'But while we are a modern airport, there have been decades of aviation history in our region that led the airport to be what it is today. Wonders of Wildlife named America's best aquarium for seventh time
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Johnny Morris' Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium (WOW) has been voted 'America's Best Aquarium' by USA Today voters. According to a WOW press release, this is the seventh time the aquarium has received this recognition. WOW says the contest ranks the top 20 prominent aquariums across North America as part of USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards. Surprise reunion between Springfield teacher and student 50 years later makes national TV
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A retired teacher from Springfield Public Schools was surprised with a reunion on The Jennifer Hudson Show after over 50 years of teaching, where she was reunited with a former student. Throughout many years of education, there is always that one teacher you often remember as making a difference. Sheree Nolley, a now-retired teacher from Springfield Public Schools, was in for a surprise as she was being featured during a segment on The Jennifer Hudson Show, a national talk show in its third season. In a news release sent to 22News from Springfield Public Schools Spokesperson Azell Cavaan, Brightwood Principal Danielle Delgado worked closely with the show's producers to bring the surprise to life. The Jennifer Hudson Show has a tradition called the spirit tunnel, where it hypes up guests before they take the stage. At Brightwood Elementary School in Springfield, Principal Delgado incorporated the spirit tunnel to cheer on students and bring positive energy. Jennifer Hudson hosts Remarkable Women for Hollywood experience Last Thursday, on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Principal Delgado shared a video with the audience thanking Hudson for bringing joy and inspiring the students and staff at the school. In the audience, you can see the camera focus on former teacher Sheree Nolley, as the school in Springfield, Massachusetts, is mentioned. Principal Delgado said that she was inspired by a member of the audience, Sheree Nolley. That's when Sheree was emotionally surprised to be featured on the show. Sheree retired in 2020 after 50 years of teaching. After the coronavirus pandemic, Sheree came back to teach due to the shortage. Sheree's first class she taught was in 1976, she was shown a picture featuring Olga Cordero, her former Kindergarten student. Sheree talked about teaching Olga and receiving a letter from her, over 40 years later. That's when she was told Olga was there on the show for a surprise reunion. In the video segment, Olga shares how Sheree changed her life, turning a language barrier into a superpower. It has had over 16,000 views so far.
