Amaravati, Jul 27 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as part of his five-day visit to Singapore, met the Indian High Commissioner and several investors on Sunday and showcased the state's vast potential.
The CM held talks with Indian High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule, who shared insights into Singapore's achievements in diverse areas, its robust economic growth and the effective public policies being implemented there.
Naidu shared details of the state's newly introduced policies, aimed at attracting investments across various sectors. The state has set an ambitious target of producing 160 gigawatts of green energy, he added.
He informed the High Commissioner that green hydrogen projects have already been launched in Visakhapatnam (in partnership with NTPC) and Kakinada.
Under the India Quantum Mission, Andhra Pradesh is set to establish the country's 'first-ever Quantum Valley' in Amaravati, said Naidu, adding that global tech leader Google is setting up a data center in Visakhapatnam.
Highlighting Andhra's industrial potential, the CM said Rayalaseema is ideal for defence and aerospace units and urged support to make the state a gateway for Singaporean investments.
Ambule informed the CM that on several sectors, the Singaporean companies are exploring investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh, including electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, shipbuilding, port operations, data centers and pharmaceuticals.
According to the release, major Asia-Pacific firms headquartered in Singapore, including STT (ST Telemedia)–which specialises in digital infrastructure and data centers and Keppel Corporation–which operates in infrastructure, energy, and urban development have shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh.
Similarly, Equinix, a global leader in data centers and internet connectivity services and PSA International-a port operating company and logistics firms have shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh.
The meeting also focused on collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, startups, medical device research, and academic partnerships between universities in the southern state and Singapore.
Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh shared plans for expanding higher education institutions while Municipal Minister P Narayana presented state's housing schemes, inspired by Singapore's successful public housing model.
Later, Naidu met the representatives from Surbana Jurong, a global urban infrastructure company who has shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh and invited them to join large-scale housing projects under the state's 'Housing for All' initiative.
The CM explained that the state is focusing on infrastructure development projects and highlighted the development of 20 ports and 15 airports, positioning itself as a logistics hub.
Similarly, Eversendai Engineering, a Malaysia-based construction firm, has shown interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh after its chairman Tan Sri Dato' AK Nathan met Naidu.
They discussed plans to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing factory and integrated training center in the state, with Visakhapatnam or Krishnapatnam shortlisted as possible locations.
The proposed factory, spread over two lakh square meters, will aid nationwide product distribution, boost industrial growth, and create large-scale employment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh's emerging industrial zones, said the release.
Eversendai also expressed interest in Amaravati's infrastructure projects and proposed a structural engineering training center with IIT Tirupati and IIIT Sri City as knowledge partners. PTI MS GDK KH

We should see whether a student is getting good marks in an exam and not focus on whether his pencil was broken or pen was lost,' Rajnath said, in a dig at questions by the Opposition regarding losses to the Indian Air Force, amid applause from ruling party MPs. 'The Opposition asks about planes shot down. Their question does not represent India's sentiments. They have not yet asked how many Pak planes were shot down. They should ask: did India destroy terror bases? Yes. Was Operation Sindoor successful? Yes. Were the masters of terrorists who wiped off Sindoor from the foreheads of our sisters destroyed? Yes. Did our soldiers face any losses? No,' Rajnath said, listing out the questions he felt the Opposition should have asked. 'Focus on big things, not comparatively small ones; else we lose focus on big issues and the honour of soldiers.' He added, 'We asked in 1962 why another country captured part of our territory. We asked why we lost. We did not ask how many machine guns were damaged. We asked about territory, not equipment. In 1971, Atal Bihari Vajpayee praised the leadership of that time. 'Aim not to capture land, but destroy terror nurseries' Rajnath explained the ceasefire after four days of hostility, saying, 'Operation Sindoor was halted because we had fulfilled our objectives. To say it was done under any pressure is wrong. The aim was not to capture territory but to destroy their terror nurseries. The aim was not to go to war… Pakistan accepted defeat and requested that hostilities be stopped… We accepted with a caveat. If Pakistan attempts any misadventure, we will again begin this operation.' The defence minister said India had always wanted peace with neighbours, as it is part of the civilisational values of the country. He recalled Vajpayee's attempts at peace, and then the Kargil War when Pakistan did not understand the language of peace. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also started with attempts at peace and also visited Nawaz Sharif, but since Pakistan did not understand the language of peace, India undertook a surgical strike in 2016, an air strike in 2019, and Operation Sindoor in 2025. Rajnath expressed disappointment that the UPA government did not do any such thing after the Mumbai terror attack of 2008. Under the Modi government, he added, 'two-day dossiers have been replaced by decisive actions.' He likened the policy of the Modi government to the strategy of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. 'We haven't occupied any territory. We also know that one should fight only equals. Lions should not kill frogs – the message it sends is not good. Our army is a lion. Blood and talks do not go together,' Rajnath added, reiterating what PM Modi had said after the ceasefire. 'Pak-sponsored terrorism is not random madness; there is a method in this madness. It is a toolkit against every civilised code of conduct. Our fight against Pakistan is the contest between civilisation and barbarity.' He recalled that PM Modi got the world to condemn the Pahalgam terror attack, adding that he (Rajnath) refused to sign a joint statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet that sought to dilute India's position on terror. Rajnath rued that the UPA government could not make the Mumbai terror attack a global issue, and also decided not to launch an attack on Pakistan's terror havens after it. Underlining that multi-party delegations sent across the world after Operation Sindoor did great work, Rajnath said, 'During the operation, all political parties cooperated with the government, and we thank them.' Samsung DeX revamped with Android 16 desktop mode in One UI 8 for a true PC like experience
Samsung is quietly reshaping the way we think about mobile computing. DeX, its long standing desktop mode, is undergoing its boldest transformation yet. Samsung DeX first launched in 2017 alongside the Galaxy S8 series. It was designed to turn smartphones into desktop style workstations. Now connecting a phone to an external display, users could switch into a more PC style interface complete with windowed apps, a taskbar and mouse support. Over the years, Samsung expanded DeX with features like taskbar controls, app pinning, keyboard customisation, and advanced window management. But with One UI 8, things are changing in a big way. At Google I/O, it was confirmed that Android will officially support desktop mode starting with Android 16. This is not an extra layer or workaround but a feature now being built directly into the operating system. Samsung's own DeX platform plays a key role in that shift, having helped lay the groundwork. The native desktop mode is already live in Android 16's beta, though it is still early and rough in places. Samsung is building on that foundation to deliver a redesigned DeX experience, making its debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Today, the desktop experience is no longer a standalone experience layered entirely on Samsung's terms. With Android 16 bringing a built-in desktop mode, Samsung is now aligning its own platform with Google's system level approach. That means a more unified interface across Android devices and better long term compatibility for users. But it also means letting go of some of the long standing DeX features. In One UI 8, the DeX settings have been reworked. The old DeX is now called a "Connected Display." Options like showing or hiding the taskbar, moving the keyboard, and choosing audio output are gone. The 'Exit DeX' and 'Lock DeX' buttons have also been removed. The app drawer now scrolls up and down instead of sideways, and some advanced shortcuts are no longer available. While these changes in DeX may seem like a step backward, especially for those who use it regularly, they are part of a broader shift. Android 16 introduces a native desktop mode with support for freeform windows, a persistent taskbar, and improved external display handling. Rather than continuing to build DeX as a separate layer, Samsung is now working alongside Google, using this new foundation to shape what DeX will become. The goal here is not to take away familiar features, but to create an experience that is more consistent and easier to support other devices. In the current One UI 8 Beta, DeX still holds onto its core, and that's what matters most. You can still wirelessly connect to displays, use your smartphone as a touchpad and work with an S pen. It still does the job, but now it does it with better stability and a smoother flow. DeX is starting to feel more like a desktop. Apps open and resize more smoothly, and the whole setup looks and works less like a phone stretched onto a bigger screen. Some older settings are missing, which regular users might notice. But Samsung is now building DeX on Android 16's desktop mode. This is not the end of DeX as we know it. It's the start of DeX as it was always meant to be.
