GreenLine partners with Shriram Finance to scale up green logistics
The deployment is supported by Shriram Finance Limited, one of India's largest NBFCs and the flagship company of the Shriram Group.
GreenLine continues to lead India's low-carbon logistics transformation. Its current fleet of over 650 LNG trucks serves marquee companies across sectors such as FMCG and e-commerce, metals and mining, cement, oil and gas, and chemicals. The fleet has already covered more than 40 million kilometres, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 10,000 tonnes.
The company plans to deploy over 10,000 LNG and EV trucks, supported by a nationwide network of 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging stations, and battery swapping facilities. This comprehensive initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.
This partnership marks a significant step in GreenLine's ongoing mission to decarbonise India's transportation sector, which contributes nearly 15% of the country's total carbon emissions. With over 4 million trucks currently in operation—and the number continuing to grow—India's road logistics sector remains one of its most carbon-intensive industries.
Aligned with the government's ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, GreenLine is committed to transitioning the heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) fleet to LNG and EV trucks to promote cleaner, more sustainable transport. With Shriram Finance's backing, the deployment of these vehicles is faster and more efficient, making green logistics more financially accessible for businesses across the country.
Anand Mimani, CEO, GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., said: "This fleet expansion, supported by Shriram Finance, is a key step towards transforming India's logistics with sustainable, high-performance solutions. The trucks, manufactured by Blue Energy Motors (BEM), play a critical role in decarbonising the logistics sector and align with our vision for a greener future. With growing investments in LNG and other alternative fuels, we are seeing tangible progress towards reducing India's carbon footprint.'
Sharvari Prabhu, CFO, GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., added: "As we scale our LNG fleet, the role of strategic financial support becomes increasingly critical. Shriram Finance's involvement helps us offer viable green alternatives to conventional trucking while supporting India's broader decarbonisation goals."
G. M. Jilani, Joint Managing Director, Shriram Finance Limited, commented: 'We congratulate Greenline Mobility Solutions on the expansion of their green fleet with the addition of LNG-powered trucks which reinforces their unwavering commitment to sustainable logistics. At Shriram Finance, we're proud to support this forward-looking initiative, which aligns with our commitment to responsible financing and environmental stewardship. This partnership marks a significant milestone as our first investment in cleaner fuel technology, showcases our commitment to expand our green financing beyond electric mobility, and underscores our resolve to drive meaningful change across the transportation ecosystem. We remain dedicated to driving positive change, accelerate sustainable initiatives and supporting environmentally responsible growth across the transportation sector.'
GreenLine's LNG-powered trucks are manufactured by Blue Energy Motors (BEM). BEM is a leading manufacturer of LNG-powered trucks, delivering innovative solutions for the logistics industry. Their cutting-edge technology is designed to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability in India's transport sector.

EVs still seen as second or third cars, says Maruti Suzuki; plans 100-city charging network to drive adoption
Even though the share of electric vehicles in overall car sales has inched up in the last six months, customers are opting for them largely as second or third vehicles limiting widespread adoption in the local market, a top executive at the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki said. Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, 'The share of electric cars in total sales of passenger vehicles increased to 4.5% (in July) from about 2.5% last year. But the base is still small. Customers are mostly buying EVs as second or third cars, not as the first one. It is a chicken and egg situation, till the time adequate public charging network is in place, customers are unlikely to use electric cars as a primary vehicle.' Low utilisation of public charging stations, on the other hand, make it difficult for operators to invest in further expansion. EV calculator How much will I save if I choose an electric vehicle? SELECT vehicle type Calculate Maruti Suzuki is working on setting up a network of charging stations across top 100 cities in the country to ease customer anxiety. 'Most car companies today are driving in EVs which have range of about 500 km. What we have noticed is also, most electric car owners prefer to charge their EVs at home. However, they do want access to public charging stations as an assurance that they will not get stranded on the road in the event the battery gets depleted. Equally important for adoption is the time required for charging a vehicle at these stations, and that these are in working conditions', Banerjee said. While Maruti Suzuki is focusing on setting up charging networks to smoother intra-city commute for customers, Korean rival Hyundai has announced plans to beef up the number of charging stations on major highways to make hassle-free inter-city travel for EV owners. Hyundai also plans to set up 600 DC fast-chargers across the country by 2032, Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer at HMIL told ET recently, adding that 89 of these are already operational along major highways including Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru-Chennai. There are about 26,000 charging stations available across the country, as per data available with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). EV sales in calendar year 2024 were 99,165, according to data collated by the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations. Penetration of EV 4Ws in total car sales stood at 2.4% in this period. Overall, Maruti Suzuki has planned for launch four electric vehicles by the turn of the decade, starting with the e Vitara in FY26. The company expects EV sales to increase to account for about 15% of its sales by 2030.
