Mark Chapman will present the opening Match of the Day programme of the new Premier League campaign.
Following Gary Lineker's departure, the 51-year-old will alternate hosting responsibilities with Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates throughout this season.
The BBC's flagship football show will feature a new permanent presenter for the first time since 1999 after former England forward Lineker stood down, ending all ties with the corporation from last season's conclusion following controversy over an antisemitism-related social media post.
Lineker's departure was revealed in November last year, with confirmation arriving in January that former MOTD 2 presenter Chapman, established broadcaster Logan and ex-Sky Sports star Cates would share the presenting duties. Chapman will begin his tenure on Saturday, and we examine his life beyond television, including his footballing allegiances and salary details.
Mark Chapman's Gary Lineker quip
Whilst Saturday marks Chapman's debut as permanent presenter, according to PA, with colleague Logan handling the Sunday programme, he is well-versed in fronting MOTD, reports the Mirror.
Chapman's MOTD 2 responsibilities frequently involved presenting the midweek programmes, and a January appearance saw him deliver a humorous remark during the period of Lineker's exit announcement.

The 51-year-old began the show alongside Micah Richards and Alan Shearer with a clever reference to his forthcoming position, stating: "Evening, thought I'd get the practice in..."
His co-stars couldn't help but chuckle at the admission, with Shearer exclaiming: "You haven't wasted any time, have you? Six months too early!" Chapman retorted: "It's going to be a long night, eh?"
What football club does Mark Chapman support?
Former presenter Lineker made no secret of his devotion to childhood team Leicester City, where he launched his playing career. He turned out more than 200 times for the Foxes between 1978 and 1985.
Chapman, who isn't a former professional, having begun his BBC journey in 1996 as a community announcer, also holds allegiance to a major English club in Manchester United.

Hailing from Rochdale, Chapman revealed to the iPaper in 2018: "It's not my fault that I support a big team! I had to put up with a lot of poor, if at least entertaining, stuff in the 1980s. I am a genuine Manchester United fan."
Following the Red Devils' challenging 15th-placed Premier League campaign last season, featuring some woeful performances, Chapman revealed during a 2025 Catchphrase appearance: "By the time we go on air, I've had enough time to stop being a sore loser. So by then I'm fairly impartial."
How much does Mark Chapman earn?
Lineker was famous for being amongst the BBC's most handsomely remunerated employees throughout his tenure with the broadcaster. Reports suggested he earned approximately £1.35million last year prior to his departure.

Colleague Shearer was also a top earner last year with a reported salary of £440,000, though Chapman earns considerably less than the two former England strikers.
Throughout the 2021/22 season, Chapman earned roughly £250k, and this salary was subsequently boosted the following campaign to around £325k.

During the 2023/24 season, Chapman took home somewhere in the region of £260k for his coverage on Radio 5 Live, MOTD 2, the Challenge Cup, the Euros and Olympic Games.

Ruben Amorim drops hint over goalkeeper signing and explains Andre Onana drama
Ruben Amorim is happy with his three goalkeepers, insisting he did not drop Andre Onana for Manchester United's Premier League opener against Arsenal. Altay Bayindir was named in the starting XI at Old Trafford on Sunday and was at fault after just 13 minutes, failing to deal with Declan Rice's corner with Riccardo Calafiori converting from close range. While United turned in a much-improved display with new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo impressing on their competitive debuts, that early goal was the difference with Arsenal leaving Manchester with all three points. Onana missed United's entire pre-season campaign after suffering a hamstring injury just two days after returning to training. The Cameroon international was fit and available for Sunday's league opener with Amorim opting to keep faith in Bayindir who featured throughout the pre-season campaign. Onana was not named in the matchday squad but Amorim was adamant it was not a case of the player being dropped, more so deciding he was not match fit after his recent layoff. 'I didn't drop Onana from the squad. I didn't drop one of the other two from the squad,' Amorim told a post-match press conference. 'It is not putting Andre Onana with just one week, without seeing a game, without time training.' United have been strongly linked with signing another goalkeeper with Gianluigi Donnaumma, available having been told he has no future at Paris Saint-Germain. Pushed on whether he is happy with his options in goal with 39-year-old Tom Heaton also in the squad, Amorim insisted he was content with what he has. 'We prove today that we can win any game in the Premier League especially against team like Arsenal. I'm happy with the players. I'm happy with the three goalkeepers.' More Trending Former United skipper Roy Keane was predictably damning in his assessment if Bayindir's performance. 'That's his area. He has to come with violence, he's got to be aggressive,' Keane told Sky Sports. 'He's got to say to players, 'Yeah, come here, I'm happy to deal with it.' You've got to be aggressive; it's just not strong enough. 'He's appealing to the referee. Don't be appealing to the referee. He's on his heels; it's far too easy. It's schoolboy stuff.' Gary Neville urges Manchester United to sign £40m star after Arsenal defeat
Gary Neville has named two goalkeepers Manchester United should try to sign before the transfer deadline after the club's opening-day defeat to Arsenal. A mistake from United back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir cost Ruben Amorim's side dearly at Old Trafford on Sunday as Arsenal clinched a narrow 1-0 win. Bayindir – picked ahead of Andre Onana, who struggled last season – failed to deal with Declan Rice's corner, allowing Riccardo Calafiori to head home from on the line. It was largely improved performance from Manchester United against an Arsenal team expected to challenge for the title for the fourth season in a row. Speaking after the defeat, Neville said it was imperative for his former club to bring in a new goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closes. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. As for who Amorim should target, Neville named Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma as two goalkeepers he would welcome at Old Trafford. Manchester United were linked with World Cup winner Martinez earlier in the summer and Aston Villa reportedly placed a £40m asking price on his head. Donnarumma, meanwhile, is searching for a new club after being banished by PSG manager Luis Enrique despite his incredible form last season. The Italian is open to a move to the Premier League but United have briefed that they are not currently pursuing a deal. Amorim was thought to have full faith in Onana but then dropped his No. 1 for the opening game of the season, perhaps hinting a move for a new goalkeeper was imminent. 'There's a glaring issue for Manchester United that can't be ignored and that is that they do need to find a goalkeeper,' Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast. 'They have to. 'I'm absolutely unequivocal on that. I had an experience at United for 20 years where we had big spells with [Peter] Schmeichel and [Edwin] van der Saw and in-between we had seven or eight other goalkeepers. 'It's really unsettling when you don't have a really dominant No. 1. You need someone to own their six-yard box, to make a lot of saves, to come and punch everything and save you points when your defenders make mistakes. 'That needs to be sorted either with a permanent signing or a loan. The two that you look at that have been mentioned in the last few weeks are Martinez and Donnarumma. 'The reason I say those two would be good for United is not necessarily because they're the two best goalkeepers in Europe, but they've got big personalities and characters. 'You've seen Donnarumma in a Euros final saving those penalties, he looked like a giant, and you've seen him play for PSG in huge games under pressure. More Trending 'We've seen Martinez play in World Cup finals. They've played under extreme pressure and they can handle it. Man United need that. 'I think they need to sort the goalkeeper out because they will keep conceding goals and points and it undermines what you're doing. 'I've said it for years, you need personality, character and stability in that position. I think United need to deal with it in the next couple of weeks.' Unless he signs a new goalkeeper, Amorim faces a big decision over who to pick next week for the trip to Fulham. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Man United can beat anybody says Amorim after promising signs in defeat
MANCHESTER, England, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Manchester United lost to Arsenal in their opener on Sunday but Ruben Amorim remained full of optimism and said his rebuilt team can now beat anybody in the Premier League as the club try to put last season's woeful 15th-place finish behind them. Riccardo Calafiori headed home from an early corner to give Arsenal a 1-0 win, with a weak challenge from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir one of United's few mistakes on an afternoon that sent their fans home from Old Trafford feeling positive. "We have players to win any game in the Premier League," said Amorim, flashing a rare smile after the scowl he wore for most of last season. "We were more aggressive than last year. We went one against one all the game and we pressed high. We had quality with the ball." Close-season signings Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo injected pace and creativity into United's attack, with the ex-Wolves man, who had three shots on target, arguably the best player on the pitch. "We did a lot things right," Amorim said. "We were more aggressive and brave. In certain moments I think Bryan and Cunha helped a lot. We stuck to the plan even when the stadium was nervous, we continued to play the way we played and that will help us in the future. "(The fans) want that feeling again. We go to Old Trafford and we are not going to get bored. We need to win more than last season but they want to see something and feel something." United also looked more composed defensively than last term, but the error from their Turkish keeper begged the question about that position in Amorim's team. Arsenal's William Saliba backed into Bayindir, who feebly batted the ball with one hand into the path of Italian Calafiori for an easy close-range header. Amorim said United needed to match Arsenal's physicality on the corner. "If you can watch the goal, I think (players) are allowed to do a lot of things in the corners. We need to do the same," he said. "But when you touch that way the goalkeeper, he needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not to push players, or he chooses to push players and let the ball past. "But again, (it) is the rules. If he's allowed, we need to do the same thing." Bayindir was selected ahead of usual starter Andre Onana, who has had only three training sessions after recovering from injury. Onana made mistakes himself last season but Amorim shrugged off questions about any changes in that position.
