A. Tishant murder: Father facing charges following probe
Tishant was found dead and buried in a shallow grave in Jempol on July 28, four days after he was reported missing in Bukit Indah.
His 36-year-old father is the main suspect in the murder investigation.
Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the suspect's wife lodged a report against him on July 22.
She alleged that she was assaulted and that he had taken off with their only child.
He was initially investigated for allegedly assaulting his wife under Sections 323 and 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means.
The man was also investigated under Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 for allegedly abusing her.
However, the domestic abuse case took a dramatic turn midway through the interrogation when he claimed his son was missing.
Kumar said the suspect was asked to lodge a police report, but during questioning, inconsistencies in his statement raised red flags.
"His version of events leading to his son's disappearance was vague and contradictory.
"He was then arrested.
"Further interrogation revealed the truth behind the boy's disappearance.
"Investigation led to the discovery of Tishant's remains in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, after which the suspect was transferred to the district for investigation under Section 302," Kumar said at a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters today.
Kumar said the suspect faces charges for lodging a false report, child negligence and domestic abuse, but prosecution will only proceed once Negri Sembilan police conclude their murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a post-mortem confirmed that Tishant died from strangulation using a cable tie.
His body was found at 4.30pm on July 28 in Rompin, following the boy's father's arrest in Johor.

Tishant was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri, on July 24. His body was found four days later, after his father's arrest. An autopsy revealed the boy was strangled with a cable tie. Kumar said police first received a report from the suspect's wife on July 22, alleging domestic abuse and that the man had taken their only child away. He said the suspect was arrested but later released on police bail. He then filed a report claiming he had left his son alone in the car and returned to discover that the boy was missing. However, inconsistencies in his statement led to his re-arrest and, after further questioning, the child's body was discovered.

Five foreigners nabbed for allegedly robbing 'hypnotised' tourists in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested five Middle Eastern nationals in its investigation into the theft of money from several foreign tourists who were allegedly hypnotised (pukau) in the city centre here. Penang acting police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said three men and two women, including a married couple, all aged from 19 to 35, were detained at the Gurney Plaza area under Ops Tourist. "Between July 30 and Aug 1, we received three reports of cash thefts involving tourists from Taiwan, the Netherlands and Syria, aged from 29 to 52, in the Pulau Tikus and Jalan Penang areas. "A team from the Timur Laut criminal investigation division as well as the Pulau Tikus and Central police stations conducted an operation and detained the five Middle Eastern suspects," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 3). He added that police also seized multiple foreign currencies, two vehicles, and a packet of ganja. Mohd Alwi said preliminary urine tests revealed that two of the suspects tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). He said the group's modus operandi was to approach foreign tourists for a conversation before asking them to reveal the cash in their possession. "The suspects will then take the money and leave the scene. It is reported that victims only realise their money is gone after the suspects leave," he said. He said all the suspects have been remanded for four days until Aug 6 and the case is being investigated under sections 379 and 380 of the Penal Code and sections 6 and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Alwi said they are committed to ensuring the safety of locals and tourists, and advised the public to be vigilant when dealing with unknown individuals, as well as to safeguard their valuables at all times.
