Yahoo11-04-2025

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Savannah Bananas and Party Animals officially have additional competition as the Banana Ball League announced two new teams.
The first new squad aiming to take control of the league is The Firefighters! The team made its official debut on May 30, 2024, and has played 14 games to date.
I spoke with catcher Joe Lytle, who had this to say about playing for the Firefighters…
'I just think it's so special because we get to represent something so much bigger than ourselves and entertain people. I just think it is awesome how much this has grown and allows us to interact with fans. Honestly representing the Firefighters really means something special. I got a bunch of firefighter friends and family so it is really cool.'
Lytle is originally from Yukon, Oklahoma and played college ball at Oklahoma City University.

The second team stepping into the Banana Ball arena is the newly formed Texas Tailgaters. WSAV spoke with Tailgaters catcher Taylor Justus on what we can expect from the Tailgaters this season…
'I think you got a little sneak peek of it. We're gonna bring some energy. I think we got some guys who are fired up to be here. They are really taking this opportunity with a lot of gratitude and I think we are gonna have a really special energy to this team.'
Justus was born in Thousand Oaks, California. He attended San Jose State and Biola University where he was a catcher. The Tailgaters will host home games at Rider Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Urban Meyer unable to properly count Georgia's number of home games

Urban Meyer unable to properly count Georgia's number of home games Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer discussed the Georgia Bulldogs' prospects for the 2025 college football season on "The Triple Option" podcast. The podcast features Meyer, former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram and fellow FOX college football analyst Rob Stone. Meyer emphasized the importance of scheduling and how it impacts a team's success. "I am sitting here looking at Georgia's schedule. They are playing nine, this is an SEC schedule man, nine games at home," said Meyer. There's no doubt that Georgia scheduled a soft nonconference schedule in 2025. "Marshall, Austin Peay and Charlotte and they've got nine. Count them. Nine home games," added Meyer. "Come on Kirby (Smart) what in the world was that." Meyer fails to mention that Georgia plays Georgia Tech, as usual, in nonconference play. Well, we counted. We have a copy of Georgia's schedule and can clearly see that the Bulldogs play seven home games, which is very common in this era of college. Georgia does play a pair of neutral site games against Florida and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs only have three true road games, so that's what Meyer is trying to get at. It is a little embarrassing that Meyer, who obviously coached at Florida, did not realize that the Georgia-Florida game is played a neutral site on UGA's schedule. We also can see Ohio State's schedule from their 2024 national championship season, where the Buckeyes did actually play nine home games (includes one home game in the College Football Playoff). The Buckeyes played a three-game regular season nonconference slate of Akron, Western Kentucky and Marshall and had eight regular season games at home, which is a lot. As for Florida, the Gators had a challenging 2024 schedule that still featured seven home games. The Gators have six home games in 2025 while Ohio State had seven home games in 2025, which is the same amount as Georgia. Despite a weak nonconference schedule, Georgia's schedule is by no means easy. The Bulldogs play Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss at home and have road games against Auburn and Tennessee. Neutral site contests against Florida and Georgia Tech present significant challenges as well. Georgia football's 2025 schedule Follow UGAWire on Instagram!

Ryan Lochte and Kayla Lochte announce divorce after 7 years of marriage

Olympian Ryan Lochte and his wife, realtor Kayla Lochte, are parting ways after seven years of marriage. Kayla Lochte shared the personal update in an Instagram post Wednesday. "Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection," she wrote in a statement. "I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing -- not from fresh, open wounds." The former couple were engaged in 2016 and tied the knot in January 2018. They share three children, Caiden, 7, Liv, 4, and Georgia, 1. "Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future," Kayla Lochte continued in her lengthy statement. "I've come to understand that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love -- for those around me and for myself." Ryan Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist swimmer, also shared a message on his Instagram page, confirming the couple's separation. "I want to take a moment to acknowledge what Kayla shared. This past year has brought major changes for both of us as we've come to the difficult decision to end our marriage," the 40-year-old wrote. "I'm deeply grateful for the life we've built together and especially for the love we share for our three children." He added that he felt their mutual decision was "the right step toward peace and well-being" for both of them. "I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately," Ryan Lochte added. "Thank you to our family and friends for your continued support -- it truly means a lot as we begin this new chapter."

Ex-England international relishes seeing better representation for young girls in football

By Laura Howard, Sportsbeat Former England international Carly Telford loves hearing young girls talk about female role models in football having grown-up with only men visible at elite level in sport. Telford, from County Durham, achieved 27 caps in an England shirt and appeared in three FA Cup finals with Leeds United, Chelsea and Notts County. Advertisement She lacked visible representation during her youth but since taking on her post-playing role working at Chelsea Women as a Commercial Manager, she can see new opportunities for young girls. 'I basically didn't have any female role models until I was a lot older,' she said. 'If I was asked that question as a youngster, I would have said David Beckham or David Ginola. 'I was in a school last week, and we were doing the trophy tour for the FA Cup. I sat down next to a group of girls, and I said, 'Oh, who are your role models?' and they said Sam Kerr, Millie Bright, Lauren James and that is just so normal for them. Advertisement 'To see them writing their names down, wishing them good luck, it's just so inspiring for them to be like, I see myself in her, or I want to be like her one day.' A study by Sure in 2024 found that 58% of girls say that having a female role model strengthens their passion for football. Telford, who was part of a panel discussing the issue at Stamford Bridge this week, has been able to become the role model for others that she never had, spending eight years at WSL heavyweights Chelsea during her career. 'It's mad. I sometimes forget it, until someone's like, 'Can you sign my T-shirt? Can you sign my boot?','' she said. Advertisement 'It's almost like a responsibility as well in the best kind of way. I didn't want to be a footballer for any other reason, I just loved it. I genuinely do. If you ask most of the girls who play the game, it's all for the love of it. 'The responsibility that comes with that is to always turn up as who you are, because there's always going to be a young girl, a group of girls that will be like, 'Oh, I sound like her, I look like her, I play the position she does.' 'Not all of us have a smooth journey. Just because when you get to the top, it looks like it's all great, and Instagram and TikTok can make it look all fun, actually it's a difficult role. 'There's a lot of rejection, sometimes confidence is low, you're not selected. There's a lot of things that you have to deal with but that also helps you prepare for life outside.' Advertisement For Telford, that authenticity is key in allowing girls to connect with players and create role models who speak to wider aspects of life beyond elite football. 'Role models should allow girls to aspire to be Lionesses and want to be the best of the best, but also empower them to feel confident, to feel like they can do it, and that gives them life skills in the longer term as well,' she added. Visibility plays a vital role in inspiring young girls in sports, but it alone isn't enough. Increased visibility needs to be paired with real world grassroots investment – like Sure's Breaking Limits Programme – find out more here
