Angry fans attacked Sevilla's facility after a loss in May. Police are now making arrests

SEVILLE, Spain (AP) — Four people have been arrested for their alleged roles in a May 10 attack on Sevilla's training facilities following the soccer team's loss to Celta Vigo. The players stayed overnight at the complex because of security concerns created by a large group of fans who forced their way into the Jose Ramon Cisneros Palacios training ground. Supporters, many of whom concealed their faces, broke down a metallic gate at an entrance for cars into the training grounds and caused damage inside the property. The club had condemned what it called 'organized vandalism.' Sevilla, which barely avoided relegation last season, had lost 3-2 at Vigo and the violence kicked off after the team bus arrived at the grounds. Spanish sports daily Marca reported Friday that the National Police made four arrests and that the investigation was ongoing. There was no other information about identities, charges, or court dates. Conway's first test century in over 2 years boosts New Zealand's lead over Zimbabwe

BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe (AP) — Devon Conway overcame his patchy form in test cricket with his first hundred in over two years as New Zealand eyed an imposing lead against Zimbabwe in the second test on Friday. Conway moved to a flawless 140 not out and Henry Nicholls was unbeaten on 41 at lunch on Day 2 with New Zealand cruising along to 306-2 for an overall lead of 181 runs. Zimbabwe tried six bowlers in the session but only Vincent Masekesa (1-45) got success when the leg-spinner dismissed nightwatcher Jacob Duffy for 36. Resuming on 174-1 with a 49-run lead, New Zealand had another productive session of 132-1 as Conway led the charge with his fifth test century. He showed plenty of aggression against the fast bowlers and smashed Tanaka Chivanga through point boundary off the first ball of the day. Conway then reached his century off 143 balls when he drove Blessing Muzarabani through mid-off for his 13th boundary of the innings, raising both arms to celebrate his much-awaited hundred in the longest format. Conway's last test hundred came against Pakistan at Karachi in Jan. 2023. Since then the left-hander had played 16 test matches without a century. Zimbabwe resorted to its spinners in the latter half of the first session in order to keep the fast bowlers fresh for the second new ball but only Masekesa could bring the home team success. Masekesa struck off his second ball but not before debutant Duffy had frustrated Zimbabwe by raising a 73-run stand with Conway. Brian Bennett held onto a spectacular catch to his right at short mid-wicket as Duffy tried to pull the short delivery. Zimbabwe lost the first test by nine wickets inside three days and its batting order once again crumbled for 125 on Day 1 against a new crop of New Zealand fast bowlers with Matt Henry and debutant Zakary Foulkes sharing nine wickets between them. The two-match series is not part of the World Test Championship. ___ AP cricket:

Bronze statue of Tom Brady to be unveiled before Patriots' exhibition opener

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady left his imprint all over the New England Patriots' record books during his stellar two-decade run with the team. Now, he is set to become the first player in franchise history to be honored with a statue. During a star-studded Patriots Hall of Fame induction last June, at which Brady's No. 12 was also retired by the team, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced a 12-foot bronze likeness of the quarterback was being commissioned from a local sculptor 'to perpetuate the legendary legacy of the great Tom Brady.' What Kraft promised would be a 'larger than life' ode to Brady will be unveiled on Friday prior to New England's exhibition game against the Washington Commanders. Brady will be on hand for the ceremony, which is scheduled to include remarks by Kraft and an address by Brady to fans, who are being allowed into the plaza in front of Gillette Stadium four hours before the game to accommodate what is expected to be a large crowd. It will be just the latest salute to the player whose jersey still dots the stands at Gillette Stadium five-plus years after he played his final game for New England in 2019. Drafted 199th overall in 2000, Brady rose to become the face of the Patriots dynasty as he led the team to six Super Bowl titles and 17 division championships in 18 seasons as a starter. He would go on to win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. ___ AP NFL:
